I Tried these strings on my 1980"s Peavey, and they sounded great. I like them so much I replace the strings on my 1964 Fender. I would recommend theses strings to anyone to try. PS I used the 45-100

  • Brightest Nickels. Top notch quality.
I've spent an uncomfortable amount of money on bass strings in the attempt to find the perfect set for me. Of course, the assessment of what is best depends on which bass I'm putting these on, but the quality of these strings is truly top notch in any application. I have them now on my 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 (EXL 170 set) and I don't think I'll need to search any further. They provide the perfect balance of tension (in fact, D'Addario gives you all the tension specs... if that helps you) and contribute faithfully to the distinct Ric sound that one would expect from these basses. Of all the Nickel plated strings I have tested, these are by far the brightest. They produce excellent high/mid-high tones without the excessive "clangyness" that some steel strings can exhibit. The low-end punch isn't left out either. You also get the benefit of the softer feel of nickel on your fingers, and they're a bit easier on the frets. Give these a try! You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Good roundwound strings
I've mainly used Dean Markley Cryogenic Blue Steels and Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, but a Dean Edge 3 Bass I purchased came with these strings and they sounded great. So I've left them on and as time has gone by I purchased more to try on my ESP/LTD and Schecter basses. Now that Blue Steels seem hard to come by these are becoming my main strings, except on Stingrays which I still use Super Slinkys. ... show more

  • Good strings, from what I've heard.
I bought this set as an extra set for emergency in case a string goes bad, but will put them on soon, I'm sure.

  • Pretty good.
Not as bright as I'd like but still really good.

  • I love these and use them on all my basses
I have a Jazz bass, Spector, and 2 different Stingrays with different neck widths. I use these on all of them and they sound incredible, feel incredible, and last well. I've tried numerous brands/gauges of roundwounds over the years but the EXL170 are the ones I always come back to.

  • Quality
On my 4 string Ibanez that’s exactly the sound and feel I was looking for. Everybody has different needs but these are fantastic
Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024 by I can’t believe how good these string sound and feel. They aren’t a heavy gauge yet not too light ( for me ) I’ll be buying these again for sure

  • D'Addario XL Nickel Bass Strings - EXL170 - 45-100 Regular Light for 4-String Bass Guitars
Have used the bass strings in the past and really liked them. I have had some flat wound strings on my bass for some time, and kinda got tired of the dead sound they have. The round wounds have a much brighter sound. I have had good luck with D'Addario strings on both bass and acoustic guitars. These bass strings are on the light end and are great to play on. As light gauge as they are, they still have a great sustain to them. Would recommend! ... show more
