  • Very frustrating UPDATE
I was doing a 5 year maintenance on my truck. I ordered a new alternator and it was sent UPS. As normal. UPS was late and the box was destroyed. But the alternator looked OK. So I installed it. On ideal it had zero charge. So I reved it up and it started charging. So I took the truck for a test run. The faster I went. The higher the charge. At 70mph is was showing 15.8 volts Plus a whining noise started then my truck overheated. I checked all connections and battery. Everything was good. So now. I'm waiting again for a answer for a replacement. I'm just praying they don't send it ups or FedEx. Both are very slow in my area. And UPS always damages my packages. I will post a update when I get the replacement. Till then. I have to rent a truck. UPDATE. I REMOVED the new alt. And inspected it. One of the pens in the 3 pen plug was bent and was not making contact. I fix the pen and install the alt. Now it changes great. No problem at all. ... show more

  • J U N K... WARRANTY USELESS
item looked great upon arrival however only worked for about 45 days and now only puts out 11.6volts.. Don't waste your time or money. They want me to ship back on my dime and when they receive the item they will send out replacement. So what do you do with the vehicle in the meantime. Hope you can uber or take a bicycle! Plus the cost for someone to replace it 2x because of there product failure.. I understand things break sometimes but when it will cost me for the failure that is unacceptable. ... show more

This alternator solved my dim lights and dead battery problems instantly

  • Easy fix for my 2008 F-150
My 2008 Ford F-150 5.4L truck developed a "Check Charging System" error after running through some deep water from a sudden thunderstorm. At first I thought the battery had failed. It was old, and had a lot of acid buildup on the positive terminal. I installed the new battery, but the problem persisted. I figured that I'd try the alternator next. I found this one and read some reviews. It was half the price of the option from my local store. The install was pretty easy. A quick Youtube video, and I was ready. On my 2008, it was negative battery terminal off, intake shroud and air box removed/shifted out of the way, belt tension released, belt off the pulley and supported with a bungie (to keep it from falling off the other pulleys), disconnecting the wiring (the plug has a clip that you can release with a screwdriver or cats claw tool and pull gently), remove the top mounting bracket bolts (4) and then loosen the lower bolts. Once complete, you can simply lift the alternator out. Install in reverse order, and you're set. Be ready for your alarm to go off when you reconnect the negative battery lead. Sorry neighbors! Maybe took me 40 minutes max. ... show more

  • How to fix/address "check charging system" light
As stated, this is a new alternator and it is also 130 amps as recommended for your 2004-2008 F150 with V8 engine. If you are buying this alternator to fix your intermittent "check charging system" light then you will also need to buy Dorman 645-136 3 wire connector on Amazon. The plug is more likely the culprit than the alternator. If the battery light is always on then maybe you could blame the alternator but if it is intermittent then it is likely the plug. If you are still having problems after changing both the plug and the alternator then you will need to get a wiring schematic and look at the two wires that travel from the alternator to ECM or a possible fusible link between the battery and alternator. Check videos on Youtube for "check charging system light on f150". Also, if you have a pre 2007 model it might also be the amp sensor that is connected to one of the battery cables. I did not have this amp sensor on my 2007. The "check charging system" light is a huge problem for these trucks and I was determined to fix it because I like this body style F150 and I wanted to keep mine on the road for a long time. Just FYI, I was not having any actual charging issues, no dead battery, no problems starting, etc. Some people experience actual starting and charging issues. If you are having those types of problems it may not be the Dorman plug. Before you start diagnosing the issue I recommend having your battery load tested and also cleaning your terminals. I hope this review helps someone as I struggled with this issue for 6 months. Good luck! ... show more
