  • Trackpad and touch keys are difficult to use, no physical power button
I have been a Dell loyalist for decades but I have a few complaints with this one. Trackpad is not countersunk, meaning it's totally flush with the palmrest. it looks nice, but you can't tell where the trackpad begins and ends, which actually makes it obnoxious to use. Clicking the touchpad while dragging is difficult to get right, which is is frustrating when you're running a meeting in a conference room and presenting with dual screens and attempting to drag a window from one screen to the other. Right-clicking is equally annoying. Seems like aesthetics won over functionality here. Also, pinch to zoom is finicky on this particular trackpad, and only works part of the time. It seems to work a bit better if you only use vertical swipes for pinch to zoom, but previous generations of touchpads (the countersunk ones) were a lot smoother. I'm hoping it's just bad drivers and will eventually improve. The touch keys at the top are annoying because I actually use Home, End, and Delete, all the time while typing. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the physical keys. Lastly, there is no physical power button, the laptop boots when you open it from closed. Occasionally it doesn't boot and needs to be opened and closed again. Minor annoyance, but I'm old school and I like to be able to manually force a shutdown if needed for some reason. Battery life is not great, but that's to be expected with a machine that has this much power. They recommend a higher wattage charger, but it does work and charge with a standard charger, it just charges slower and gives an error message. Overall design and build quality are good though, as per usual with Dell. Since it's a work machine I don't mind living with my admittedly niche complaints, because it spends 90% of its time connected to a dock anyway, but I would return it if I had bought it personally. ... show more
