Super smooth! Great drag

The Daiwa BG MQ reel is very smooth and has an excellent drag system. Very high quality materials and build. I purchased the 3000 for inshore fishing and I love it. Update: This reel is even better that I expected. I caught two 30+ LB sting rays back to back. They were going with the current so both ran off 75-80 yards of line twice. The drag did get warm on the second one but for a small reel it performed flawlessly! I was impressed enough that I bought another one after using the first one.

Best all around sub $200 spinning reels

I have the 2500 and 3000 sizes right now. They're low maintenance, super smooth, strong drag, and can handle any fish you hook. The only negative I've found is the chrome plate on back of reel gets green and corroded from the elements. (Doesn't effect performance) It would be nice if Daiwa made some flat black replacement pieces for them. These are my favorite reels and I will add more as my older reels wear out.

Light reel with great casting distance

Overall a great reel, so far. It's a light reel (physical weight) which is great since we're on the water an average of 6 hours a day this time of year. Casting range seems to be farther than my other reels using the same rod. So far the drag has held up and both the 3000 and 2500 are doing great. The drag "sound" is pretty quiet, which is okay. We like knowing when the other person hooks up by the sound but with these reels we can't. But we know how to talk. :-) The real test will be how long they last.

Subject: Defective Item – Daiwa BG MQ 5000H (Mechanical Issue / Faulty Oscillation) Message: Hello, I am contacting you regarding my recent purchase of the Daiwa BG MQ 5000H reel. The reel is brand new and has never been used on the water, but it has a severe factory defect in the internal oscillation mechanism. Here are the specific technical issues with the reel: Abnormal Metallic Noise: Every 3 to 4 turns of the handle, there is a distinct, periodic metallic clicking/clicking sound (sounding like metal hitting glass) coming from inside the Monocoque body. This indicates a damaged or deformed gear in the internal mechanism. Faulty Oscillation/Line Lay: The spool does not move up and down smoothly or proportionally. When it reaches the top or bottom of the cycle, the spool completely freezes for a second and then abruptly "jumps" 3–4mm. This causes the line to bunch up heavily and stack unevenly (forming a severe V-shape or top-heavy profile). Internal Binding: The rotation of the handle feels heavy and catching, indicating that the internal gears are binding due to this misalignment. I have already taken the reel to a professional tackle shop (Bass Pro Shop), and their technician confirmed that this is a known factory defect within the internal oscillation assembly of this specific unit. Since the product is defective out of the box and covered by insurance/warranty, I would like to request a full refund or a brand-new replacement unit. Please let me know the steps to return this defective item.

Nice smooth reel. I got the 10000. Wish the drag knob had more click to it. Kinda feels like tightening a jar. All my other Daiwa’s click and feel better. Drag seems to work fine. Just wish the knob had a better feel when adjusting the drag pressure
