I’ve been using Cricut machines for a while now (I already own a purple Explore Air 2 model), but the Cricut Explore 5 Rainbow Essential Bundle really expands what I can do creatively while making the entire setup more compact, streamlined, and beginner-friendly for new projects or quick ideas. What stands out most to me is how it enables me to create custom, one-of-a-kind items for things I simply can’t buy commercially, especially for my camper and personal style. One of the biggest reasons I wanted a setup like this is for customization projects that don’t exist in stores. For example, I can design and cut my own camper window decals, labels, and decorative vinyl graphics that match my coastal and nature-inspired aesthetic. Instead of searching endlessly for something that “almost” fits my vision, I can just design it myself. That includes everything from subtle decorative touches for my Airstream windows to more personal expressions like quotes or humorous “personal opinions” decals that reflect my personality. Having that freedom to make exactly what I want, in exactly the colors and styles I like, is the biggest advantage of this system. The Cricut Design Space software makes this process accessible even when I don’t feel like starting from scratch. The fact that it’s free to download and use is a huge benefit, especially since it already includes a large library: over 3,000 images, 100+ fonts, and more than 1,000 guided projects, plus hundreds of additional tutorials. That gives me a lot of flexibility depending on whether I want to design something fully custom or follow a structured project. I also like that there’s an optional subscription (Cricut Access), but it isn’t required, so I can still create meaningful projects without ongoing costs beyond the machine and materials. The bundle itself is extremely complete and feels like a “start creating immediately” package. It includes the Cricut Explore 5 machine, heat press, Smart Vinyl, Smart Iron-On (HTV), printable vinyl, cardstock, cutting mats, and essential tools. I appreciate not having to piece everything together separately because it removes a lot of guesswork. The included Smart Materials are especially useful because they allow matless cutting, which speeds things up significantly. I can load material directly into the machine, and it uses built-in tracking marks to align cuts precisely. Being able to cut continuous designs up to 12 feet long is especially useful for larger camper decals or long labels. The machine itself feels compact compared to older models, which matters to me since I already have crafting equipment and limited storage space. Despite the smaller footprint, it still cuts over 100 materials with precision, including vinyl, iron-on, cardstock, felt, and even leather. That versatility makes it useful for both decorative and functional projects. I also like that it integrates well with Bluetooth, so I can design from my phone or laptop and send projects directly to the machine without a complicated setup. The included EasyPress heat press is another strong addition to the bundle. It provides consistent heat up to 400°F and makes it easy to apply iron-on vinyl to fabric projects like tote bags or shirts. The ceramic-coated surface distributes heat evenly, which helps avoid patchy transfers or peeling edges. It feels like a professional tool, but it’s still simple enough for everyday crafting. What I enjoy most about having this system is the ability to create highly specific, personal projects. For my camper, I can design window decals that match my coastal and nature themes, label storage containers in matching fonts and colors, and even make decorative pieces that reflect my personality or sense of humor. That level of customization is something I simply can’t find in stores, no matter how much I search. The bundle also makes it easy to experiment. Since it includes vinyl, iron-on, cardstock, and printable materials right away, I don’t have to wait to start creating. I can try out ideas immediately, refine them, and build on them as I go. For someone who already enjoys Cricut crafting, this feels like a more refined and space-efficient upgrade that still supports a wide range of creative projects. For me, the real value of this Cricut Explore 5 bundle isn’t just the machine itself; it’s the freedom to create things that are personal, functional, and completely unique to my space, my style, and even my sense of humor.

As a beginner, a machine like this can be intimidating but, after reading the details along with the mention of this being easy for beginners, I was excited to try the Cricut Explore 5 with the Rainbow Essential Bundle and Easy Press. The description from Cricut and videos I found online convinced me that this was a tool I could learn easily and would have a lot of fun with. My box arrived with the Cricut well protected within another box and really, very much ready to go. Everything was easy to pull out to set up for first inspections and a step-by-step guide to get started with downloading the app. The app walks you through everything and within minutes, I was able to start my first/practice piece. I can’t say enough about how good the app is in ease of use and giving you a sense of confidence; everything is very clear and sets you up for success. After making the test project, I went on to the next with choosing my own - this is where things can be overwhelming with the number of project types and the thousands and thousands of graphic options but, I started with an idea and mind and was quickly able to select my pattern option. Everything you need is here to begin creating - and perfect for the beginner, with more options available for future purchase. There is an ample amount of vinyl and card stock sheets to make several projects as you are continuing to practice and build skills. I love having the EasyPress included as I have ideas for some tee’s to make as gifts. Everything is really portable making it easy to move from room to room if necessary. Watching the speed of cutting my tester piece was fun and satisfying to see in action and how quickly it worked. The cut was perfect, no missed areas, and left a clean, easily releasable sticker. I put mine on my Cricut so I could admire my work haha! For my second sticker, I chose to do a design that would require some weeding and a bit more finesse in application - I love the results! With all of the options for projects - essentially, endless?, the ease of use, the value for having a tool that allows me to create my own unique projects, this is a great tool and one I am sorry I waited so long to get - now that I have it, and have experimented with it, my mind is endlessly coming up with ideas I want to explore. There are so many resources available via online video tutorials as well as within the app - and those that I have watched are very good - that make this so easy for the beginner and really spark the creativity. If you are new to Cricut creating like me, do NOT be afraid to jump in ~ this kit is so easy and inspiring ~ you will not regret it. 5/5 from this newbie!

First time with a Cricut machine but I have wanted one for years. Ive experimented a lot with this and think I finally have it figured out, but the learning curve for a new user is kind of high. For example, if you are cutting a card of non-standard size, the layout options are unclear and don’t translate what you see on screen to the media properly. Again this is something that took some research to figure out and is not intuitive. If you are starting new, I definitely encourage you to watch lots of videos and join FB groups where you can ask questions and learn from others and get tips. The bundled materials came in handy to test out everything the machine is capable of, but I did end up wasting a lot material figuring things out. I wish that they gave you more material to test with. I found that the machine also struggled with delicate cuts and ended up tearing the card stock sometimes. It is a brand new cutting blade so I know it is not dull. I also found it disappointing that in order to get the best use of the machine, you need to pay a monthly subscription and it is not cheap. Without that, the “free” assets are very limited or say that they’re free but they’re not (perhaps a glitch at the time?). The machine itself is sleek and well designed and doesn’t look ugly in my office. However, it is large and takes up a lot of space, especially since you need at least a foot of clearance behind the machine, so it uses up valuable real estate.

Package/Unboxing: The Cricut, its tools, and sample materials were all packaged very securely and organized well. My only issue was the Machine Mat, which was too large to fit in the box without bending, so when removed from the box it still has a slight bend on it. I haven’t yet used the Mat for any crafting, so I don’t know if that curve will be a problem going forward. Materials: The Cricut comes with a variety of sample materials for different projects. Different colors of “Smart Vinyl” (which feeds into the machine directly without the Mat), Iron On fabric, card stock, and even a pre-folded greeting card are all available to get started. It also included a few sheets of Transfer Tape, which is necessary for making Vinyl decals. Setup: The setup is handled very well. First you are directed to download their Design application, which then walks you through your first project step by step. Within 20-30 minutes of opening the box, you have created and “printed” your first Vinyl decal! Hardware: In addition to the cutter, the box includes a few small hand tools (notably the Weeder and Scraper, both necessary for creating Vinyl decals). Also included are a small cutting board, a Machine Mat necessary for cutting some materials, and a Card Mat designed for making greeting cards. All the tools look to be of decent quality and should last for a long time. Software: The software is very “new user” friendly. Upon log in you are greeted with an opening page with links to projects you might want to take on, Window Decals or Iron On Patches, for example. There is a large collection of clip art for you to use, with the options to purchase art through the program or import your own. As a new user, I appreciated the guidance. As the user gets more comfortable with the process, there is a “blank canvas” option which takes off the training wheels and allows the user to get straight to work. Follow up: In the days following my first project, I received emails from Cricut encouraging me to try new ideas. Overall you get a sense that the company wants you to enjoy the product, and their relationship with you as their customer is just getting started. Overall, the Cricut impressed me as a high quality machine with decent support from the company. I have never considered myself a “crafter” but now I keep an eye open throughout the day looking for opportunities to create new projects. $249.99 at time of review ($299.99 regular price) is absolutely worth it for how versatile and compact this machine is!
