  • Amazing. Some assembly tips- the screws fit, and how to get them in!
Color: Black
I searched everywhere for a frame and took a gamble on this cheaper one with my expectations low. I'm very impressed and I love this frame, I was able to assemble it by myself as a single not strong person. Some tips for people struggling with assembly from what I learned: You WILL NEED: -An electric drill. Magnetic bits help. -A clamp, if assembling alone. -Pliers, to hold the nuts still while tightening screws The wood screws DO fit in the frame panels but you need to have the frame laid flat on the floor and put all your weight on your drill to drive them in. Don't try it any other way, it's impossible. You will need a clamp to align and hold some pieces together while screwing if you're doing it without help. Another tip, ignore the instructions telling you to add the mattress holder brackets last and do that before you attach the panels to the frame as you'll also need a lot of force to drive in those screws. Definitely the best thing I've ever bought for my apartment, it's high quality, looks nice and is a perfect couch alternative if you have cats while also being able to turn into a guest bed. ... show more

  • This is working out quite well! So far I'm happy with it. So much better than what i had.
Color: Silver
The price was right. And although there are a few bad reviews, there are a lot of good ones. I also saw this frame recommended on another site that was reviewing futon frames, "The Sleep Judge." It was #5, but number 1 was too expensive, number 2 was another DHP frame that wouldn't work for me, number 3 and number 4 were twin size chairs and expensive, and then there was this one. So when i saw it went on sale, i got it. I'm glad I did. It's working out well. It took a while to put together, but i would not say it was difficult. There were a lot of screws. Just stay organized about it. (I used my own hex tool which made it a bit easier) There was one part where the picture didn't match very well to the product, and I ended up having to redo something, but it didn't take long. Just pay really close attention to the drawings. Because this futon frame is lightweight, I would not suggest it for anyone who might be giving it a lot of punishment. I would also suggest, contrary to what the top reviewer says, do not use a power screwdriver unless you are very careful. I had no problem using a regular screwdriver to install all the screws. They do say that when the futon is pulled out in bed mode not to sit or lie on the very edge. I would say that would be more of a problem for a heavier person, but it's an issue of balance. Since they don't know the weight of the person purchasing it, they make the warning. (again, this is a lightweight frame.) If you have a thick futon mattress with coils/foam that doesn't fold easily, then there is a learning curve to getting this to go back into the couch position. At first i thought I would never be able to do it. (I still would have been better off than the old frame I had). But after some experimenting and practice, I can get it folded every day in a matter of seconds and I'm a 5 foot 4 inch woman. You need to stand on the side of the futon where the arm rest is. Grab the top of the "backrest" part of the mattress and push it forward like your pushing the mattress into a folded position, then grab the seat part of the frame and pull up toward the "backrest" part of the mattress. If this doesn't pop the frame into couch position, then let go of the mattress and grab the "backrest" part of the frame and pull it toward the "seat" part of the frame so the seat and backrest of the frame are forming a "V", then rock the whole thing forward (toward the seat side) and it should fall into position. It works for me every day. ... show more

  • good futon, bad instructions
Color: Black
This is a great futon: sturdy, comfortable, stylish. It feels a little springy underneath your weight which is nice. The only reason I won't give 5 stars is that the assembly instructions are confusing. I'll try to describe the problem although I've thrown them away: In step #6 you are instructed to affix support bars to the seat and the back. Then, step #7 tells you to affix support bars to the seat or possibly the back with a different set of nut-and-bolt connectors. But, having followed the instructions in step #6, all my support bars were attached by the time I got to step #7 so I was confused. Near as I can figure it doesn't matter which set of nuts and bolts you use to connect support bars to the seat or back -- they will be solid either way. My advice to the manufacturer is to ELIMINATE STEP 7 -- just cut it out entirely and renumber the rest of the steps. And, toss out the "special" nut and bolt connectors they want you to use with one of the two seat/back platforms in step #7; as far as I can tell this was an aesthetic judgement and I think (I hope) that it doesn't matter which you use, in terms of stability. We shall find out I guess! Anyway...it's a lovely futon but the documentation is bad. ... show more
