This is literally the best computer I have ever owned. SSD is the way to go and with 512 gb even better. Everything just works instantly and the set up was super fast and easy. This definitely can be used for regular computing as well as normal gaming. I personally use this laptop for graphic design work, and it works perfectly with Adobe software. The colors and the graphics card are great, the ram, etc. are all very decent in this machine. It just opens instantly evetime. Also its an IPS screen, so every angle looks great on the screen. What really looks nice on the screen is that there are virtually no bezels around the side. Somehow the web cam fits up top and I love the slide closed feature to protect from scammers. I really like that the keyboards lights up and I feel it’s a real necessity, I especially like when the Caps key lights up as well with an additional on and off light. Its very important for me when I work in a dark room. The keyboard itself is really nice and smooth to type on and they are very quiet as well. I also really like the very discreet fingerprint scanner. The battery is absolutely amazing it lasts about 4-6 hours depending on what you are doing at the time, but I would have better numbers with an accurate battery test. The laptop is extremely light and because it doesn’t have large bezels the machine is a little smaller than my older 15 inch laptops. The sound quality is good, not the best but very decent and works well. I wish it was a touch screen as well but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I also wish the screen would get a litter brighter than the highest setting but again not a deal breaker for me personally. It would also be nice if the laptop would have some more usb drives since it doesn’t have a CD drive. One major flaw is the internal fan. The laptop gets very hot when not used properly and I highly recommend an external laptop fan for longer and gaming type usage. Without it the internal fan just gets too loud. The laptop looks and feels beautiful. The fingerprint scanner works smoothly and the backlit keyboard is a dream to type on. Overall the laptop has been great for the past month of usage, but I'm giving it 4 stars because of an issue with the speaker and mouse. While these two components work, they can become glitchy when you move the laptop around. However, you can get the speaker and mouse working smoothly again by pressing on the side of the laptop. Bought this laptop for work to run xactimate and other estimating software as an independent adjuster. Runs everything fine, good battery life and I like the overall feel but it's already dead after 6 months. Let me be clear: I do not abuse this laptop. It mostly stays home to finalize estimates and I use my iPad in the rougher field environment. I turned it on as normal a week ago, and after 2 mins the screen just died. I was able to use an external monitor to backup all my files before sending to Dell for warranty repair. I tried to turn it on one last time before boxing it up just to double check, and at that point it was dead entirely. Would not power on. Very disappointing to spend $700 on this and have it fail under a year, and now my 5yo HP $350 walmart laptop that has given me literally 0 issues has to fill in for what was supposed to be my work computer. ... show more

My old Dell lasted over 8 years before the hard drive went so when I was shopping for a new laptop, I did my research. Once again, this Dell Inspiron was ranked very high by several tech sites and other consumers rated it very favorably so I purchased it and I am really happy with my choice. It is light weight, fast, and the keyboard is very responsive. I also appreciate the fact that I have the option of initially installing Word version 10 or 11 and can upgrade later if I want. I've had this laptop for over two months. I'm satisfied with its performance. It's fast in every respect, fast start up and fast internet browsing. I use my laptop for doing transcription work. The audio is crisp and clear, and the keyboard is responsive and doesn't make a lot of noise. The keyboard is backlit. It has a thumbprint reader, but I don't use this feature. I was using a very old laptop, and this was quite a change! It turns on just by flipping the lid open. The fingerprint reader always takes me at least two tries to log in, but it’s not an issue. The screen is comfortable to the eyes, especially when working long hours. It’s ‘fast’ and battery life is satisfactory. I love it. The reason for the 3 stars is that the backlit keyboard does not stay on. I have always bought Dell computers and have really liked them. I spend a lot of time researching which Dell to buy and the primary reason I bought this one was because of the backlit reboard.
