I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife, but I knew she wouldn't be into assembling it. So one night I pulled it out while she was away and my 14 year old daughter helped me put it together. She really got into it, and we had two quality hours working together on it. I'd say an adult should be part of the assembly unless your kid is experienced building detailed models. There were some small parts that needed finesse. But overall the assembly went smooth. The ONLY thing we used that wasn't in the kit was some super glue. I recommend the bottle with a brush in the cap. You just need a little dab on a few of the smaller parts. Most of the kit clicks together with little wood tabs. We were impressed with the detail and the precise laser cuts. I was worried it would be low resolution printed, but all the wood pieces have a durable, detailed print that almost looks like paint. It's also not too glossy, which helps with realism. The finished product is very satisfying, with lots of details to look at. The little light is a warm white color and good for a night light. We will definitely be buying these as gifts. ... show more

Assembled this during Christmas break with my teenager. It took us roughly two hours from start to finish while watching a movie in the background. We are classic book lovers in our family and you’ll often find us perusing bookstores wherever we go. We even make it a point to find bookstores while on vacatIon to find a vintage book as a souvenir. This delightful bookshop will add a fun piece of decor to our home library. We appreciated that extras of some of the smallest pieces were included in case any broke during construction, though we didn’t need any of them. Pieces fit snuggly and were measured precisely. Glue is not included, but we already had liquid glue on hand. A pair of scissors is handy to have available, as well. Assembly instructions were clear and quality of materials were better than expected for this price point. Lighting works well and the door to replace batteries (not included) is designed with a swinging door and locking mechanism that is unique. Would purchase from this company again. ... show more

    • Such a fun kit!
I have tried so many different brands of miniature kits and have ended up abandoning them because they were too frustrating. Not this one! It went together like a dream. I was able to finish it in about 3 hours. It turned out so cute! All of the pieces are so well crafted and milled. They fit together perfectly. You will need some glue and I recommend an X-Acto knife to scrape off a few of the rough spots. But other than that, what you need is in the box. Also, the directions are a little confusing about where the touch part of the light goes, so come back and watch the videos people have posted here. It was a 5 minute, fixable problem. I would say for people 14 years or older. I couldn't be happier and highly recommend! I had so much fun, I'm off to buy their other kits! ... show more

Cute and worthy of putting together, however the light included does not light up the interior. It is too weak even with new batteries.

This one was my first book nook I’ve ever set-up and it was super straight forward!! The Owl Bookstore DIY kit was super helpful and fun. Each piece was sturdy and I never had a moment where I felt a piece couldn’t fit. It does not come with the mini craft glue pen so I just went and bought one from a Michaels or a craft store. Other than that, it is the value for the money and so beautiful! The LED addon was thrilling to set up. It’s like a mini fairy house: such a fun activity to do independently or with a group.:) ... show more

    • Better than expected
This was my first time building one of these, and let me tell you I got a little frustrated at first. For a big project with all these little pieces, I thought it was going to be harder to assemble, but it was actually pretty straightforward even though I did not read the instructions that thoroughly. Came with all the pieces, except I had to use my own glue. I used super glue, not sure why, but it helped because I broke a couple pieces while trying to assemble. I only broke it because I did not follow instructions, so just read the manual, don’t do what I did lol. This was overall super fun to do, a good way to pass time and have something gorgeous to decorate our bookshelf. It is smaller than I thought but it’s still a good size compared to my books on the shelf, and the light with the touch is magical! Seriously a five star item ... show more

What a fun project for someone that likes detail oriented crafts! My late 20s DIL is an artistic, crafty person and she enjoyed this so much. It looks adorable assembled and was surprisingly great quality. It seemed to be a good beginner project and is sturdy. She did this in lieu of a gingerbread house this year as a winter craft and no regrets :) ... show more

I thoroughly enjoyed making this owl bookstore book nook. Directions were easy to follow, the pieces are made out of pretty durable material however I did end up breaking one piece as I used a little too much force. The only thing not included in this kit is GLUE so you will need your own. I also like the blue ease of getting the light to work. In other mini kits you have to do more in depth wiring, this one all you need is to connect the wires into the battery pack and insert batteries (not included, will need to purchase AAA batteries as well) this only took me two days to complete (3 hours each day) it was so much fun to put together!
