Used to replace a worn out First Alert system of one camera that was protecting my garage, car park, alley, and back yard. Two cameras now cover more of that space and the resolution is fantastic (clear details, and in bright colors). Not much instructions, so first timers might want to consult the online instruction book. Nothing to do really, remove from various plastic bags, attach cables (snap in) in all three pieces, and screw in the antennas and stands on the cameras. Plug in all three parts to a suitable surge protector (I like my new Revolve w/ rotating plugs to hold all the oversized adapters). Cameras immediately come on. Fool a bit with the settings, how long to record, etc. Personal preference really. I did not consult the online instructions. Then being a lazy sort of homeowner, I merely popped them on my inside window sill, pulled up the two corners of the screen and adjusted them to the right angle and closed the storm window(there is a roof overhang so window sill does not get wet). This gives me great wide look at whole backyard in both directions. Moved monitor to the bedroom directly west of the cameras and the whole system works beautifully (there is even a window a/c in this room and no problem with interference at all. This is a second floor application so the view is fantastic. This is a well made system, ie screen has an adjustable sturdy plastic foot, cameras are solid and stands easily adjust angles. While screen is plastic, cameras appear to be all metal of heavy duty weight. They stood up on their own with a little nudge and no fastening down. Fussy homeowners can hang out the window and fasten the cameras anywhere they like. Comes with two cameras, two stands, and three cords/adapters, slightly cheap fasteners for permanently fastening to house. Get some small (2"x2") decals that tell neighbors you have security cameras (if they have good eyes to see fine print). I would suggest ordering a BIG security camera sign on Amazon (I still had trouble with neighbors until the big signs went up, and now they run past property instead of stopping to look in my car windows). Also receive a little plastic pick for resetting device that looks like a dental floss pick that I will promptly lose. Few instructions, a few small paper directions on how to pair up the cameras if you have problem. They arrive paired up, so no problem there at all. Otherwise, consult the instruction book online if you are fussy and want to know every detail before you open box. But with just experience with an old, outdated system with one camera, I had system working in 5 minutes. Very pleased with this system, very detailed, beautiful resolution and color. Well made, sturdy, and easy to set up.

UPDATE Apr 2024: I have been using this monitor/camera security system for 6 years now - it has performed flawlessly in the heat of summer and freezing temperatures of winter. The picture was taken late at night today - there are no yard lights - only the camera infrared - there was a bit of fog. The screen images are HD perfect with auto-focus and exposure. I only have 3 cameras installed with a spare in reserve. ORIGINAL: I have been using the Defender system for around 6 months and I am totally satisfied with the product. It has functioned right out of the box - literally plug-and-play and continues to function flawlessly. It comes with 2 cameras, which is all I needed, but you can expand it with 2 more cameras purchased separately. I literally spent days researching all security camera offerings on Amazon and other online shopping vendors. Almost all of the offerings were for security cameras which relied on the "cloud" to store the recordings and a cell phone app to access them. Most also required a monthly service fee of one kind or another to get at your own recordings. I checked into fake security cameras - no wiring needed - I recommend that no one go that route - pointless - crooks can tell the difference. The Defender met all of my requirements: camera communicated via WIFI to a standalone mini computer - all the cameras need is a power source. I simply drilled a small hole through a wall and plugged in the power cord. The power cord has 2 sections so that you do not have to drill a hole as large as the wall plug. I use a simple appliance surge protector for each camera and the mini computer. The cameras are weather resistant - not water proof - they have not been affected by rain or snow as the roof eaves give partial protection - I may add a simple aluminum shield at a later date. The cameras have both day and night infrared optics. The cameras have a motion sensor with a wider range than the camera so that it starts recording even before the moving target enters the camera range. The mini computer analyzes the pixels and will begin recording if there is enough pixel changes to activate a motion hit - you can control the sensitivity. On the highest sensitivity, it will pick up bushes moving in a light breeze. The sensitivity settings are camera specific. They pick up small animals moving in the yard and the images are clear and crisp. The cameras also have a mic to pic up sound - so you can hear any conversation trespasser has. You also have an option to speak to someone outside via a speaker built into the camera. It comes with a SD memory card that is totally adequate but I ordered an additional memory card in case I had to turn over one to the police for evidence. If you use the continuous recording option, you might want to consider getting a larger SD memory card. I review any recordings daily and delete them if they show nothing worth keeping. The SD card holds 8GB or 700 minutes. The WIFI is good for 150 feet and was unaffected by walls, floors and ceilings. I was able to locate the mini computer anywhere in my 3 story with basement 5,000 sq ft house. You can record based on motion detection, scheduled recording periods, constant recording (it overwrites oldest recordings automatically - option), or on demand (press a REC button). You can control how long it will record from 15 seconds to 1 min for the motion detection recording. You can schedule each camera separately with selections by day (Monday), date (1-5th) and time ranges. You can individually turn cameras on and off, adjust brightness and adjust resolution. You can monitor cameras individually, with split screen or by rotation. You also have a SLEEP mode which will turn on the display only if it goes into recording mode. The recordings file screen appears as a calendar with days with recordings marked in blue - you can filter the calendar by all cameras or just one and search prior months. When you pick a day, all recordings for that day appear in a list for you to select and view and/or delete. This system is extremely well designed with all the features anyone could want and they are easy to understand and use.

I wanted something that was easy to install and easy to operate. I don't use WiFi which made finding a. good system a bit difficult. I came across this system and was impressed with the picture quality, alert feature that beeps should someone or something come within a 40 ft., range and the fact that you can speak to strangers through the camera which has become a necessary safety feature. The only four drawbacks are the price, size of monitor, thin cords connected to adapters and lack of a backup power supply. The monitor is a bit small and hard to see from a distance if you have more than two cameras hooked up., The wires are a little fragile and can get damaged easily if care is not taken while tacking them down. The cost is a little too too high for the product but, this is just my opinion. Last, there is no backup power supply should there be a power outage. The power went out in my area for about 10 minutes and the system shut down. I had to press the power button on the monitor to restart the system and continue recording... So-, if if you leave home, for whatever reason, and there is a power outage, you can not record the activity on/around your property until you return home to manually restart the system. 😶Also, it would be nice to have the option of selecting and purchasing a larger monitor. Despite this,the general quality of the item seems to be very good. It seems to be fairly dependable. Despite this, I definitely feel much safer knowing what's going on around my property without having to look out of a window.
