  • Um, The "Sheerness" Is Fine?
Style: Soprano Size: M7
I ordered this mouthpiece on Amazon to use on a Lazarro soprano I also bought on Amazon. It arrived very quickly and makes the horn sound and play a lot better. I haven't played Rico mouthpieces before, but saw many people online recommending it for the brightness and low cost. It allows me to get the high notes on the Lazarro soprano to play, which wasn't possible with the generic mouthpiece that came with the horn. I'm using it with a Rovner dark R1RVS soprano ligature, which fits it fine. On product features I gave it a 5 in the category of "value for money". Not sure why "Thickness" and "Sheerness" are suggested categories they asked me to rate, but I gave it a 3 for thickness and a 3 for sheerness, because... huh? Anyway, I like it fine. Mouthpieces are personal of course, everybody likes a different sound and response. This one has quite a high baffle, which I like. I bought the one with the M7 opening, using softer reeds and the sound on soprano is pretty decent, reedy and warm. It's a high quality piece at a really reasonable price. I don't really like the grey color, but I'm living with it. ... show more

  • Good deal
Style: Soprano Size: M7
Very good mouthpiece for the price. Has very full sound, plays the registers well and doesn’t need strong reeds to play well.

  • It's worth a Try
Style: Soprano Size: M7
First, I've been playing woodwinds off and on for about 25 years. I'm not the best, but I do know what a tone sound feels and sounds like. I am mostly playing on an Alto: Jody Jazz 8, Rico Royal 3.0. (sometimes I'll use a Meyer 7). Just got a new soprano, so I was looking for a comfortable mouthpiece, didn't want to spend a ton. I decided to give this Rico a try. Reasonably priced (around $40). Well, it's a decent enough mouthpiece I'm sure, but it wasn't for me. If you look inside the face of the mouthpiece, the inside throat (chamber) is very closed. I wasn't getting a consistent sound throughout the register of the instrument, Lower notes were cracking on me. Again, I'm sure the mouthpiece is a winner for many other players, but the very narrow chamber was not giving me a full sound I was used to. I decided to spend a bit more and bought a E.Rousseau Jazz 7. I also reduced my reed size from 3.0 to 2.5 (which may have been my issue with the rico). In any event, I say give it a try, it's reasonably priced. You can always return it. Why spend hundreds if this mouthpiece for about $40 can get the job done? ... show more

  • Do not recommend for beginners.
Style: Soprano Size: M7
If you like bright, metallic-sounding mouthpieces, you should give this one a try. But bear in mind, this mouthpiece is not for beginners. The tip opening is wide. You will get a lot of sqweaks and honks and it will be difficult to hit notes in the lower register. This is definitely for people with developed embouchure. ... show more

  • I can't believe this mouthpiece is so great being so cheaply priced
Style: Soprano Size: M7
I can't believe this mouthpiece is so great being so cheaply priced. This mouthpiece has a really high three-step baffle and lets me hit through altissimo A on soprano which is a very high note. It responds similar to a soprano Dukoff D7 which I also play. This is the cheapest high quality soprano mouthpiece available period. Being only 20, 25 dollars this is a very worthy backup mouthpiece, but I have enjoyed it so much I have been playing it more than my Dukoff here lately. Absolutely love it and would recommend to someone looking for an inexpensive jazz mouthpiece or a really good backup that won't break the bank. ... show more

  • New life for my saxophone!!
Style: Soprano Size: M7
I have had my soprano saxophone since 2011 and have been using the stock mouthpiece that came with it. Needing a new sound, I began to read reviews on mouthpieces and finally decided to go with this one. I was very shocked at how much better I sound using this mouthpiece! My saxophone now has a bright and loud tone because of the Rico Metalite! This is a great mouthpiece for the money and I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Very Good Sound Quality.
Style: Soprano Size: M7
Have been trying several mouthpieces, this one, Selmers, and a Yamaha. I have played alto, but tonal control is not as easy on the soprano. I find this has a great vibrational sound and it is easy to play in tune. Presently using a 1.5 cane reed, and will try a 2.0 and higher to see if it darkens things. I am using a simple Rovner ligature. Anyhow, give it a try. Reasonable price. ... show more

  • Excellent product, especially for the price.
Style: Soprano Size: M7
Sounds almost as good as the Vandoren Jumbo Java it imitates. It isn't a nice color and it feels cheap to the fingers but at 1/4 the price of the Jumbo Java it was a great deal. Especially since they don't make Jumbo Java for soprano sax. I'm very happy with this purchase.
