  • " if you can get passed the first 20 or so minutes....."
Its been a while coming but here you can now view the unrated version along side the R rated cut. I can remember when this movie was released in the UK and the then named British Board of Film Censors demanded that Michael Winner cut some scenes. To my recollection he did remove a scene and re-edit others in the 2 rape sequences. You can now view what Winner originally filmed in the unrated cut. Please be warned they are graphic even by todays standards. One wonders how Winner thought he could get this version passed the censor at the time. Even now I very much doubt if this version will be released in the UK. The rest of the film is " pure Death Wish " as Bronson as Paul Kersey goes about finding those responsible for killing his daughter and maid and despatching them to their premature deaths. The disc by Shout factory is a very good transfer considering the age of film. This one is for the fans of the series despite the graphic material at the start of the film. I can remember Winner being interviewed about the violence in the movie. He replied that he thought that Death Wish 2 was " a harmless little thriller" Judge for yourself. ... show more

  • Satisfying Vigilante Justice
I'm a big fan of Bronson's body of work in general, but consider the iconic Death Wish series among his best. This is definitely not the best of the Death Wish series but it has some of its most easily hated 'bad dudes'. There are no punches pulled at the beginning of this movie, the first twenty minutes are basically two rape scenes back to back, and if you're sensitive (you're watching the wrong movie) - and even if you're NOT sensitive, these are a little intense to watch, because they're pretty graphic, and one of the two victims is someone who was still mentally recovering from a previous rape (in Death Wish 1). It sounds brutal because it is, but as mentioned earlier - it makes you HATE the bad guys in the film. It establishes them as truly evil, which makes it all the more satisfying when Bronson goes after them. The kills are all satisfying, the pacing's good and the dialogue holds up. Def worth a watch, but you of course want to watch these movies in order. Oh and PS, yes, that IS Morpheus. ... show more

  • "You Believe In Jesus...Well, You're Gonna Meet Him!" (BANG!!!)
The sequel is quite the same as the original. This time he goes after the gangs that raped and murdered his daughter. She's probably tired playing a rape victim. Also another actor is in here you'll probably seen in other movies, he plays Cutter. Jill Ireland is in a lot of Charles Bronson films but this one is my favorite. Charles Bronson says clever lines. Specially the line he says "You believe in Jesus..Well, You're gonna meet him!" (BANG!!!) Excellent line, they gave him or he thought of it himself (Sometimes they do). This is a brilliant and exciting vigilante action film. I would recommend it to those who like vigilante films. Five stars all the way. ... show more

  • so that's why we have the 3 strikes law?!!
Just thought I'd watch it for ol'times sake. Couldn't make it past the first 10 minutes. What shameful depictions of gangbangers. Just like the first one, they make us try to believe that the same absurd premise from the first one, could happen again. Is this Weekend at Bernies? Part of Mr. Kersey's problem is that he seems to always be off at work while being inattentive to the ladies. I mean, he goes right back to architecture after his maid is raped. The "bad guys" don't kill him at the house....just a stupid, stupid movie. ANd I'm a guy that loves 80's trash fare. Save your money and time. ... show more

  • Same Story - Different Location
It's basically the same as Death Wish 1, except it takes place in San Francisco. Poor Paul can't catch a break. This time he's held up in broad daylight by five lowlives while in line to buy ice cream. Then they break into his home, rape and murder his housekeeper, then abduct and rape his daughter (still deep in PTSD from Death Wish 1) who ends up dying trying to escape. This wakens Paul's inner vigilante and he goes on his expected killing spree. Bronson of course, does a great job, and anyone into this type of movie will probably enjoy it. Considering most people tend to root for the vigilante, this type of movie always raises interesting questions on what people believe deep down about revenge even if they don't voice those opinions. ... show more

  • Even better than the original!
It's rare that a sequel is as good as the original, but this is one of those cases. Subsequent sequels in the series were not as good as this one, of course. We obviously know that the odds of a professional architect finding such trouble as often as Mr Kersey does are pretty much zero in real life. And that we would be in big trouble as a society if each of us individually decided to take the law into our own hands at any opportunity. With that said, there's no way any decent law-abiding citizen can help rooting for Kersey as he finds and takes care of those evil scumbags (who raped and killed his daughter and housekeeper) one by one - doing the job the inept local law enforcement and court bureaucracies could not or would not do. It is unfortunate that thugs such as those who raped and killed Kersey's family are out there in real life. And that they often get away with many violent crimes before being caught or killed. And that the criminal justice system is often too soft on them when they're caught. But they occasionally choose to mess with the wrong person and get exactly what is coming to them before LE and courts can even get to them. ... show more

  • Better than the Original !
Sequels are rarely as good as the original...except for this one. It's better. Paul Kersey gets right down to it. He's the quintessential vigilante and in a good way. The unlucky gang punk members that steal his wallet don't know what they're getting in to. Their unlucky day. Miiiiiiister Kersey shows them some manners the hard way. Kersey: Do you believe in Jesus? Punk: Uhhh, yeah. Kersey: Good. You're about to meet him. ... show more
