Ford 9N... Our local tractor supply carries the crossover part number for their Countyline brand, but for over $230. Although convenient, its WAY, WAY over priced!!!! We waited the 3 day shipping and Purchased like new option for $60 from DB. As far as first glance, there were a few minor scuffs and it didn't come with instructions which was not a deal breaker as its about the easiest starter to install! Its also isnt a show room tractor, and we make it pull its weight around the farm, so scuffs weren't an issue! Took the chance and glad we did!!! It took about 15 minutes to take the old one out and put this one on. Direct mount up points for bolts. Started right up after install! I would recommend even full price option as opposed to paying the extra $120 "convenience fee" from local farm store. ... show more

The shaft on my original starter got bent when doing a clutch change on my 8n, so I was left with little choice other than this type of starter. Install in an assembled tractor with any starter is a challenge, thank Henry Ford for that design. But this starter works well enough even though it has some clunky type noise as it engages and disengages the starter ring. Mine is a 12v setup, so it spins very well. Hope I never need another, but would buy again if I do. Installation issues aren't this part's fault, it's a design flaw in the tracotr itself but isn't insurmountable with enough patience. ... show more

    • vERY GOOD sRARTER
Excellent copy of the original starter. My old starter just was too old to crank the engine well. Groaned and moaned. This unit fit perfectly. I would have liked to see a note or tag regarding the bendix and ability to jump off the groove if turned too far by hand. If you twist the bendix drive by hand, there is a small unseen plunger that goes into a groove inside and won't come back out. This plunger keeps the drive engaged until the tractor starts and the centrifugal force allows the plunger to release the bendix from the flywheel. There is a tape wrapped around the shaft to keep this from happening during shipping and should be removed before installation. Be warned! DON'T MESS WITH IT. ... show more

    • Bendix is junk
This starter works but the Bendix setup is junk. Once you use the starter and start the engine the bendix does not completely disengage and if you try to turn the engine over by hand it will turn a short distance and then the Bendix locks up engine and you can turn it in either direction. You then have to bump the starter to get the engine to turn again. It is a very aggravating deal. After a few weeks of use the starter started dragging so bad that it would not turn fast enough to crank the engine. Now buyers beware this starter says it has a 1year warranty but trust me it won't happen. DB Electrical says the warranty has to go through Amazon then Amazon says it has to go through DB Electrical. I spent about 2hrs on the phone and finally had to settle for 30% less than what I paid for it. Amazon basically told me take it or leave it. ... show more
