  • Broken and Useless
Received my refurbished, certified Dell XPS 15 9500 yesterday. The packaging was underwhelming to say the least---the components were simply tossed in a cardboard box and overpack with only the most minor attempt to protect them. It was about half-charged and booted up quickly and silently. I worked through the initial Windows setup and was just beginning to update drivers when it rebooted without warning. I figured it might be part of a driver installation but then it happened again. I let it sit this time, doing nothing. It rebooted all by itself, never allowing more than 5 minutes between reboots. Contacting Dell proved useless. They claimed no knowledge of it and walked me through the hardware test outside of Windows---all passed. They then tried to get me to reinstall Windows on it. Fortunately, I looked up the issue in the meantime. Unchecking the box triggering automatic reboot upon failure revealed that the screen was freezing. This seems to be an issue with the two graphics cards. I followed the recommended fix to turn off panel refresh and other power-saving features for the Intel graphics controller, but it still froze up. By this point, I had invested 4 hours in debugging a brand-new, certified machine and realized I had the service tag memorized. I had ordered a new adapter so that I could get the Dell image off of my backup drive---which I had sacrificed to do this. I was preparing to spend another couple of hours setting up the machine all over again, despite the testimony of other customers who had done this to no avail. Then I looked at the date on these complaints---many going back to June. Dell's known about this issue for at least six months and done NOTHING to fix it. That was it. Back in the box, return processed through Amazon, and I will never attempt to buy a Dell computer or a computer through Amazon again. I'll go to a physical store next time and make them demonstrate it for me. The build quality is utter crap, the tech support is dishonest, and the whole process is a colossal waste of time and money. Should Amazon try to charge me anything for the "experience", I will be back here and all over social media slamming them. Quit selling fraudulent crap. Anyone who had actually spent 5 minutes testing this machine would have found this issue---they never bothered. ... show more

  • Laptop performance great, Camera performance poor
Performance on the laptop is great. I bought two and I have the same issue with the camera. I had a session with Dell, who don't seem to be able to resolve at the moment. I suspect that a firmware fix would resolve evenutally.

  • My mistake, and not meeting expectation
1. I was not aware that I was buying a used laptop 2. I refrain from using second hand electronic goods due to security reasons 3. The laptop was to gift to my wife, used laptop is not fit to gift 4. There were couple of searches on the external hinge part 5. Touch pad sensitivity found not perfect.

  • Dell-ightful? No.
Bought this for my wife for Christmas. Out of the box, the charger did not charge the laptop, so we had to open a case with Dell to get a new charger sent to us. After answering the 100 questions on their support call script, a new charger arrived. It worked for about 2 weeks until the laptop ceased recognizing electricity. We tried different chargers, different batteries, nothing. Electricity was not making it to any part of the laptop. Multiple calls with Dell, finally they decided they needed to send someone to the house to fix it. Great! Except they sent that person to a location 250 miles away. Back on the phone with Dell, this time they got the location right. He came, nice guy, couldn't fix it. Baffled. Said we needed to wait for Dell to send us a box so we could mail it off to the depot. We are still waiting on the box. Best Christmas gift ever? So, we once again wait.. this stunningly expensive paperweight awaits it's resurrection via cardboard box, presuming it comes here and not 250 miles away. We're still within the 3-5 day expectation window, so we'll have to see if the aim is better this time. ... show more

  • Great computer - Great response from seller.
I purchased this computer from Technology 39 / Amazon through a business account for our church. the computer arrived quickly, in great working order - no blemishes visible and looked brand new. The only issue was that the computer came loaded with Windows 10 HOME despite the description listing Win 10 PRO. I contacted Technology 39, and they quickly and happily resolved the issue with a product key upgrade. Computer is a bit heavy compared to what I usually use, but it so far appears to be powerful and will take over video production / streaming of our worship services. ... show more
