I installed a Daikin "mini-split” a/c unit in my garage. I only use it occasionally when I'm working on my car in the garage. Therefore, it only gets used in the summer months and only for a few hours at a time. After only 2 years, and an estimated 100 hours (plus or minus) of use, it developed a leak in the evaporator coil on the inside unit! I got 2 estimates to repair the unit and both came in at about $2500 (that includes a "free" coil under warranty)! Daikin refuses to do anything to help out other than to respond with a canned "cut and paste" email telling me how proud they are of their products. I bought a $400 A/C "window unit" at my previous house and it is still running great after 12 years! I figured going with a MUCH more expensive A/C system would give me better cooling and dependability. Daikin has proved me wrong! PLEASE DO NOT BUY... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. ... show more

Terrible experience for me but stilla great product.

Well I had to keep a mini split I dont need. I had a client change their mind after the mini split arrived and after found out i couldnt return it. The seller was sensible and very communicative though. There return shipping policies are fair even though thats not convenient for me lol. Our system came on a pallet. The electricians took it from there but it seems to work well. We are using as a supplement to central air in a loft space.

Cool, quiet, and economical

This is my second Daikin mini-split purchased in <1 year. I had previously purchased an 18,000 BTU unit for my garage, and this one was for a 300sqft storage unit. These are great little units. They are of the inverter-type, and thus very efficient and quiet. The installed line-set was adequate length, and it was just a matter of bending it appropriately, torquing down the flare-fittings to spec (get a torque wrench, you’ll need it), and vacuuming it all down. You’ll want to vacuum it down with a vacuum pump (do this several times) to ensure all the contaminants and humidity are out of the lineset before you release the charge. A vacuum gauge is a necessity for this work. This one replaced an older/standard compressor-type mini-split, and the difference in current draw is noticeably less.
