  • What a pleasure to play
Style: Light
I am not a pro musician, I'm a piano player at best but I do play acoustic, electric and bass guitar and limit to basic riffs with my son who is also a piano student. I have a cheap basic bass guitar that I picked up few years ago at local music shop. It played well but I always struggled with buzzing and having to really work at plucking. Changed out for EXL lights. Wow. It is such a pleasure to play now - the touch is soft, you don't have to really work at plucking now, you can just relax and enjoy playing the instrument. They are bright, that's for sure. ... show more

  • Great strings!
Style: Super Light
Try a couple packs of Balanced Tension: They do feel different, and that's the point! We're never going back! Don't forget to recycle your strings through the D'Addario program! And you can donate the proceeds to the D'Addario music scholarship program. Great American company!

  • The best sounding bass string ever
Style: Medium
I love these strings, hands down the best strings tone wise and longevity. They are bright and responsive. I have 3 bass guitars, I have these strings on my B and C basses and I also use a lighter gauge for my D tuned guitar. I’ve used all kinds of string brands from Dunlop, Ernie ball, GHS, and many more, none have delivered the tone and longevity that Daddario delivers. Another note is these strings are on the cheaper side of bass strings so another win. ... show more

  • Good for someone not knowing exactly what they like
Style: Light
I'm not primarily a bass player and I have limited experience in this area, but I got a set of these a year ago and they still haven't gone dead. I bought these thinking the old strings were due for a replacement but there doesn't seem to be an urgent need. I think they're a pretty good all-around string that can handle a variety of styles in the hands of a novice. The price was right, often less than half of other strings I considered. Feel is nice, and while not as comfy as a flat wound string they weren't terrible either. I use "Finger Ease" which helps eliminate a lot of the abrasion of round wound strings. While I have nothing to compare these strings to, they didn't really have me wanting to change them for something else. I think these would be a good place for someone contemplating new strings and not knowing what to buy. ... show more

  • Pretty good nickel wound bass strings
Style: Medium
I've never had an 'E' string at .120. It looks like a lead pipe. I strung up my '86 Warwick Thumb Bass with these monsters to see if I really wanted to go back to flats. It's too early to tell. Having used .045-.105 for this bass and most others the .050-.120 gives my left (fretting) hand a good work out. And I had to tweak the Adjust-a-Nut and bridge a bit but no big deal. They are bright given the gauges and time will tell if I keep them on. But for $16 it's a good deal so far. ... show more

  • Great roundwounds, balanced tension is where it's at
Style: Light
I love the balanced tension sets that D'addario puts out - the output on each string is much more consistent and the feel of the strings is consistent too. It was a huge pet peeve of mine when my E and A strings would boom out while the D & G sounded thin and lifeless. This set solves that problem! I dig the way the nickels age too. They start out fairly bright (not as much as SS) and gradually settle into a nice balance of clank and beef that lasts through a fair amount of playing time, depending on the composition of your hands/sweat. ... show more

  • Bright and Punchy. Great strings.
Style: Light
I had the same set of Power Slinky strings for years. I liked them, but they had become dull and flat. I decided to try the D'Addario strings. I love them. They have a good feel when playing and the tone is incredible. A good punch when plucked and a solid, lasting bass. Nice.

  • HUGE e string
Style: Medium
Even though these say “medium”, the e string is GIGANTIC and will not fit most basses without enlargening the nut slot. They do sound good, thunderous, actually, but this should be noted clearly that the e string is extremely large, (lest anyone take “medium” to mean “average” in this case).
