Very good set of pliers from a reputable brand (Crescent). They have a very heavy-duty feel to them and gives the impression that it could withstand alot of punishment. Both pliers teeth interlock at the end when closing, allowing for a firm grasp on the item you are attempting to retrieve. Compound-joint gives for a more compact tool, giving you access to tight spots that single-joint pliers cant. This feature allows you to open the jaws as wide as a normal plier, but with less handle-spread than your single-joint pliers, which makes this perfect to have for those "oops" moments when a bolt drops near the engine of an automobile, for lack of a better example. Handle feels more like a rubber material and will leave stains and marks, so be forewarned. Overall, very happy with this product and I highly recommend.

I am working under the dash on a 1961 Corvette to replace instrument lights. It is incredibly tight up in there. These pliers are ideal for this application. The combination of long reach and double-jointed jaws make this tool indispensable. If I never used them again, they would still have been a great investment. Quality is fine for a $20 item that one uses a handful of time. Love them!

These are actually better than I thought they’d be. They are not total Chinese junk construction. The noses are straight and the pivoting is good. They are sturdy and they dont feel like they are going to break. there’s not any perceivable flexing of the metal like some other cheap tools I’ve had. So overall I’m happy. Obviously if this was your profession, you’d get something from a line of professional grade tools.

These extended reach pliers are essential for removing/replacing the PVC valve on a 2.5L Ford Ranger engine. IYKYK. I cut some old vacuum hose into 1 to 2 inch sections and slip the pieces over the plier ends to avoid damaging the actual vacuum lines, works great. Can the job be done without these? Sure, but it's no fun trying to get arms larger than a 4 year old's down far enough to grab the vacuum line and PCV valve. (It's located on the lower driver side of the engine, obscured by just about anything the engineers could think of throwing in the way). They work on the spark plug wires too, which the engineers also played a great game of hide and seek with. I've used these pliers for more than I can remember, these two examples just come to mind. Oh, another use for these is reaching the clips on some headlights for removal or bulb replacement, such as on my 2000 Ranger. They're great for anything that's out of reach of a normal set of pliers. A good set to have in the tool box.

Needed a long reach set of pliers that were as compact as possible when opened. The longer the plier without the double hinge requires a large amount of space to open, this design allows for full opening of the jaws while maintaining a tight footprint. Very well made and tight with not extra movement in the hinges. Very high value tool for those times where you need a strong set of jaws deep into a restrictive area. Very happy with the purchase.

These are pretty good right out of the package; most will use them that way and be perfectly happy, especially for the number of times they actually get used. The tips on mine were ground well enough and fit together well enough, and better than I'd expect from China. But it's possible to improve them quite easily if you have a bench grinder. I have a "fine" wire wheel on mine, and spent about 10 minutes on each tool doing a firm "wiring" of all accessible surfaces, with extra attention along all the inside & outside corners where burrs remained from the factory grinding. (Do this with the jaws open so the wire can reach the inside corners better.) After a good cleanup with lighter fluid and a thorough re-oiling, these nearly have the fit and finish of some of my better tools (and I'm a Knipex and Klein guy). The surfaces are now silky, the edges don't snag towels when wiping them down, and the fine wheel didn't damage the etchings. Of course, be very careful as you approach the grips as they'd be easily damaged by a wheel. I smoothed the inside portion of the handles just above the grips with a Scotch-Brite pad.
