  • Save your money
The “webbing” is more like the string you’d find on a balloon at the carnival. It doesn’t unwind as you climb. Very poor craftsmanship. Immediately returned…

For years I've been using a soft climbing rope length to hoist my gear up into the treestand. It works just fine. The only gripe is that I often have to untangle it and it takes up a bit of space in my already full pack. The CYDW Treestand Gear Hoist is a wonderful alternative and is now replacing my old rope hoist solution. Small, lightweight, compact, very quiet, belt clip included, long webbing (30ft) - all good stuff and all sort of required for a stand hunter. The one thing I'm not crazy about is the carabiner/clip that is on the equipment end. It's ok, but feels a bit cheap and is basically just tied onto the webbing. Easy to fix with a replacement clip if desired. Says it'll hold up to 60 pounds. I'm probably not going to test that much weight. But it handled about 20lbs of my gear no problem. It'll sort of "self unwind" as you climb. But the first couple of tries are stiff so you may want to do a couple test pull out/rewinds before heading out for the season. But once all the webbing out, you just crank it back up. Works fine and is pretty quiet. Although this one area my old rope wins, it's basically zero noise other than me moving. At any rate, this is a very nice alternative that works well. The size and convenience are reason enough for me to make it the solution for this season. ... show more

  • Better than the string version, but also more of a budget item compared to more expensive ones.
This works well for getting your gear up into a tree stand. You hook it onto your gear, climb up, and then pull it up. Then you can reel up the tape so it doesn't get tangled or in the way. Overall this is a great concept, and this is a decent product. This is a little lower priced than a different version, but the quality is also a little lower. But it is still a good product. The tape is VERY long, so you will be able to use this getting up very high. The tape itself is decent, and should hold up for many excursions. It has a decent thickness without being overly bulky. It is easier to pull up than some of the string versions. The carabiner on the end is a little weak, but that is easily replaceable if you want and unless you are hauling up really heavy items it should be sufficient for most uses. The reel mechanism was smooth, but not as easy as the different brand that we also got to compare. This is made from plastic, so not something that is going to be handed down over the years, but the quality seems decent and it should be able to handle minor abuse and still last a long time. This seems to be in the lower price range for reels that use tape vs string. String versions are typically cheaper though and the pricier tape ones are just a tiny bit better. But overall for the price this is a decent option. ... show more

  • Lightweight Gear Hoist
Seems to be a really nice gear hoist, however it lacks the automatic retract function that would make it even better. Since it's marketed as an automatic gear hoist, I was thinking it would automatically retract. Going up is no problem as it pulls out as you climb, allowing you to retract the webbing once you reach your stand. Going down is a completely different story, since as you climb down the webbing doesn't retract and leaves you with a mess at the bottom, or worse gives you something to get tangled in as you climb down. Webbing seems to be strong enough for most bows or rifles and it is marketed as being able to hoist 60lb. Carabiner that is included is a lightweight carabiner, but should be heavy enough for most gear. Having this on my belt will allow me to hoist both backpack and rifle without having two lines hanging from my stand and also to use my climber without having a line always attached to the upper portion of the stand. Price point is a little on the high side considering it's not a true automatic gear hoist. I would say to save the money and buy a name brand hoist that automatically retracts to save you some headache when climbing out of the stand. ... show more

  • Should get the job done
Not the sturdiest of builds on this. All plastic with a metal belt clip. Reminds me of one of those wind up 100’ tape measures. Should get the job done, can’t say though how long it will last. Just looks like it will break very easy.

  • Not the Quality I Expected
It is what it is. Cheap but it does let you strap the device on your belt. It however doesnt feed out as you climb which makes it a pain.

  • Great item when used as intended!
This gear hoist is exactly what I was looking for. Before this I was using a long piece of para cord which would get twisted and tangled all the time! I think the key take away is when pulling your gear up into a tree you don't "reel" it up. You pull the gear up hand over hand and then reel it in once the weight it removed. You do have to keep an eye on the knot tied to the clip as it is just a hand tied knot and can loosen up. No one wants to drop a $1500 bow from any height! That could ruin the hunt quick. I haven't had this long enough to give a long term review but will update my review down the road. ... show more
