  • Played like a fiddle.. only different..
Size: Size 3/4 Style: CVN-300-01
My daughter surprised me one day and said, dad i am taking orchestra. I said “atta girl, what instrument are you playing”? She said violin. I said awesome. Then she said, btw you have to buy me a violin because the school doesn’t have any. So after cussing a lil bit in my head so as not to damage her fragile young ears, i took to Amazon. I bought her a violin, case, music book, music stand etc. It’s pretty. She has to retune it a bit often but the tuner works. It’s actually a really good quality. It has made it for 2 years of school, the bus, getting banged around by a 10-12 year old and still works great! I don’t know much about it but she says it’s very easy to play. Wasn’t crazy expensive and does the job for a kid. ... show more

  • You are getting a good deal for what your are paying for
Size: Size 1/2 Style: CVN-300-01
For starters I am not an expert violin player. I purchased the full size version and the 1/2 size for my son, we are learning the violin together. I have played the guitar for years. I have played the violin for about 2 months, I have an electric violin, my son had a 1/4 size acoustic, my son grew out of his so I just got us both a new acoustic. The violin comes with d'addario strings - which sound very nice. The violin sounds nice and looks just like the picture - its obviously not hand stained - but its nice and shiny. It plays pretty well (I am obviously not the best player in the world, i don't hit the other strings too much - or at least much more than I do on other instruments). The bow feels a little heavier then ones I have used before so it takes a little getting used to that, but I don't think its a bad bow. It tunes pretty easy. I tuned both of the violins in about 5 minutes - granted I have played guitar for years so I am not new to the process of tuning string instruments but violins are MUCH harder to tune than guitars - and cheap violins often times are really hard - and then they don't stay in tune after for that long. The case is good, about what you would expect and everything they said that comes with it did. The tuner is also a metronome which is a good thing to have for a student. For the price, this is a very good violin. If I had spent 150 or 200 for this I wouldn't feel ripped off, I think the violin sounds good - and is very playable. I would recommend this to people looking to start violin, you're not spending a fortune and you're not getting a cheap violin that is very hard to tune, wont stay in tune and the bridge just makes you hit other strings all the time. The violin is a hard instrument to learn, so I wouldn't recommend spending much more that 200 dollars for a first violin in case you don't stick with it but having said that, I don't know if I would go too cheap either because if the violin is cheap and doesn't sound good and doesn't play well at all, the cheapness of the violin you're trying to learn with adds to the difficulty, this violin seems like a good medium and really they could probably charge a little more for it. Also for parents wondering how loud their kids violin will be: The violin is fairly loud, so you even with a practice mute will hear in the next room, violins are not quiet, no matter what you try - if you buy an electric silent violin which is the one I started with, its quieter but you can still hear it in the next room. Acoustic violins are a little better sounding, actually they're a lot better sounding - so just buy earplugs. ... show more

  • Good for beginners to very early intermediate players
Size: Size 3/4 Style: CVN-300-01
I bought this violin a few months after renting one. This is my review after using it for two years. It has a nice hue with the shine that many student violins typically have. The sound quality in first position is fine, although the g string is has a rusty sound. The sound in third position is mediocre, but it was impossible to produce a clear tone in fifth position. The bow is all right, but it is hard to learn techniques such as staccato and spiccato. The shoulder rest is of terrible quality since the knobs keep loosening and it falls off the violin. I never used the metronome since there are worlds better apps on your phone. The rosin was fine. Overall, this is good for beginners but hard to improve as techniques and learning become more advanced. ... show more

  • Nice violin for the price
Size: Size 1/2 Style: CVN-300-01
Update: This company has excellent customer service. They responded the same day I reported the missing shoulder rest. I received a new shoulder rest within a few days. Based on this great service I have updated my rating to 5 stars! This is my grandson's second violin. His teacher requested we move him into a 1/2 size violin. We purchased an Eastar EVA-3 1/4 violin for his first violin which was an acceptable violin until we determined that he would stick with learning the violin. The Cecilio CVN-300 is a much better sounding violin in my opinion. I would definitely consider it an upgrade to his first violin. My only complaint is that we did not receive the shoulder rest that was supposed to be a part of the package. Otherwise, would likely have given it 5 stars not because it is a perfect instrument but due to the value for the money. ... show more

  • Good violin with serious flaws
Size: Size 1/2 Style: CVN-300-01
I bought the cecilio 1/2 for my daughter who was to begin lessons fairly soon. When the violin arrived, the chin rest was broken in half. Also, there were several strings broken off of both bows (not a big deal), but still. I contacted the seller who sent a replacement chin rest which was missing the corkboard underneath to protect the violin. This was not a problem as we just peeled off the old corkboard and let the issue go. But then we noticed that the fine tuners on the tail piece were hard to adjust. Since I am no expert on tuning a violin, I left it to our tutor to tine the violin only to find out that even she could not adjust and recommends we replace the tail piece. This news has left us seriously frustrated. The violin itself is very nice looking and has great sound but if every piece needs to be replaced, is it even worth it? Perhaps we just got a bad violin? ... show more

  • Just for beginners
Size: Size 1/2 Style: CVN-300-01
The first time, I received a violin with a broken soundpost. So I had to replace it. The new violin's soundpost is fine. But the new one has a bad balance. The spacing between the strings is not constant and they are to one side. And the tailpiece is a bit tilted to the side. The sound is not bad not good. If you can change the string, the sound will be better. I recommend changing strings. My daughter had to bring a violin for her class, I don't have time to get an exchange again. So she uses the violin. I am disappointed a little. It is worth just for the price. ... show more

  • CVN-300: Wonderful sound and beautiful color for the price.
Size: Size 3/4 Style: CVN-300-01
This is the first year that my son is in band at school. Of course we got to band registration so late that all of the violins you could rent for the year were gone. I went to a music store looking for a Violin and then to Amazon. We choose the CVN-300 because we watched a music teacher review it on youtube. She played it and it sounded beautiful. The music teacher reviewer liked the CVN-100,200 & 300. But said if you can afford the CVN-300 compared to the CVN-200 you would not be sorry and that it was well worth the price difference (about $30). Before I saw the review I was all set to buy the CVN-200 but at the last minute switched to the 300 after watching the review and hearing the difference between the 200 & 300. The instrument is a beautiful color and does not look cheap. It looks exactly the same as the $400 instrument the music store was going to sell us. We could not be any happier. My sons' music teacher at school said it was a nice instrument. We are very happy that we decided to purchase the CVN-300 and would recommend it to any parent whose child may or may not play again the next year. This is a Good buy. ... show more
