I got this on a whim, cause I’ve heard of it, and wanted to see what it was like for myself. Turns out it’s some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. I’m a college student, and have been drinking coffee for years. This coffee is super solid. Not super bitter, it’s smooth, it’s a nice drink to have in the morning while on the porch, in your rocking chair, or in a thermos, prepping for a long day of meetings and brain rot. I was most surprised by the taste. When you hear “World’s Strongest Coffee”, you’d think it’d be more bitter than a selfish ex, right (though that may be just me, lol.)? But nope! I drink it from the classic drip coffee maker, and it drinks well. The grounds have a lovely floral/fruity scent, that doesn’t hit you in the face like a Bath and Bodywork’s candle but is enough to give you a wave. The drink itself is smooth, and has the slightest scent of fruit (which makes sense), and doesn’t smell like burnt or char, and doesn’t have a hint of acid, which I find quite refreshing. It tastes good (has the smallest hint of a coffee flavor, but also in tandem with some more classic fruity flavor, but not strong. It ain’t water, but it ain’t concentrate, if that makes sense.), not too strong, and doesn’t overwhelm you, even as a darker roast. Overall, I’d recommend it for someone who’s used to drinking coffee, and wants a higher quality brew, with a cool looking bag. I say someone who’s used to drinking coffee because here’s the important caveat: This coffee has a high caffeine content. I know, easy to say as a buying point, doesn’t always mean it’s legit. But let me tell you: this coffee is the real deal, and has enough caffeine to keep you going in sips, rather than needing more than one mug in one sitting to stay alive during the morning before your next cuppa. It’s a kick in the pants, gotta admit, and as a 5 foot 160 pound man, it’s enough to keep me up and running. So not for those who are new to caffeine, or are more sensitive to caffeine. When they say “start with one cup in isolate”, they were NOT kidding. One 8 ounce polka dot cup was enough to get me through some yard work, two art commissions, a morning walk, and some calisthenics. It’s potent, a bang for a good tasting buck. And if you wanna try drinking it regularly, I’d recommend diluting it a bit with some hot water as you get used to it, so you can get used to it (or hell, be a rebel and make Death Wish cold brew concentrate to drink in a diluted afternoon cold cup). Overall, I’d recommend it, 10/10. Folgers ain’t got nothing on this, and Death Wish being fair trade is a bonus. :)

TL;DR: Death Wish Coffee is good. So my sleep habits are not a mystery to anyone. I average about 4-4.5 hours of actual sleep a night (as opposed to just laying in bed thinking about everything, like math because I do that). Needless to say, I drag in the mornings. Enter Death Wish Coffee. I should note that I have tried this before, but it was at a bar and I was already a couple drinks in. It ships in a bag, inside a box, inside another box. Upon arrival I could smell it through the exterior box. The smell is strong but delightful, and I could tell it was going to be an experience. Comparing it to “regular” coffee is hardly fair. The aroma is stronger, the color richer, and quite a bit darker. Like. REALLY dark. I started the brewing process then stepped in the back to turn lights on and get ready for the day ahead. The scent of coffee immediately filled my office, the one across the hall, and the hallway with its perfume. This was a welcome development since my office generally smells awful. I think something may have died in the drop ceiling a room over. I’ve used a ladder to look up there and haven’t found anything; perhaps the smell is originating somewhere else. After pouring this in my mustache-protecting cup (nothing worse than having your facial hair soak up liquids) I could tell it was considerably darker than a regular roast or even other dark roasts. Not quite “used motor oil” black, but not too far off. Speaking of, I drink my coffee black the way it is intended to be drank. No fancy, organic, free trade, non-GMO, gluten free, crossfitting, vegan friendly, sugar or creamer for me. I should probably note that this coffee is “USDA Organic” certified by QAI US-ORG-050. Whatever that means. I can’t drink my coffee anywhere near the temperature of the Earths core, like some people I know, so I let it sit a minute to get to a drinkable temp. This gave me some time to fully appreciate the smell and, as a bonus, built the anticipation even higher. I was in no way, shape, or form prepared for the kick in the face that I was about to receive. Despite the smell, I expected this coffee to be bitter like most other coffees. Not the case. This was very smooth and not at all acidic tasting/feeling. I immediately felt my pulse quicken and my productivity levels increase. Drinking this on an empty stomach may not have been the “smartest” decision but the one I made and the one I had to live with. I felt alive. With this newfound vigor I was able to complete all of my work for the day before 1100. I will spend the rest of the day waiting for FedEx or whoever to make their delivery. With the extra time I had on my hands I decided to see if my desire to work had increased or if my efficiency level was up as well. I did the only thing I knew to do, take a typing test. I type pretty quickly as it is, generally in the 85 wpm area. With all this energy, I was able to hit 124 wpm (at my fastest) and averaged 97 wpm throughout the typing test. Needless to say, I was pumped. This coffee is great. The only downside is that it is somewhat expensive. At $20 for a 1lb bag the cost may be a deterrent for most. However, a little bit goes a long way and they make K-cups for all you fancy pants people that know how to work a Keurig. Hmmm…this review has ended up being a little longer than anticipated and oddly enough longer than some papers I have written for school.

I’ve tried a lot of coffee, and Death Wish Coffee definitely stands out. It has a rich, bold flavor without being overly bitter, and it gives me a noticeable energy boost that lasts. I appreciate that it’s strong but still smooth enough to enjoy black or with a little creamer. If you’re looking for a high-caffeine coffee that actually tastes good, this is a great choice. I’ll definitely be buying it again.

I posted a 5 star review for this coffee the day I purchased it, however, on reflection, I decided to start over. Good marketing - Oh yes. World's "strongest" coffee? Well, that depends on the definition of "strong". If they mean bold, I disagree. It is a bold coffee, but certainly not the boldest. It is certainly a good tasting coffee and, as many people are saying, it is a very smooth coffee. I am not a fan of Starbucks coffee at all; haven't had any in years. However, when I did try it, it was very strong/bold, but not very tasty. (I drink coffee black, so I taste only coffee). Strong and bold mean nothing if they quality of taste isn't there. This is a tasty coffee in my opinion. However, in the four or so days since I've been drinking it, I find myself upping the amount of grinds for more boldness. In my book, this is not even close to the world's boldest coffee - but that's not what they are claiming. Now, on to the caffeine. Does it contain twice the amount of caffeine of the average coffee? I don't know and I can't test that. I do know that it does, indeed, contain caffeine or I would have a daily headache if it didn't. I also know that I feel no discernible difference in it than any other coffee I drink. Reading reviews here, I think many, many people have been taken in by the marketing of 200% more caffeine. So, in a nutshell, yes it's good, smooth, bold coffee, better than average, but not the strongest or boldest. It is no more apt to give you energy or the jitters than any other coffee barring decaf (a big ol' waste of beans that stuff is!) Would I buy it again for $20/pound? I wouldn't, but a member of my family likes it so we'll keep a bag around for now and see how it plays out. I would rather they omitted the slick black box and the advertising sticker and priced it lower. I hope it tastes good to you. Update: June, 2016: Death Wish has been all but forgotten by the family. When we ran out, nobody begged for more. I wish them luck, but I guess we won't continue drinking it.. Again...good coffee, but not great.

If you prefer your coffee to be a bit on the zippy side, Death Wish Coffee has got you covered! This coffee always rates in the top two or three coffees with the highest caffeine content. However, it's also very bold and rich. Which is why it stands up to creamer very well. It's excellent coffee!

I've tried a lot of dark roast coffees, and this one has quickly become one of my favorites. The flavor is bold and rich without being overly bitter, and it has a smooth finish that's easy to enjoy every morning. It gives me the extra boost I need to start the day while still tasting like a high-quality coffee. I also appreciate that it's organic and Fair Trade. It brews well in my coffee maker, and the aroma fills the kitchen as soon as it's brewing. If you enjoy a strong, flavorful cup of coffee, I highly recommend giving Death Wish Coffee a try. I'll definitely be buying it again.

I've long since accepted my coffee-snob status and tout it proudly. I cannot speak to stronger/strongest globally, but it is a good tagline. Hands down, this is in a 3-way tie for my first place/most favored roast/brand. It is expensive as h**l but always worth it when I can stretch the splurge. And yes, I 'abuse' my coffee (per coffee-snob code) in percolating it; but I do so in an electric percolator. Death Wish or Gevalia are about the only brands I'll buy at a grocery store (most of my coffee I order from here); the classic, traditional U.S. brands we've had for generations now, are, what I unceremoniously call, the market swill; I'll usually just drink a green tea blend of some kind instead. I don't have much for expensive taste preferences, GOOD coffee is about the only 'insist' I have. The specialty diet I'm on is medical/health relevant so I do consume more costly foodstuffs overall, and like the GOOD coffee, I've noticed that the higher quality consumables leave me much more satisfied, sated, and feeling properly nourished on much less in quantity/volume of food/beverage consumed. It really doesn't sound like correct math, I know, but overall, I spend less, and eat better/healthier for it. Death Wish (and other high-end coffees) pair much better with the 'ancient grain' breads and the other such specialty foods, at least to my minimal tastes. I'd lived on low-grade, generic fair most all of my life because I've never been anything but poor, as well as just not caring or preferring anything different; it wasn't until my piss-poor diet became a/the primary driver for some health issues that I started reevaluating what I eat and drink. Switching to GOOD coffee was the beginning, finding Death Wish came much later, but it will always be found among a trio of great coffees in my home. Not being borderline diabetic anymore (at least for now), AND still getting to have my GOOD coffee the way I like it with a bit of raw sugar and cream, so what if it is still a death wish, it's of the tastiest!
