  • Highly Recommend Trying a Set
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 32-130 (6-String)
This is the first set of D'Addario bass string I've put on my mass in decades. I tried a set early in my career and they were so bad I said I would never buy another set of D'Addarios. However, I have been looking for a different set of string, and after much research, I narrowed it down to two sets of strings, and this was one of them. I just put them on my Zon Legacy Elite 6 and was very pleased. They are extremely consistent in tone quality from the lowest B to the highest c, and the overtones ring clear. They are capable of numerous colors from over the fingerboard (big warm round colors with much fundamental) in various locations until you reach the bridge (with tight punchy midrange sounds), and work equally well playing with your thumb, fingers and a pick. They are also extremely responsive for slap, tap and hammer ons/offs. The scratchy surface noise from the fingers moving around on the round-round strings is much less than many others. I did not review longevity because I just took put them on today and took for them for an extensive test drive. Right out of the box they are among my favorite sets of 6-string bass strings. ... show more

  • Bright but not raspy
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 45-100
Finding the perfect string seems like a lifetime process. I prefer roundwounds on my Precision bass since I don't play Motown style, but at the same time I didn't want anything that was too bright or raspy. I've found some roundwounds (especially the ones with a round core) have a raspy high-end to them that never seems to go away. I had been using the DR Pure Blues but decided to go with the D'Addario hex core rounds because I know that hex cores are mellower sounding. I have tried the DR LO-Riders, but they were just a little too mellow for me, and also too stiff. These D'Addario medium lights are livelier sounding and bright but without the raspiness of the DR Pure Blues. Another thing I like about these strings is that while they are hex core, they don't have the stiffness or high tension you would expect with a hex core. They are very comfortable on the fingers. It's funny. When I first started playing the bass I used D'Addario flatwounds, and now after trying almost every string in the book, I've gone full circle back to the D'Addarios. I think they really are a superior string. ... show more

  • Great pics for people with clean and sharp attack.
Style: Short Scale Size: Light, 45-100
these are pretty much the only pics I use. When I was younger I used to prefer the small gym Dunlop three jazz picks because they gave me a great deal of control and expression. I upgraded to these larger pics when an accident caused numbness in my thumb and made it harder for me to keep the smaller pics in my hand. The numbness is gone from my thumb but I have stuck with these pics just because they’re easier to hold onto. Dunlop III picks last forever, but these are just easier to hold onto. ... show more

  • Very bright, nice for slap and strumming.
Style: Long Scale Size: Super Light, 40-95
These strings are extremely bright, they are not great for pick or fingerstyle, however these things are KILLER for slap and strumming, particularly Primus songs.
