  • My favorite string for over 51 years.
Style: 3-Pack Size: Extra Light, 10-47
I am 59 years old this year and have been playing guitar since I was 8. I have tried every string on the market and I always come back to these D'addario's. And kick my self in the butt for trying something new. I have been a Master Luther for more than 30 years and set all my acoustic guitars weather they are 6 string or 12 string guitars to use these strings in this gauge. It has taken me all this time to learn my lesson. Stick with the best and screw the rest. They sound incredible, last forever. They are easy on the fingers and bend notes high and crisp. I love them. I do, I do! ... show more

  • Feels too rough on my spoiled Elixir accustomed hands
Style: 3-Pack Size: Medium, 13-56
In my five years of playing my acoustic/electric Ovation Applause, I've always used Elixir Strings Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings w/NANOWEB Coating, simply because it was the first set I started with and I liked them. Well, I decided to give D'Addario a shot a couple months ago, since they're cheaper, and I seriously regret it. I'm not some guitar aficionado, so yeah, their tone and all the other fancy sound stuff is fine - they sounded a bit more hollow to me than my Elixir strings did, but not a huge turn-off. The thing I really don't like is the roughness. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the Elixir strings, but every time a finger slides just a wee bit on these D'Addario string, I cringe. Some people may like that sound (a friend who doesn't play said she really enjoys the exaggerated sliding sounds), but for me, the kicker is how it feels on my fingers. I just don't like it. For all my complaining, I'm not going to give these strings a one-star review though, because I think my problem with them is more personal preference then some actual quality issue. ... show more

  • These stink
Style: 3-Pack Size: Medium, 13-56
I was a D'Addario loyalist for over 20 years. Over time I started to realize they just weren't the same. They started dying and then breaking sooner and sooner, and they just would not stay in tune. Having used the same string for so long, I even went so far as to call D'Addario to see if I could figure out what was going on. They brushed me off and told me it was my guitar, not their string. So, cheaper to buy different string brands then a new guitar, and I started experimenting. Turns out it was the strings, and not my guitar. But, fast forward a few years and I did get a new guitar. A really nice one. And, on a whim, I bought some of the D'Addario's just to see. Well, 5 sets of strings out of 6 and the jury is in. The strings stink. They sound good for about an hour worth of play time, they absolutely will not stay in tune, and then they break after a few sessions. I'm wavering on whether to use the last set of D'Addarios that I have, or just move on now. Either way, I'm done with D'Addario. ... show more

  • a solid 3
Style: 1-Pack Size: Extra Light, 10-47
I don't think these strings can withstand long plucking. Nor do I feel that they gave me the sound I was going for, which was troubling due to the price.

  • The 3rd (G) string is "wound", not plain.
Style: 1-Pack Size: Custom Light, 11-52
I bought these strings based on the many positive reviews. After installing them on my moderately low-priced Martin, I immediately noticed how nice they sound. They are bright and clear, but not TOO bright. When you strum hard, they have some bite. If you pick softly, they calm down and sound more mellow but still have a little brightness. I really like these strings, but I wasn't prepared for the 3rd string to be "wound" like the 4th, 5th and 6th strings are. Hence, the only strings that are plain metal are the 1st and 2nd strings. This is something new for me. But, I'm already getting used to it. If they last me for a while, I will buy them again. ... show more

  • I went extra light mainly for the feel and easy bending.
Style: 1-Pack Size: Extra Light, 10-47
They sound good, feel good, and look good! What else is there? Oh, they make me happy. :-)

  • Really like these strings.
Style: 1-Pack Size: Light, 12-53
I think these are a 5 star string. They compare nicely to Martin Acoustic SP but have a little bit more mids and a tiny bit less bass. Very organic, not overly compressed like Elixirs (which is what I mainly have used the last 10 years!) They sound balanced strummed or plucked on my 000-15m, not too twangy and right in the sweet spot for brilliance. They also seem to carry a note / sustain better than other strings I've used in a very good way, unless my mind is playing tricks on me. I like and dislike the packaging at the same time - it's cool that all the strings come in one bag and it takes up very little room, but the first couple of times you end up spending time deciphering the color coded strings instead of looking at them by number, and they wrap two strings at a time. I tried EXPs a few times before and thought they were terrible, odd how much better these strings are! ... show more

  • Great Strings Hands Down
Style: 1-Pack Size: Light, 12-53
Great strings. Really, I think these are pretty good "go to" strings for just about anybody of any caliber on virtually any acoustic guitar. They strung nicely, broke in quickly (about a day), and feel really nice. The sound of these strings is phenomenal. Bright and clear. Good resonance. If you are looking for light strings, these are them. The only other things I would suggest to consider, which would be merely preference are: Do you want a coated string? Coated cost more, but last longer. The sound is not as vibrant though. But if you like them consider the coated version (EXP16). Do you want light strings? These diameters are as stated in the description: Plain Steel .012, .016, Phosphor Bronze Wound .024, .032, .042, .053 The Medium (EJ17) are: Plain Steel .013, .017, Phosphor Bronze Wound .026, .035, .045, .056 It is so slight but it feels much different. (of course there are heavy and extra light options too) Really, that is it. Determine your preference for thickness and coatings, then grab the D'Addario model that meets that criteria. You are set. ... show more
