I used Ernie Balls for years then for some reason transitioned to D-Addario on one of my guitars. They are nice strings with a bright sound, but I find they don't last as long as the EB Super Slinky strings, and prefer the latter overall for feel and my style of playing. Of course all that is highly subjective so it doesn't mean much. Any new set of strings is better than the set you're removing, and I can see why some people would favor D'Addario.     • Stretch them before playing

I just installed them on. So far they feel very slick and smooth. Make sure to stretch your stings after installing to maximize being in tune. G B E stings feel like they are coated with some kinda smooth material but I can be wrong because I oiled up my guitar before putting on the strings. Even if they are coated with something they play smooth and so far I like how they feel. Lengthwise they are good too. As I was adjusting the strings I heard a crack and thought one string broke but so far everything is intact. D'Adarrio might cost a few bucks more than most of their competitors, but you're getting quality and a sound that will make you smile everytime you string up again. I've been a loyal D'Addario fan for over 20 years and they are always my Go-To for strings for any gauge I might need or want to try out. These strings are perfect for metal/rock/jazz and detuned tunings like drop C. Also, their customer service is amazing and their loyalty program is awesome since you can earn points for free strings or other music related items. These Strings are higher end and have a nice ring to them which makes my instrument sound much brighter, I use lots of different sets of strings on my different guitars, Daddario strings generally give me a nice sound for a price that wont break the bank..

After trying 10s for a year and never getting happy with them, I went back to 9s with my old reliable D'Addario XLs, but this was my first time trying the Balanced Tensions. These make bending as close to effortless as anything you'll find. These are awesome!

I have used these same strings for close to 30 years. IMO, they are just the right string for the styles of music that I play. Not too bright, not too dark. I find stainless strings to be too "zingy" for me, and they wear frets much faster. Pure nickel-wound strings sound too dull. These are the best of both worlds. I honestly cannot remember having a bad D'Addario string, and I worked in guitar shops for many years putting these very strings on other people's guitars. I think that they are the standard to which I measure all other strings. ... show more
