  • These are the best strings in terms of quality, price, and sound.
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 45-100 (2-Pack)
Personal opinion: These are the best strings in terms of quality, price, and sound. You don't need anything more. Don't be swayed by the extra features that marketing often tries to sell you, which don't actually provide a substantial improvement. I'm saying this with over 25 years of experience.

  • My acoustic bass sounds stunning with these. way better that bronze
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-135 (5-String)
I ordered a "damaged package" 5 string set for my electric bass BUT I was shipped a package that had a preinstalled Low B string. It was coiled on the end and i guess they don't know you cant reinstall strings twice or they snap. no two basses are alike. That being said the bottom 4 strings were new and the price i got was great so i kept them anyways and installed the bottom 4 strings on my acoustic bass. I usually use bronze strings but WOW these really brought it to life. 50-105 on an acoustic bass sounds great. nice projection, crisp punch yet nice lows. The acoustic bass even has a nice slap. I'm definitely happy with the results and I'm glad i kept them. You cant beat D'Addario, they rarely ever break. Besides bass, I use them on my electric guitars, classical guitars and acoustics as well. I play many many styles as a studio musician and they have never let me down. ... show more

  • Working great for 5 string strung e on the bottom
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 32-130 (6-String)
I bought a 5 string bass to add chords above the 12th fret to a traditional bottom. The bass came with a set of strings low B- high C. I used this set of strings, put aside low B, and had it string low E (105 gauge) to high B (32 gauge). A440 store, Great Bend KS put the strings on, dressed the frets, and voice instrument. Playing into the store Gallen Krueger bass amp the typical bass notes had great bottom. Everything else including the chords above the 12th fret had rich but clear voice. A440 had never done this before, but I think did a great job. The bench tech called it a "high 5" set. I like that better than calling it a bass "tenor" tuning. I can hardly wait to put it into my full range powered speakers. ... show more

  • I love these and use them on all my basses
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 45-100
I have a Jazz bass, Spector, and 2 different Stingrays with different neck widths. I use these on all of them and they sound incredible, feel incredible, and last well. I've tried numerous brands/gauges of roundwounds over the years but the EXL170 are the ones I always come back to.

  • Sounds great
Style: Short Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I love the strings but I ordered short scale but received long scale, I used them anyway. Order came a day early! Gave it a 4 star because of wrong length.

  • Dependable great sounding strings.
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 45-130 (5-String)
These are stings I feel you're not supposed to like. Thing is, I keep coming back to them. They are everywhere and they are inexpensive compared to other comparable strings. They feel good, you know what they will sound like and about how long they will last for you. I am using the balanced tension 4 string set on my Spector LX4, they are fantastic. The strings I just bought here on Amazon are the XL170 5 string set for my Spector LX5. That bass is 35 scale and the normal "long scale" strings fit as they should. They are also great, but if I had one criticism it's the B and E string gauge. Most sets in this range are .105 for E and .125 or .130 for B. Here you get .100 for E and .130 for the B. It seems an odd jump and I suspect it has to do with keeping a tight sounding B while attempting to balance tension across the set. That's probably good on a 34 scale bass, but it would be cool to offer a more traditional .105 and .125 set if you have a 35 scale. In any case, it's not somthign that I'm conscious of when playing, just a bit of OCD and the B does rock at .130, but it also does for any strings I've tried at .125 on the 35 scale. Maybe something for 5 string similar to the balanced tension set offered for 4 string. That set has the E string at .107. That may pair pretty well with a .130 B. ... show more

  • Good roundwound strings
Style: Long Scale Size: Light, 45-100
I've mainly used Dean Markley Cryogenic Blue Steels and Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, but a Dean Edge 3 Bass I purchased came with these strings and they sounded great. So I've left them on and as time has gone by I purchased more to try on my ESP/LTD and Schecter basses. Now that Blue Steels seem hard to come by these are becoming my main strings, except on Stingrays which I still use Super Slinkys. ... show more

  • Better!
Style: Short Scale Size: Light, 45-100
This brand is so much better than what came with the guitar. No more breakage. Fair price. Produces sounds wanted.
