In my experience, these Daiwa reels represent excellent value in the current market. The reels operate with impressive smoothness and quietness, made possible by the high-quality bearings integrated throughout. The overall fit and finish are outstanding, reflecting careful attention to detail in every part of the reel. My reel arrived securely packaged, and included extra washers and shims, which could be useful for future adjustments if necessary. Assembly was straightforward, requiring only the insertion and tightening of the handle. The black and gold color scheme Daiwa selected for this series is visually striking and adds to the appeal of the reels. These spools are designed to be braid-ready, featuring a rubber insert in the center to help grip braided fishing line, though it’s still possible to use a monofilament backer for additional security against line slippage, similar to traditional spools. While I have come across comments from others suggesting the bail mechanism may feel weak or unresponsive, I have not encountered any such issues with my reels. In fact, after being very satisfied with my first purchase (the 3000 size), I decided to buy two more in different sizes (2500 and 4000). Having previously used Shimano reels, I can say that I am thoroughly pleased with these Daiwa reels and have become a dedicated user. Daiwa has clearly improved their products and now offers consistently high-quality reels at competitive prices.

I love Daiwa BG reels. I have an older 4500, a slightly newer 5000 and I just bought a new 5000. I'm a creature of habit. If you find something good, stick with it. Some people will fall in love with a specific running shoe and then buy like 5 pairs to have for the future. Well, I'm almost like that with my Daiwa reels, except I use them and don't keep them in the closet for the future. My 4500 I bought probably in 2020? Maybe 2019. It has been a WORKHORSE. I paid probably $105 for it. The 5000 was probably $110 to $120 sometime in the last couple of years. Prices have escalated on everything so I was concerned when I went looking for the new 5000. I found this seller with this reel, braid and lure deal. The reel is of course exactly what I wanted. The braid is the Japanese X-braid company braid and it is 50# and 330 yards. It filled my new 5000. The lure is a Rapala like big-lip trolling type lure. I paid $128 before tax for this new one. So...I think I got a hell of a good deal considering price inflation taking place. I sort of expected a beat up package to show up of a "seconds" reel. NOPE, it came in the original packaging untouched. I took the reel apart and it is just like my two other ones. So smooth. No chatter. Buy a BG and you'll know. The braid is a GREAT add... I don't know what that would cost in the store but it sure was great to have that thrown in. And the lure looks like a great lure. So all in all, super deal.

Two 5000's ordered at the same time are defective. The bails do not auto flip to the reeling position after opened. This means these reels are not quality tested, or they're trying to see if people won't return lemons in time to get a refund.
