  • Great futon for the price
Color: Orange
I bought this 3 months ago and I've been very pleased with the purchase so far. It's very comfortable and hasn't needed any care outside of that typical for a futon (airing it out, folding it after use, etc.). The colors are a nice touch, although the orange mattress is a little lighter than it is in the picture. As other reviewers said it did have a slight smell when I first bought it. Just a raw cotton smell--nothing overly offensive. The smell was mostly gone by the second time I aired it out. ... show more

  • Great seller
Color: Red Rose Black
There was an issue with our order but the seller went above and beyond to resolve it quickly. The mattresses are plush and substantial and will be great for my niece and nephew to sleep on while visiting for Christmas.

  • My 2 years with this shikibuton
Color: Grey
I have had this shikibuton for almost 3 years. In that time there is no signs of use, there are no damages, even after hanging it outside and beating it with a broom stick biweekly. Anyone who says that the material does not last, clearly doesn't know how to care for their shikibuton. There also is no smell to it. The people who are complaining about the smell are on crack or something. I sniffed this thing as thought I were trying to snort crack or like a dog sniffs booty holes... never did I smell anything, and my scent is so sensitive that I can smell things the average person can't. I sleep great every night and never have had any complaints. So far I have tested 3 other shikibuton that have better ratings than this one here on Amazon, but so far, none have been as comfy as this one has, and I have returned all of them. I never sleep right on a shikibuton. I always have a blanket laid out on top of it. As an athlete of 10 years, and one who was dumb in his teenage years and hurt his lower back, since sleeping on this for the past 3 years all my back pain has been gone. I have a bit of a broad shoulder length and still can comfortably sleep on my side without a pillow. I can comfortably sleep in any position. I sleep on my back, stomach, and both sides without any problems. I'm one of those who spends 2-3 weeks on Amazon looking for the right product so I won't have to return it. I spent 3 weeks on this one and to this day, I would pay $200 for this one if I had to buy a second one, but I'm pretty sure this one will last me at least 5 more years... or until I get a girlfriend and would have to get a bigger one... hopefully within these next 2 years 🥺 Other shikibuton I've tested have foam and polyester inners, this one is cotton. I would not recommend foam or polyester inners because half way through your sleep, you'll be much closer to the ground than you would with cotton. The cotton also stays thicccc and fluffy all night long. If you're on the heavier side, perhaps a 4 inch would be best for you, or if you're just coming from an Americanized overly thicccccc mattress. The only downside or upside (depending how you view this) is after hanging it outside, you'll notice it is thinner towards the center and thicker on the edges because the cotton shifts a bit. It is not very much of a difference though, and after a few nights, everything from the edges will shift back to it's natural position and the thickness will be all evened out. ... show more

  • Success- exactly as expected
Color: Red Rose Black
This mattress is the way you would expect a floor type mattress to be. It is very dense and comfortable and feels as if it’s filled tightly with cotton. It seems as if it will keep its shape and you definitely do not have to worry about sinking to the floor through the night. The cover is soft semi-wide cotton weave and the colors are vibrant. I seems like a true twin size. I will put a twin sheet set on it when guest sleep on it. It also will be used for my daughter to safely nurse her baby on the floor. It has straps attached to keep it rolled up when storing it. Expect it to be bulky. I plan to fold it in half and slide under a high twin bed. I am very pleased with this floor mattress! ... show more

  • Great when used properly, but make sure you know what you're getting into
Color: Red Rose Black
I ordered this futon after ordering a different futon from Walmart. Comparing the two, this one is clearly built better and will probably last a good while with care. Some things to keep in mind: * This futon offers minimal padding. In other words, it's considered FIRM. Don't expect to use this on a bare wood floor or basic carpeting unless you REALLY like your bed extra extra firm. * Traditional Japanese futon mattresses are typically used on tatami. Tatami is expensive. Due to my previous purchase of a different futon, I'm using it between the floor and this futon and that seems to make it "perfect" for me. Consider using some kind of padding if you plan to use this on the floor. * This fits sheet size twin XL, but you can use a full sheet as well, it will just be a lot looser (I'm using a full fitted sheet on mine until I get around to buying a twin XL fitted sheet). Pros: * Seems to be made well. Should last a while. * The insides don't seem to move around which is great. * Price isn't too bad. * Rolls up nice and easy for storage. * I'm 6ft and I fit on it. * Packaged well. Cons: * Shipping was a little slow (came out of California and I live in NC) but that is a FedEx problem mixed with the weekend. Don't expect it to arrive fast unless you live on the west coast. The seller, of course, did ship it out fast and I am satisfied with that. * It is kind of thin, you will need some kind of padding between it and the floor if you plan to use it on the floor unless you like super hard and firm sleeping. How much and what kind of padding depends on how you like it. * It smells odd. Not in a horrible way, but odd. Almost like burnt wood. The smell has not gone away yet, it has been a couple of days since I got it. It kind of reminds me of a woodworking shop I was in many years ago. Overall, I am satisfied. The one less star is mostly from the smell which is rather strong, and also because it took a whole week and a day to get here. Everything else I am satisfied with and/or was expecting. I finally got my padding situation sorted last night and slept like a log. I have hardwood floors. I will say it again just to make sure you, a potential customer of this product, understands: you will very likely want padding with this to go between you and the floor. I don't personally know anyone who like beds as firm as this will be directly on a hardwood floor. However, the quality of this item compared to other futon mattress options in this price range (under $100) makes it well worth it. ... show more

  • Comfortable
Color: Black
I find it very comfortable. I was a little concerned since I had slept on a foam mattress when I was volunteering in Liberia and found that to be uncomfortable. The only disadvantage is that I had hoped it would fold up smaller, but that’s more my fault. I didn’t do a good job of estimating that.
