  • Price Worth The Functionality
RAM Size: 4 GB
After reading some of the reviews on this product i decided to give it at try since I mainly use laptops for small task such as Docs. I've had this for about a week now and see no real problems with it. There is slight delay on things loading or when you start typing i did get a concerned at first when i had to do an update for the computer. After the update and restarting the computer the home screen was completely black but i could move the cursor around and see it moving. So I restarted the comp again and it came on perfectly fine. I did put my itunes library on here instead of using the program grove music. A delay in loading the album art and playing music at first but now works like a charm. All in all if your not really a having gamer and just perform minor task I'd say get this. ... show more

  • Don't you DARE hit that purchase button!
RAM Size: 4 GB
This thing is junk, plain and simple. It's slow, it's laggy, it's more buggy than our basement on a wet winter day. It needed a software update as soon as it was removed from the box, which was...how should I put it...AN ACT OF GOD!! It doesn't even have enough pre-loaded space to do a basic software update to run the stinkin thing. And it still doesn't work right. My son only wants two......wanna make sure you got that.....TWO basic, simple games on this computer, and it can't even run those. They don't work. Ultimately, it now is only used to run Google...but it has even figured out how to do that record braking slowly. To be truthful, it's actually quite impressive on what this computer CAN'T do. I'm actually using it to write a review about this computer on how bad it is. It's the most useful thing it's done to date. Save your money, buy a Chromebook if you're Google focused, and spend the extra $$ to buy a real computer if you need to load software. This thing is not worth it, I promise. ... show more

  • Buy with caution
RAM Size: 4 GB
I've had the 4GB version of this laptop for about a year and like it, BUT it is not a good laptop for the average person. The main problem is the limited disk space. 32 gig hard drive is way too small for a windows PC. The operating system takes up at least 20 gigs and once you start installing some basic software, you're left with maybe 3 or 4 gigs of free space. The main problem is that this is not enough space when Microsoft tries to download any major Windows update. I deleted the pre installed MS Office and lots of the other junk Dell preloaded, plus put in a 64 gig mico SD card. Some software can be installed to run from the micro SD card, but some will not run from a removable device. So my laptop runs reasonably well as a 2nd machine, but would not work if it was my primary PC. ... show more

  • Nice crisp sound with headphones
RAM Size: 4 GB
Strengths: Nice crisp sound with headphones, great lightweight machine and power cord, cool running (no heat whatsoever from machine or power cord). Also, contrary to some odd reviews, I get full network speeds with wifi. Limiting qualities: Small hard drive, low-power processor. A small amount of patience must be acquired for those who are using this to replace a full spectrum, mid/high-powered machine. You're not getting a $500 tablet or a $900 laptop in disguise. You're getting a light weight, light power, 11" display machine that is worth what it costs. No more, no less. Takeaways: As a teacher who does not much more than word-processing, streaming music, and light internet use, this machine is ideal. For what it costs, it's a great value and unlike a chromebook, it can run full applications instead of online versions of office apps. Any of the flaws that other reviews have included have proved either to be false or a result of limited knowledge or unrealistic expectations on the part of the users. A small amount of tech-saavy for tweaking things like the hard-drive hungry OS files and the sluggish touchpad settings can make this a perfectly acceptable machine. Tips for success: 1 Windows takes a lot of the hard disk space right off the bat, but as Windows overwhelms the hard drive with its updates and preloaded software, one can clean off extra programs and can prompt Windows to delete old and no longer used versions of itself. This gains back about 50% of the space initially swallowed by Windows and its inevitable updates. 2 Make sure and get a microsd card and an external cd-rom 3 Use the Dell touch-pad utility to up the touch-pad sensitivity/speed to avoid frustration. ... show more

  • Decent for the Price-- with some work, you can make it work!
RAM Size: 4 GB
I'm satisfied with this product. I knew when I bought it that it wouldn't be amazing, and it isn't, but it's definitely useable with a little work. Here are the things I did to make my computer work for me. - Buy and insert a micro-SD card. I got a 256 GB card and it cost almost as much as the computer itself, but you can get smaller cards cheaper. I have installed all my software onto the SD card, not the hard drive, and have been able to install Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Skype, etc. It was reaaaally slow during the set-up process, but when I actually use the installed software I don't notice any lag at all. Sometimes the installation/set-up process won't allow me to install directly onto the SD card, in which case I installed on C drive then copy and paste all the files to the SD card and delete them from the original location, then go back and replace all the shortcuts pointing to the new location of the files. Probably not the proper way to do things, but its worked for me so far. - Delete all the pre-installed apps that are physically possible to delete, and almost all the programs (make sure to leave the drivers behind, though!). This is my first experience with Windows 10, and I didn't realize that Windows 10 has both 'apps' and 'software' which are handled different and need to be deleted using separate menus. - Disable Windows Updates and go through and uninstall all the updates that were installed without my permission/knowledge before I figured out how. If, like me, you wake up the day after getting your new computer and discover that 10GB of the hard drive got suddenly filled up overnight due to Windows Updates you didn't ask for or want, go into the 'Windows' folder on your C drive and delete a folder called 'Software Distribution.' As far as I was able to figure out, this contains a back-up copy of the pre-update windows. Of course Microsoft doesn't recommend turning off Windows Update or deleting the backup files, and ideally you should not but I did and don't regret it, the computer is running soooo much smoother without Windows Update running in the background, eating up all the RAM and filling up the hard drive. I bought this computer because I am quitting my job to be a stay-at-home-mom, but I will continue to work part time as a freelance translator and I need a computer to do my work on, but don't have much money to put into it at this point. I specifically wanted a small and light computer that I can stuff in a diaper bag and carry around easily to work from wherever we are. This computer is more than sufficient for the translation work I do (simple text files) and although I might invest in a more powerful work computer in the future, I might not! I have no specific need for a powerful computer, and it would be a shame if the baby damaged a more expensive computer. ... show more

  • Good value laptop, 11" screen IF you follow these steps....
RAM Size: 4 GB
Not a bad laptop. IF........ Step 1. You have to do a fresh Windows re-install or else it will run unbearably slow. Just type "Windows Defender" in the search box and click on Windows Defender Security Center. Go to "Device Performance and Health" and click "Additional Info" under Fresh Start. It will uninstall all the unwanted apps and programs and give you a fresh copy of Windows 10. IT takes about an 45mins but its well worth it and makes a huge difference. And then also I uninstalled all the programs I didn't need. Part2 : I also set the number of processors to 2. Type "System" in the search box and go to "System Configuration" go to "Boot Tab" and then "Advanced Options" then click on box that says "Number of processors" and click on down arrow to change to 2. Now you have both working processors in win10. Now give it a few days, and you can delete the windows.old folder ... show more

  • Only for homework.
RAM Size: 4 GB
I'll be quick. It's good to type papers and other work related task. If you want music/games/videos saved on the computer, it won't hold much. It's says 32GB, when it is actually 19 GB. The rest of it is used to run the laptop. I don't care about the 100GB or 200 GB clould space, this device WILL SLOW DOWN if you even try to use it outside of paper work. I see this computer as garbage. It has nothing to offer that any other dinosaur computer can't do. You are better off eating sand, then to spend your money on this trash. Please I know you can do better than this... Don't be like me. ... show more

  • Beware the limited storage! Windows updates are very difficult.
RAM Size: 4 GB
After you update Windows a couple times, you’ll get a message that there is no space left on the drive for another Windows Update. This will happen even if you don’t install any other software or data on the drive. 32 gigs is just not enough to handle multiple Windows updates even if you keep deleting the unused files. Why would anyone design a computer that doesn’t even have enough space to keep Windows running? Here is a partial response to my complaint to Dell: I understand your concern related to the storage issue and I apologize for the same. Also let me explain about the storage capacity on this system and how it works. This laptop is designed for basic purposes like surfing the internet, watching videos online, reading emails, etc. It has storage sufficient only for the Windows operating system and some basic applications which aid in using the system. This takes up a major portion of the available storage on the 32GB hard drive leaving very little or no space to save/store anything else on the system. Over a period of time windows updates and temporary files would occupy the remaining space on the hard drive Solution for 1. Unable to install windows updates due to low disk space Since the system requirements from Microsoft for the latest windows update require your system to have free space of 8GB or more on the hard drive we will not be able to install the update from within the operating system. What we can do is use another computer (If available) and download the update on a flash drive using the steps mentioned below and reinstall the operating system. Note: This issue might reoccur and you may have to follow the same steps in the future wherever any new update is released for the windows 10 in future. Here are the steps to guide you to download windows 10 through media creation tool. Note: The Operating System re-installation would wipe the Hard Drive clean and you stand to lose all the data you have on the system. This includes the pictures, documents, music, etc. Any applications like MS Office, Quicken, etc. you installed after getting the system will have to be re-installed. So please backup the data on an external storage device or cloud. However, you cannot backup the applications. You would need the product key/ License key for the applications during re-installation. ... show more
