The Daiwa BG MQ reel is very smooth and has an excellent drag system. Very high quality materials and build. I purchased the 3000 for inshore fishing and I love it. Update: This reel is even better that I expected. I caught two 30+ LB sting rays back to back. They were going with the current so both ran off 75-80 yards of line twice. I have the 2500 and 3000 sizes right now. They're low maintenance, super smooth, strong drag, and can handle any fish you hook. The only negative I've found is the chrome plate on back of reel gets green and corroded from the elements. (Doesn't effect performance) It would be nice if Daiwa made some flat black replacement pieces for them. These are my favorite reels and I will add more as my older reels wear out. ... show more

Did a lot of research on saltwater reels for the surf and this one came up so I gave it a try and will be getting more! Incredibly smooth , very well sealed from saltwater intrusion, easy to clean and service and much lighter than all the other reels in the same category I was checking out. Great drag!! When you get the reel in your hand you can feel how well made it is, Daiwa still make some of the best reels you can buy in this reel is proof of it. These reals are more compact yet just as tough as larger reels I'm very smooth. I bought the 3000 and now I'm going to buy the 4000

Nice smooth reel. I got the 10000. Wish the drag knob had more click to it. Kinda feels like tightening a jar. All my other Daiwa’s click and feel better. Drag seems to work fine. Just wish the knob had a better feel when adjusting the drag pressure

    • Light reel with great casting distance

Overall a great reel, so far. It's a light reel (physical weight) which is great since we're on the water an average of 6 hours a day this time of year. Casting range seems to be farther than my other reels using the same rod. So far the drag has held up and both the 3000 and 2500 are doing great. The drag "sound" is pretty quiet, which is okay. We like knowing when the other person hooks up by the sound but with these reels we can't. But we know how to talk. :-) The real test will be how long they last. ... show more

Pretty much as the title says. Product was defective when received. Spinner was broken. Item was not as described and definitely not new. I returned product, and my refund was rejected. Will not buy from seller again.
