For the price this is a great buy! My boyfriend and I built this in about an hour and a half. (And by that, I mean mainly my boyfriend.) just put on some music and you’ll be done in no time. We used a drill to put this together as well, which I would highly recommend. We didn’t run into any issues with the wood splitting. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, though I have a few recommendations that will make putting this together a lot easier: 1. Take out all the pieces and lay them out in an organized fashion on the floor. (You don’t have to do this but it just makes it easier to grab what you need during each step) 2. You will notice that the directions tell you to put screws in the middle of the rails in step 2, but there isn’t a hole for it. Don’t worry, the instructions are very generic, so you really do not need this third screw unless you absolutely want to and planning on loading the draws with a pile of bricks. (You will understand when you have the instructions in-hand but I will add photos) 3. Follow steps 3-5 exactly. The rails are also marked with an “DL” or “DR” 4. If you want to add the two pieces on the side. DO NOT add them after Step 5. The instructions have these two pieces as steps 6, 7 and 8 but if you build it in that order step 9 will be a living hell to get on. (Not impossible, just tricky) SO, complete step 9 first by adding the middle bar, and then go back and do steps 6-8. (We took our two pieces off, to better fit or kitchen and the look we were going for) 5. Follow steps 10 and 11 exactly. 6. In step 12 you will be putting on the wheels. Note that the instructions say to use 16 of the K screws. Don’t do that, as you’ll need the other K screws for step 15. Do not let this confuse you. Simply use the small package of screws that are inside of the bag of wheels. 7. In steps 13, you really don’t need that many nails. I would just do 4-5 on each side and move on to step 14. 8. The doors. The instructions want you to attach all four of the tan “hinges” at once and then connect the doors to the cart. Yeah, don’t do that. Drill/screw in one hinge to the top of one door. Place the door in the cart by sticking the peg inside of the hole in the corner. Then take the second tan hinge and add it to the bottom peg hole without attaching it to the door yet. Once this is done, slightly open the door panel, align the bottom part of the door with the bottom hinge, and slide it in so that the holes for the screws match up. Then drill/screw in those two screws. (This will make since when you are actually building it and are at this step) Do the same for the other door. 9. Two of the wheels have locks on them. You can unlock them by flipping the notch located on the side of the actual wheel. Then you can freely move the cart around or lock it in place. Then you’re done!!!! I really wish someone would’ve gone through and made a post like this, instead of saying the directions/instructions are hard to follow. They are not, we were able to figure these tips and tricks after trial and error, so I’m hoping this post will help save you some time. :) The only thing I’m not fond of is the gap in between the doors. This is definitely on the manufacturer as I am sure so people’s doors were the perfect length for the kitchen cart. I’ll probably put a small white card board backing on the back of one of the doors so that this gap is less noticeable. Overall I absolutely love the cart and would highly recommend it. It’s the perfect counter height, and easy to paint or add a marble vinyl to the top to customize it to your kitchen. (Or wherever your putting it). Like I mentioned earlier, please use a drill if you have one, it’ll save you time, hassle and you straining your hands to turn a screwdriver. Also put on some music, it will take you at the least 45- 50 minutes. If it takes you longer, it’s okay, it’s not the end of the world. ;)

This is really like 3 3/4 stars. Everything was predrilled well. So I was able to line things up very well. It looks very nice, and was the dimensions I needed for the storage I needed (made it into a coffee station for all my makers, mugs, coffees, teas, etc...). I did not assemble the towel bar or spice rack (took up too much space for where I needed it), but worked out great. A couple of the instructions could have been a little clearer (but I was still able to figure it out), and 2 pieces lost there label (otherwise everything else was well marked with stickers). I did not have any missing pieces. The cart top and inner shelf seem very sturdy. Once wheels are attached, the cart is countertop height (otherwise will be a little lower). The only thing that is not as sturdy is the drawer bottom (You have to build the drawer, fyi). The drawer bottom is a thick cardboard, so keep what you store in the drawer light (don't overstuff), and possibly use a liner (or buy something sturdier that would work for the bottom.... don't use anything thicker than the cardboard as it has to fit in a slot in the side pieces). The packaging was messy (Styrofoam everywhere), so prepare to vacuum after. You don't need power tools, but a powered screw driver would have been more handy (my hand was sore after, but using all hand tools was doable). Keep in mind this is made of pressed wood particles with laminent. My only real complaint, was that it arrived very scuffed (no dents or scratches, but the wood print in the laminent was rubbed off). Not happy about that, but fortunately most scuffs were on the inside where you can't see. The one big scuff that was on the drawer front was the worst, but I hid it with crayon, and now you can't tell. I didn't want the hassle of returning and repackaging (packaging was somewhat flimsy to repackage), so I dealt with it. If it didn't have the scuffs, I'd have given this a 4.5 star rating. This works great for the price, just wish the laminent was better. Also, handles are plastic (that's fine with me, and they look ok.... But I know some people did not care for plastic, may want to buy your own handles to swap out). Towel bar and spice rack bar was metal, fyi. P.S. I'm just a mom with small kids, I'm not a "handy" person, I did not swear and was able to build in front of my toddler (for safety depending on your kid, you might not want to..... LOTS of pieces!). It will take a couple hours to build, not the 70 minutes they suggest. An extra set of hands is also very helpful, but I was able to build it by myself (might also be why it took longer than recommended time, but I'd still allow for extra time. Don't put it together if in a rush). Take your time when building to get the pieces where they need to go and line up. Hope that helps. I'll add pictures if I can figure it out.

Arrived with box in poor condition and styrofoam packaging inside disintegrating completely, making pretty huge mess just to get the parts out of the box. Foam bits were also stuck to the parts themselves by what seemed like static, which meant each individual part had to be cleaned before it could be used. Assembly was straightforward but annoying. One drawer roller was bent, causing the drawer to get stuck when trying to push it back in. Requires some wiggling to get it to close. The rods on the towel and spice racks fit very, very loosely and will fall out if you don’t overtighten the side panels that hold them in. Some parts requiring screws did not have pilot holes drilled, meaning screwing in hardware caused particle board to split. There were also randomly a few joins that use hex-head screws rather than Phillips head like the rest. This was annoying because you can’t exert the same downward force on a hex head due to the nature of how one must hold and turn an Allen key. As a result, the screw stops biting before pieces are completely joined, leaving some degree of freedom (loose fit). Also, the instructions for nailing in the back panel suggested 9cm between nails to ensure coverage across all four edges, but there are not nearly enough screws to make that work. Spacing is more like 15cm between nails. Finish is fine, but manufacturing tolerances are poor. The gap between the two front doors is considerable (~1.5cm) and allows a view right into the cabinets rather than being blocked by a support piece. Finally, this thing smells horrible. Adhesives that hold particle board together frequently include formaldehyde, which can off-gas a bit. But this is different, and has gone on far longer than any other quick and cheap furniture I’ve ever built. It honestly smells like tuna-fish and is still strongly noticeable even two weeks after assembly. No reason it should smell like that. Finally finally, we ordered two of these in different colors at the exact same time. One, coming via USPS, said it was scheduled for delivery, but never showed up. The other one, coming via UPS and which said it was still in transit, arrived without any indication. The first one was apparently lost(?) as neither Amazon nor USPS could tell us where it was after two weeks. Amazon processed a replacement order, but tracking is once again unavailable from Amazon and no details found from USPS, so I suspect the same thing will happen again. Also, we live in New York and the product is shipped from New Jersey. Shipping label shows the product went from NJ all the way to Indiana before being turned around to NY. Amazon is basically a logistics company, and that doesn’t seem very logical.

The cabinet has to be assembled much like cabinets you buy from Ikea however the directions were awful. The order in which they have you do things is very strange while others were just wrong. For example, putting on the drawer slides. The directions state to put it in the 3 hole area. There are only 2 holes for the slide, one in front and one in the back. There was no middle hole in the side on mine so either I needed a drill or just use the two holes. Then they have you jumping back and forth between the drawer, cabinet, and the doors for it. Step 3 was to put the handles on the doors while step 4 was to put the metal piece the magnet grabs on the back of the door. Well, if you did step 3 and put the handles on the door now you can't lay the door down flat to screw the metal piece on. The handles are plastic so I don't suggest you try laying it on the handles and since the cabinet isn't built yet, you can't even use the top leaving the handles hanging over the edge to put the metal piece on. The other thing in step 4 was to put the shelf support pins in the sides pieces of the cabinet. Remember, these cabinet pieces are still all apart and laying on the floor. Why in creation would you put the self pins in now? The darn thing isn't together and I have no ideal how high or low I need the self. I also found I used all the J screws and had too many D. I may have messed that up myself but just so you know, you can attach the handles with the D screws even though they are longer. I also found that the drawing of the drawer slides confusing if someone isn't familiar with how to put on drawer slides. I thought they could have done better with that. The cabinet itself isn't perfect. As you can see in the photo some joints aren't together well and those plastic hinges (if you want to call them hinges) leave much to be desired. At least make them out of white plastic! There is no support bar in the middle in front so make sure you have the hinges where you need them otherwise you may end up with a big gap between the two doors. Also, because there is no support on the bottom of the drawers or in the middle of the cabinet, I don't expect it to be as strong as those that do have it. On a positive note, the material used for the bottom of the drawer and the back of the cabinet is much thicker than most. I was happy to see that since it is what gives it its rigidity. All in all, this isn't some fine furniture I bought and it is the perfect size for my bathroom to store towels and a few other things. I am happy with my purchase. Oh, I almost forgot to mention. I didn't use the spice rack, towel holder on the sides like they were suppose to be. I only used the towel bar on what they would consider the wrong side because that is all I wanted. The cabinet is against another one on one side and I wanted the towel bar to hang my wet washcloth on to dry when I am done with my shower on the other. (Remember, I have mine in my bathroom.) It works out well for me like this and I am glad they made the two sides the same so it was easy to put the towel bar on the other side even though it is a bit lower on the cabinet. Tip: If you choose not to put something on you can either glue the white screw caps on to hide the holes or get some white circles that are sticky one one side and use them to cover the holes you didn't use.

I bought a Hodedah Kitchen Cart over 3 years ago. It was only about $100 so i didn’t expect it to last for years or be a great addition to my kitchen. But it is a very handy piece if furniture and i use it daily. One day i accidentally locked one of the casters so when i tried to push it out of the way the caster broke. I fixed a makeshift piece under that side figuring i would have to buy another cart. But i sent an email to the company an they responded. I only asked how i could order the part very willing to pay for it. But they sent back telling me to send certain information found in the instruction booklet along with a copy of the invoice. Luckily I ordered it from Amazon and found the invoice in my account online. Sent all that to Hodedah. They sent back saying the part would be sent to me. Nothing about cost or shipping an handling and I thought that was it. I figured I wouldn't hear from them again but in a week I got an email saying the part had been shipped. Still skeptical it took another week but they not only sent me one caster, they sent all 4. No charge. I tell you what. That is FANTASTIC service. Thank you Hodedah.

With assembly complete, the good news about this island is that the finished product looks pretty good (if you don't look too closely), and offers me the storage and counter space I needed. However, I would not recommend it and wish I'd paid more for a nicer island, based on the difficulty of assembly and the damage out of the box. My issues started when the box arrived partially open, with flakes of staticky styrofoam and sawdust all over the package and parts. None of the parts had fallen out, but I spent more than 30 minutes vacuuming up and wiping down all the parts before I could begin assembling the cart. Assembly took me about three hours by myself. The instructions were okay but could be improved, especially around some of the details related to installation of the drawer pulls. It's also easy to install parts facing the wrong way, and I double-checked after each step to make sure that the finished sides were all facing in the right direction Two screws were missing from the parts (a bag that should have had 13 only had 11), and I'm waiting on the manufacturer to send me replacements. Overall I would say it was much harder to assemble than most IKEA furniture. Although all the pre-drilled holes on my unit were correctly aligned, there were a LOT of missing pilot holes for smaller screws, and I don't know how I would have ever finished assembly without a power drill/screwdriver. In particular, the bottom panel is far too solid to insert a screw by hand, and no holes were pre-drilled for the wheels. The doors are also missing pre-drilled holes, and precise placement of these screws is critical for getting the doors to line up correctly. Finally, the island has lots of chips, scrapes, and imperfections out of the box. The countertop has a small scrape on the finish, the side panels have lots of small scuffs, and the edges look rough. I was also disappointed (but not totally surprised) to see that the handles are a gray plastic, rather than metal. I'm concerned about the long-term durability given how it looks right after assembly. Although the island turned out okay, I had considered some more expensive options and wish I'd gone with one of those since the assembly was so frustrating and the finished product already has more wear and tear than I would expect for something brand new.

We needed a dining table/storage cabinet for our townhome which has a very small dining area in the kitchen. Item arrived on time and in good condition. Opened the box and inventoried parts, nothing missing, and nothing broken. Assembly took just over an hour to complete. All parts fit together nicely, and alignment was perfect. I used glue on all of the pegs and screws for the cabinet but not on the spice rack and towel bar. It looked pretty good but there is always room for improvement. First, we removed the spice rack and towel bar. Filled in the holes with wood puddy and sanded the filler smooth. Took part of the towel rack down to the hardware store (Ace) and had them match the paint color. Had to buy a quart but the color was a perfect match. Painted over the filler and the patches disappeared. Next, we increased the height of the island which was 33 inches. We added some 2.5-inch wooden pumpkin feet (bought on Amazon) which increased it to 35.5 inches. The final big change was to the top of the island. The original measurement were 35.5 inches wide by 15.75 inches deep. Bought a 2 ft by 4 ft pine board to make a new tabletop. Cut 2.5 inches off each corner to make an octagon shape and finished the edges with baseboard molding. Sanded it down and finished it with 2 coats of Minwax Colonial Maple stain and 3 coats of clear polyacrylic. Attached the new top with1 inch L brackets on the sides and four screws through the original top into the new top from inside the cabinet, no glue so the top can be removed if need be. The dimensions of the new top are 49 inched wide and 25 inches deep, plenty of room for 4 people. One final touch was replacing the plastic door/drawer handles with brushed nickel metal handles. All in all, the original Island was of good quality and manufacturing and the price was excellent. Highly recommended.
