I am a very tech driven person, I build emulators, connect many devices to Alexa, Google, automatic light switches, and these lights frustrated me a little. I bought 3 sets of 12. In one set I was given a different brand Lightbulb that was not able to connect to the app. These lights work on 2.4ghz wifi, so I changed my router settings. The router needed to be as close as possible to the lights for them to work properly. A few of the bulbs could not connect to the app as they would not reset, even after following the instructions, and disconnecting for a few days. Once I got most up and running, made groups in the app to control each chandelier. And another for both chandeliers. One thing that is concerning, these Bulbs get very hot. Luckily they are only on at night. I was able to replace a set, solving my problem with the faulty and off brand bulb. All lights then worked! Many many many connections and time waiting to pair. These lights look amazing. I definitely went overboard putting that many bulbs outside but so far so good! ... show more

I DIY a lot of my home automations (arduino), but when I saw the 12-pack of these bulbs on sale, it made sense to save myself some time and effort, especially since I could now use these in our non-smart house fixtures! My review is based on wide-spread use in a home with growing smart automations. If you're wanting just a couple lights to have fun with, these will work great using just Tuya or paired with voice control! The apps: I was already using Tuya paired with Alexa before getting these lights. I've had no issues with my other devices, nor have I had issues with these lights. Pairing is super quick and easy, but connect your phone's wifi to your 2.4 wifi first. I suggest pairing one at a time so you can name them based on the location as you go. Tuya has a great interface for controlling the lights, and I loved that I was able to create a separate Tuya account for each of my kids, then share only the light that was in their room with them. Now they can open their own app and have control of only their bedroom bulb, while I also have control of it in my account - the one linked to Alexa. I was relieved to see this as I have no intention of giving them access to the accounts that manage the household automations! Also, black light posters became the order of business for Christmas after setting these up! It is true that the pairing will be lost if the power to the bulb is turned off for too long (as in flipping the switch and cutting power, not telling Alexa to turn the light off). Re-pairing them is inconvenient - but the bulb is remembered (the old device name is remembered in Tuya and Alexa, so it's not a brand new setup). I added a wall light switch block to prevent turning them off, plus I added sensors for non-voice control and automation (motion sensor or wifi button sensor as a new on/off switch). I also have the lights paired with my Home Assistant setup. The way Tuya is working with HA for pairing is awesome! Note: I tested disabling the Tuya-Alexa connection, isolating all Alexa connections through HA, but that didn't go over well. The Tuya-Alexa communication was quicker and didn't require time to update the status each time I opened the Alexa app. That being said, I have all my scripts/scenes outlined in HA - I can tell Alexa to run an HA scene, which will control any Tuya bulbs included in it. In HA, I have my Tuya devices not being shared over the cloud with Alexa - if you don't do this, the devices will show up in Alexa twice. Tuya's response to an HA dashboard button is fast. The bulb: This is on the bulbs, not Alexa or Tuya - the user interface they support in Alexa is limited to the various shades of white (not including the warmest) and a handful of colors. You can look up Alexa's recognized color list and tell it to change the light to any of those colors, though - but if you want to create a routine with a color missing in the light's list, you instead need to give Alexa a custom action in your routine ("set light to x color"). In Tuya, each lightbulb has custom scenes you can setup - great for saving favorite colors - but those are not shared with Alexa. Tuya also has general scenes you can setup affecting multiple devices, which are shared with Alexa, but this bulb has a bug in it's setup that prevents setting a color. Home Assistant ended up being the missing link to get the very precise, detailed control I wanted. In both Alexa and HA automations/routines, I found it's best to set the color, then the percent separately. I got inconsistent results when the commands were lumped. (set light to color, wait, set light to brightness; otherwise one or the other may get skipped). These lights are super bright! I generally have no need to run them over 70-80% brightness, even as the only bulb in a room. Unfortunately, dimming to 1% is also too bright, especially as a nightlight. I've found a deeper shade of orange/red set to 1% helps, but turning it on in the middle of the night is still a bit too much. Given the price and convenience of these, I don't want to return or try another brand. I plan to add shades to the ones I want to be night-light friendly, hoping diffusing and blocking some of the light can get the range I desire. ... show more

*ORIGINAL REVIEW WITH GENTLE WAKE UP TIPS BELOW* First time editing a review, going from 5 stars to 2. Will happily remove my edits/return to 5 stars if manufacturers put out a software update to fix these issues, which SHOULD be easy for them to do. First of all, the unpairing/disconnection issues are REAL. Do not use in any fixture you plan on occasionally using the normal switch on (which, trust me, despite what you think, will probably be all of them at some point). MOST smart bulbs on the market can handle being turned off in the fixture for a long time & reconnecting automatically once they get power again. No need to re-pair them, no crazy flashing, etc. Worst case, other smart bulbs, when they DO occasionally disconnect, almost always have a basic default setting so they can work like normal bulbs even when not linked/connected, so at the very least you have a "dumb" bulb for a while that still lights stuff. THESE bulbs automatically go into pairing mode every 2 or 3 times you turn off the fixture (most bulbs only do this if you flick them on/off really quickly), AND disconnect/automatically reset when you turn off the fixture for any extended period of time. When you DO turn them back on, they start flashing on and off and won't stop until you go into the app go through the pairing process again. Not only inconvenient, not only incredibly annoying, but also horribly blinding when you suddenly find yourself with a bunch of lights going INSANE flashing on and off. Seriously, it's so bad it makes me nauseous, and I don't have any medical issues with flashing lights otherwise. TO DAYBETTER/MANUFACTURERS: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE roll out an update that FIXES THIS. Give the bulbs a basic white DEFAULT SETTING, and allow them to reconnect/re-pair with previously known pair settings automatically unless SPECIFICALLY reset by the user (ideally by making the on/off sequence to go into reset mode a quicker thing, rather than any 3 times the bulb goes off, or whatever terrible nonsense is happening right now.) This CAN'T be that hard because every time you have to re-pair it, the bulbs automatically link back up to their old settings/device info in the app. The only difference is that now, WE need to go into the app and click "okay" to allow this re-pair to happen. MAKE IT AUTOMATIC!! All other smart bulbs I've had (NONE of which were "Hue" bulbs, all cheaper versions) have always done this. There's no reason for these bulbs to have such poor functionality in comparison. Left at 2 stars instead of one because I liked everything else (see below) and because they work fine for me in plant light fixtures which never get turned off. But that's just ONE, very rare, circumstance. As normal bulbs around the house these are useless. ************ ORIGINAL REVIEW (5 star) I bought these primarily to try to mimic Daylight, including Sunrise & Sunset at set times for plants (and to somewhat mimic light from a window for human experience, rather than just setting lights on a basic on/off timer). I also have a couple in normal fixtures, set to "Incandescent" color. Overall - love these - bought a second pack after trying the first. Bright & so far true to color. I mostly wanted a range of "white" that didn't feel too artificial in the warms or cools, but haven't really tested the RGB colors much. I've had 3 or 4 different types of smart bulbs over the years, and while it's been a while since I had to order more, these are so far the brightest & most affordable, with same level of smart functionality as the others. **TIPS for Smart Home SUNRISE/SUNSET functionality, including Google Home Gentle wake up/slow morning fade up...*** Eventually, I may spend the time to program subtle color changes based on weather/time of day, but for now I only set up sunrise/sunset. These were easy to connect to with SmartLife, and each bulb automatically shows up in Google Home (once you have SmartLife linked). SmartLife is limited in terms of scenes/programming, and I found both GH & SL lacked "slow fade" options, so you basically have to program brightness/color changes minute by minute, one percent at a time, if you want something like that. The one quick option I found is "Gentle Wake Up" and "Gentle Sleep" in Google Home for slow fade up/fade down over 30 minutes. These don't exactly mimic sunrise/sunset in terms of color, but they're close enough for me for now. (I'm not sure if Alexa Home has better functionality in this regard.) The one issue I ran into with "Gentle Wake Up" is that GH apparently sometimes has issues with non-Hue bulbs with this function. For some reason, a lot (maybe all?) non-Hue bulbs first need to be turned on before they can start "Gentle Wake Up" (basically, if you set GWU as a routine, and they're off, they won't turn on at all). The workaround is, in routines, to set the following steps: FIRST, set the bulb(s) to 1% brightness, THEN turn on the bulbs, THEN start "Gentle Wake Up" in the room. If you want them to end up at a specific color, set "after thirty minutes" a step for "fade to X color." This ensures they don't suddenly turn on with the previous settings (like max brightness) and startle you awake if you're using them to wake yourself up slowly, and ensures the final setting is whatever you want it to be during the day (during "gentle wakeup" they seem to start warm-ish for me). Adding the 30 minutes before setting color/fade (or any other changes) ensures the "gentle wakeup" isn't interrupted, and they don't get stuck at 1% brightness. Gentle Sleep works normally without any added steps, and they turn off fully after fading down. Also, in case anyone is trying to set up Gentle Wake Up similarly, be aware that the command applies to the specific room you're giving it in, unless otherwise specified, AND it applies to ALL lights in the room. To get around this, and only turn on specific lights, I created a separate "room" in GH for just the sunrise lights. In the routine, the GWU command specifies "Gentle Wake Up in X room". ... show more
