OK, so I have been playing bass since 1985 (yeah, I get it - I'm old). I have tried just about every string type and manufacturer you can imagine in that time. I have played hundreds and hundreds of gigs. I have developed some very particular likes and dislikes where equipment is concerned. In recent years, I have pretty consistently played D'Addario nickel bass strings. They sound great, tend to last a long time, resist breakage, stay in tune, and are very affordable. I have generally resisted using coated strings, concerned that the coating(s) might dull the tone unacceptably right out of the package. I need not have worried in this case. This set has the bright, zingy tone consistent with nickel strings - if the coating dulled the brilliance, it wasn't enough to detect. I can attest that the feel of these strings is a little different from conventional roundwounds - they feel "softer" - less abrasive on your fingers. They manage to do this without sacrificing texture in a way that would reduce your grip on the strings for pull-offs or tapping. I installed these on my 1986 Yamaha BB300 bass - as is typical of D'Addario strings in general, these tune up to pitch and stay there (it's not unusual for me to open my bass case after a few weeks of playing a different bass only to find that it's still very much in tune - this is true even with a Hipshot D-tuner on the low E string). These strings are holding pitch in the same way - after they fully seat and stretch out, the tuning is rock-solid. Uncoated D'Addario strings last for months under normal playing, so I anticipate these will go a much longer time. Realistically, there are two major factors in string longevity - filth and physical damage/changes. The second factor is what it is, and there isn't much that can be done about it - strings stretch out, windings flatten against frets, the string's core stretches and thins in odd ways. This all affects tuning, harmonics, and sustain adversely. The first factor, dirt/skin oils/etc., is something the coating is designed to combat. WAY back in the day, we would remove our strings and boil them briefly to "cook" the dirt and oils out of the windings, then reinstall them to get another couple of weeks of brighter tone. The coating on these strings should reduce the buildup of oils and dirt in the windings, helping the string stay brighter longer - no boiling required. All in all - these are a fantastic choice for both working and casual players - for the working bassist, these will last longer under regular gigging; for the casual player, these will stay fresher in the case longer even if you're not playing often. If there is a downside to these strings, I can't find it. Highly recommend.

Excellent base strings! I am not really a bass player , I am a guitar player. So I definitely don't know everything there is to know about base and strings. But I didn't know D'addario makes some of the best strings and other accessories on the market. When I saw all these, I knew it was a no-brainer to restring my cheap old Ibanez base. They are great strings, they're coated so not everybody likes that I don't use coated string strings on my guitar. But being that I have a base that I pick up once or twice a year and these are probably the perfect strings for me. Since they'll last longer than uncoded strings. My old strings were rusty. They are excellent quality. They definitely sound good on my base. It did not take long at all to stretch them out and get them all in tune I've been playing with D'Addario guitar strings for years and they've never let me down. Just like these base strings they are in great quality. They sound great and I'm sure that these will last for years to come. They're good price and they feel good under my fingers extremely high-quality. This is the best of the best in my opinion if you're playing base, especially if you're a beginner these are the perfect springs being coded. They're a little bit easier on your fingers and if you happen to put your base down for six months, they're not likely to rust. They're perfect for the part-time baits player and excellent for the everyday base player. I highly recommend this product. These are the best strings on the market.

New to the XS line, D'Addario is gaining praise online from Elixir and Cobalt users who have switched. Guitarists are loving them for their tone and and smooth feel, making them a top choice for 6-string guitarists. While bass players may want to test them first, these are a strong alternative to other coated or uncoated strings for many guitarists. I found that the coating was barely noticeable, and there was no "squeakiness" experienced with other coated strings. So, those in very humid conditions could benefit greatly by having strings that won't corrode but still be very much like playing uncoated strings. They do take a little getting used to, but I liked the result. And buying from Amazon means free returns if they don't work for you. But I'm guessing you'll keep them. Recommended. My rating system: ⭐️1 star — I don't recommend it at all. Poor quality. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars — I don't recommend it: has multiple faults, or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars — It's passable: it has some faults, but the quality is ok for what it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars — Product quite acceptable, and it does what it promises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars — Product that I totally recommend.
