As a beginner, a machine like this can be intimidating but, after reading the details along with the mention of this being easy for beginners, I was excited to try the Cricut Explore 5 with the Rainbow Essential Bundle and Easy Press. The description from Cricut and videos I found online convinced me that this was a tool I could learn easily and would have a lot of fun with. My box arrived with the Cricut well protected within another box and really, very much ready to go. Everything was easy to pull out to set up for first inspections and a step-by-step guide to get started with downloading the app. The app walks you through everything and within minutes, I was able to start my first/practice piece. I can’t say enough about how good the app is in ease of use and giving you a sense of confidence; everything is very clear and sets you up for success. After making the test project, I went on to the next with choosing my own - this is where things can be overwhelming with the number of project types and the thousands and thousands of graphic options but, I started with an idea and mind and was quickly able to select my pattern option. Everything you need is here to begin creating - and perfect for the beginner, with more options available for future purchase. There is an ample amount of vinyl and card stock sheets to make several projects as you are continuing to practice and build skills. I love having the EasyPress included as I have ideas for some tee’s to make as gifts. Everything is really portable making it easy to move from room to room if necessary. Watching the speed of cutting my tester piece was fun and satisfying to see in action and how quickly it worked. The cut was perfect, no missed areas, and left a clean, easily releasable sticker. I put mine on my Cricut so I could admire my work haha! For my second sticker, I chose to do a design that would require some weeding and a bit more finesse in application - I love the results! With all of the options for projects - essentially, endless?, the ease of use, the value for having a tool that allows me to create my own unique projects, this is a great tool and one I am sorry I waited so long to get - now that I have it, and have experimented with it, my mind is endlessly coming up with ideas I want to explore. There are so many resources available via online video tutorials as well as within the app - and those that I have watched are very good - that make this so easy for the beginner and really spark the creativity. If you are new to Cricut creating like me, do NOT be afraid to jump in ~ this kit is so easy and inspiring ~ you will not regret it. 5/5 from this newbie!

Package/Unboxing: The Cricut, its tools, and sample materials were all packaged very securely and organized well. My only issue was the Machine Mat, which was too large to fit in the box without bending, so when removed from the box it still has a slight bend on it. I haven’t yet used the Mat for any crafting, so I don’t know if that curve will be a problem going forward. Materials: The Cricut comes with a variety of sample materials for different projects. Different colors of “Smart Vinyl” (which feeds into the machine directly without the Mat), Iron On fabric, card stock, and even a pre-folded greeting card are all available to get started. It also included a few sheets of Transfer Tape, which is necessary for making Vinyl decals. Setup: The setup is handled very well. First you are directed to download their Design application, which then walks you through your first project step by step. Within 20-30 minutes of opening the box, you have created and “printed” your first Vinyl decal! Hardware: In addition to the cutter, the box includes a few small hand tools (notably the Weeder and Scraper, both necessary for creating Vinyl decals). Also included are a small cutting board, a Machine Mat necessary for cutting some materials, and a Card Mat designed for making greeting cards. All the tools look to be of decent quality and should last for a long time. Software: The software is very “new user” friendly. Upon log in you are greeted with an opening page with links to projects you might want to take on, Window Decals or Iron On Patches, for example. There is a large collection of clip art for you to use, with the options to purchase art through the program or import your own. As a new user, I appreciated the guidance. As the user gets more comfortable with the process, there is a “blank canvas” option which takes off the training wheels and allows the user to get straight to work. Follow up: In the days following my first project, I received emails from Cricut encouraging me to try new ideas. Overall you get a sense that the company wants you to enjoy the product, and their relationship with you as their customer is just getting started. Overall, the Cricut impressed me as a high quality machine with decent support from the company. I have never considered myself a “crafter” but now I keep an eye open throughout the day looking for opportunities to create new projects. $249.99 at time of review ($299.99 regular price) is absolutely worth it for how versatile and compact this machine is!

I recently upgraded to a newer Cricut machine after my old one (1st gen model bought on eBay) started having some issues. I use mine mostly for making vinyl signs and mailbox lettering for friends and neighbors. My wife and her sister do scrapbooking and card making together and were looking at buying a Cricut for themselves, so I ordered this kit for them. The following is their review of the Cricut Explore 5. We were excited when the box showed up on my doorstep with a new Cricut Explore 5 machine kit! My sister and I are getting more and more into scrapbooking, making greeting cards, and invitations for showers and such. I've seen some of the signs my husband makes with the machine he has, but he never let's me use it!. I failed "cut and paste" in grade school, so hopefully this will work better than using a pen, scissors, and ruler. My sister came over and we opened up the box. We unloaded the machine and all of the accessories, and laid them all out. There is a LOT of stuff in this kit which is the point of buying it that way I guess. Besides the machine itself, there are accessories for cutting, drawing, and removing the waste material from cut projects. There is also a packet of card stock, vinyl sheets, and sticky mats that are used for the cutting and drawing process. It's really set up for some one that is new to this type of machine, and makes it easy for you to get started using it right away. To get started you install the design software and register on the Cricut site. We did this on my sisters laptop and then plugged the machine in which turned on immediately. Then we connected the machine to the laptop via Bluetooth and were ready to go! They start you out by cutting a Cricut logo into a vinyl sheet to make sure it is working correctly. The software does a good job of taking you through the steps and the result was perfect. We then tried using the pen on some card stock and it does a really nice job of drawing and calligraphy type printing. I can see using this for scrapbooking (titles and captions) or for making greeting cards and invitations. After drawing, you can cut the cards or other shapes out with the knife tool. Again, the software does walk you through the steps and if your project requires you to draw then cut, it tells you when to put the pen in and remove it. The only problem we had was with lining up the printed sections of the cards with the cut sections (see pic). The software tries to nest all of the items you are cutting so that you don't waste material, but it does so separately for the drawing and cutting operations, so they won't always line up. I asked hubby for some advice and he showed us how to select all of the items you want so that they stay aligned the way you drew them. You then use the "Attach" button on the bottom and it groups them all together so that it all prints the way it looks on the screen. Once we did that, our cards (tags really) printed exactly the way they should (see other pictures!). The tools that are included work well for removing the waste material (it's called "weeding") and attaching stock to the mats. The only thing I would recommend for someone buying a machine like this would be to purchase a brayer (roller with a handle) which makes it a lot easier to attach stock to the mat or to attach transfer tape to the vinyl. My husband has one and it makes the process of attaching card stock to the cutting mats so much easier. We are looking forward to using this machine A LOT! We've joined a scrapbooking club now and many of the members use Cricut, so we should have a lot of help as we learn to use it. We both thought it was fairly easy to use, very solidy made, and the price was good for all of the things included with the kit. I would recommend this for anyone looking to do scrapbooking or card making, just be ready to spend a little time learning how to use it to its full advantage.

I told myself I was buying this for my kids. That was a lie. This machine is absolutely for me and I have zero regrets. The bundle is genuinely well put together. The rainbow Smart Vinyl and Smart Iron-On sheets are not just a cute gimmick, the colors are vibrant and they cut cleanly without any of the weeding frustration I expected as a beginner. Having everything included out of the box meant I was actually making things the same day it arrived, which I did not anticipate. The Explore 5 itself is fast. Like, faster than I expected a cutting machine to be. It handled vinyl, iron-on, and cardstock without any fuss, and the Bluetooth connection to the Design Space app stayed stable the whole time. Setup was straightforward enough that I figured it out without touching the manual. The 100+ project eBook is where this bundle really earns its value for newcomers. I went from zero Cricut experience to making birthday decorations within a weekend. Having project ideas laid out with step-by-step guidance removed all the guesswork and honestly kept me from getting overwhelmed by Design Space at first. A couple of things to know going in: Design Space has a bit of a learning curve and some features require a Cricut Access subscription to unlock. I hate subscriptions so that's annoying to me. I also really don't like how the machine has a huge hole on the top. All of the previous models are completely enclosed. I have a toddler, cats and a baby so god forbid there's random toys or fur that gets inside the machine. I’m so impressed with the Cricut Explore 5 Rainbow Essential Bundle! This set truly has everything you need to jump right into crafting without feeling overwhelmed. The included rainbow Smart Vinyl and Smart Iron-On sheets are vibrant, high-quality, and super easy to work with, perfect for making decals, stickers, and custom shirts right out of the box. The machine itself is user-friendly and cuts cleanly and precisely. Setup was straightforward, and I was able to start my first t-shirt project in no time. The Smart materials are especially convenient since you can use them without a cutting mat, which saves time and effort. I also own the Explore 4 and while the 5 is faster and quieter, I prefer the design of the Explore 4 because the top of the machine is closed, which helps keep dust and debris from accumulating inside your machine, whereas the 5 is open on the top. I also like that there is a convenient Cricut tool holder on the top of the Explore 4. Whether you’re making personalized gifts, home decor, or small business items, this bundle is a fantastic value for anyone new to the line of Cricut products.
