  • A New Bar for Open Worlds (Post 12/12 Patch)
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
For reference, my console is an Xbox One X (not Series X) and my TV is equipped to display games in 4K/HDR. On launch day, the game had issues processing all of the environments and would freeze up occasionally for 10-20 seconds before resuming, with complete crashes occurring after 2-3 hours of play. The game has since been patched and I no longer experience these issues. There are still bugs in the game, particularly with objects like cigarettes being stuck hanging in mid-air but the game is by and large playable. Is it perfect from a technical aspect? No. Is it at least on par or better than AAA releases from companies like Bethesda or Ubisoft? Absolutely. The game is clearly designed for Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC though; based on the issues others are experiencing I would not recommend that anyone with an Xbox One, Xbox One S, or regular PS4 purchase until the game has been patched further. For everyone else, this is the best AAA game that has been released since Red Dead Redemption 2. The environments and characters are the best I've ever seen on console and the world is more immersive than just about any other. This is one of the only games where I always drive to my next location rather than fast-traveling just so I can take in the sights. The game is definitely story-driven; this is not a Fallout: New Vegas where you can totally ignore the main story and still feel totally satisfied with your character 50 hours later (though you will easily sink 50 hours into Cyberpunk). Combat, crafting, and levelling are excellent, if not anything particularly new, and are very much like Fallout or The Outer Worlds. Once you complete Act 1, you are free to explore the city at your leisure and there are an ample number of side missions and minor activities to take on to keep you engaged. Progressing through the main story will take you to new areas and to meet new side characters, all of whom are worthwhile and none of whom outstay their welcome. There is always more to do and see and the game will keep you engrossed for hours on end. Waiting for the game to be patched further before taking the plunge is understandable and warranted. Once you do, you'll never look back. ... show more

  • This is the most fun I've has since Mass Effect.
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Standard
I've been waiting for this game since Cyberpunk was a tabletop RPG...and I have not been disapointed. Seriously, people need to quit crying about the bugs in this game-my experience so far has been stellar, to say the least. Granted, I'm a casual video game player, and I waited until patch 1.2 dropped before I purchased the game, so I was a little late to the party, but it was so worth it. This game should ahve been game of the year, but alas...we all know how that went down. But I'm here to tell you, this game, even with the issues, deserves some due respect, a lot actually, and is fun as hell. And honestly, I haven't played a game in years that didn't have a least a few glitches of one sort or another, and the only reason Cyberpunk recieved so much hate was due to the hype and the delays, etc. Playing on an Xbox One-S, FYI, and yeah, there were a couple MINOR graphics hiccups, but not nearly as bad as some rabid gamers have claimed. I experienced no frame rate issues or game-breaking bugs, only one small issue early on-two minutes on Google gave me the answer and it was stupidly simple to fix. It was the scene in the ripperdoc's clinic in Act 1 where you have to equip a certain cybernetic mod to move forward and you can't exit the inventory screen until you choose the correct item, and at first it isn't obvious what you're supposed to do. Forehead slapping ensued once I discovered the fix. Not really a bug, just something that maybe a little more playtesting could've revealed as problematic. Hardly a game-breaking bug, and I'm now deep into Act 2 with no other issues so far. The overall art direction and design is awe-inspiring; the Night city map is huge, beautiful, meticulously detailed in its construction and has a unique look all its own. I spent a lot of time just gawking at the scenery at first, talking to random street people, and listening in on conversations. It's incredibly immersive. You could spend weeks just exploring every alley and side street. An amazing variety of colorful NPC's populate the game, and it took a while before I noticed any repeats. Great voice acting, script, story, and fans of the RPG wil note how lovingly reverent this game is to the source material. The gameplay is smooth and intuitive; combat is super fun and I believe the vehicle handling is the best of any game I've ever played. And as I said I haven't experienced any frame rate drop or slowdown during combat or driving. I don't have time to get into everything that makes this game so enjoyable, but suffice to say if you're still holding out, you're doing yourself a disservice. Cyberpunk, now patched, is a remarkable game. ... show more
