Shortly after my husband and I purchased our house we realized, that although large, our kitchen was not set up well. I had almost no usable counter space, and that which we did have was really far away from the stove. I scoured the internet for something that would make cooking easier, but wouldn't destroy my bank account. I found this on another website for about 80.00 more, and decided to check Amazon just in case. Glad I did. Although it isn't huge, it gives me enough space to do most of my prep. I sometimes branch out to other counters if it's a particularly involved meal, but for the most part it works for me. I started keeping my most often used utensils, i.e. measuring spoons, peeler, dry measure cups etc in one drawer, and recipes in the other for quick reference. The cabinets provide ample storage space, again something we severely lacked, for all of my mixing bowls as well as my crockpot, cutting sheets a couple of cook books and my liquid measure cups (I have 4- all the way up to 4 cups). The black finish looks very sharp, and the design is a decently contemporary one. the only thing that I noticed that may detract from it, and I don't know if this is true of all stainless steel, that the occasional rust mark appears. I think it has to do with the salt I keep in the spice rack, (Side note on the spice rack, it's not terribly large, but it stores my most often used spices so I am cool with that) my husband knocks it over and it ends up on the top and I don't notice it until I go to cook and by then the mark is there. It does come off though. I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't have a lot of work area or a whole lot of space in general. It was a perfect fit. ... show more

    • Assemble Yourself No Surpises
I received the kitchen island and assembled it today. The first thing I will note is that this is heavy. After bringing it inside my apartment I felt guilty about UPS having to carry it up to my second-floor apartment. It came in three packages but the bulk of the unit is one box. One really heavy box. Second, be prepared for lots and lots of packing material. My kitchen floor looked like it had snowed inside when I was done. I filled two garbage bags with styrofoam bits and wrapping used on every item. Assembly is not complicated but there is a lot put together. Spent several hours on it but I took lots of breaks. All of the necessary parts were present along with the various types of screws and connectors. The unit includes a hex wrench but I recommend using hex screw driver to save you some time and it helps with accessing some of the recessed holes. On par with my furniture assembly skills, I installed one of the accessory shelves upside down. It was straight forward to correct but I was sure glad I had that hex wrench screw driver. You have the option to installs wheels or circular wooden feet. With the unit completely assembled I was happy that I chose the wheel option. After everything was assembled I used it right away as extra counter top space for food preparation and I was happy with my purchase. The storage capacity is okay but the two side cabinets are somewhat narrow. Having two cabinets rather than three would have provided more space for each cabinet. I am happy to recommend this kitchen island but you should be well rested beforehand and drink plenty of fluids during assembly. Well made and beautiful finish. Looks good in my kitchen and seems like it will last a good while. Not hard to put together at all, but is a bit time consuming. Take your time so you don't miss anything. You can also choose if you want to put boot legs or wheels on the base of the cart. I chose the boots because it looked more elegant. It was super easy to assemble. Every piece is marked with a number that coodinates with a pic in the manual. It does take a long time to put together, because there are so many parts.
