  • Very premium quality, and with a amazing esthetic and look.
If you are using a power and gain-hungry microphone (like the Shure SM7B in my case) beware you will need a gain lifter of some form to actually hear the mic. The sound and monitoring is great, and I hope to see more people try this out, as it honestly seems to be quite under the radar for being such a good audio interface. Would reccomend ... show more

  • Very good, but…
The mic pres on this interface have a non-linear frequency response. There’s a bump at around 4khz, in other words they sound mid forward. That can be remedied with an eq though. Apart from that things are generally good, running stable on my m1 mac and it appears sturdy and well-built in an all-metal chassis. Last but not least, very good headphone amp that is powerful enough to drive low sensitivity headphones. All in all a little gem. ... show more

  • Device disables Windows 11 Screen Saver and Screen Sleep functionality
There is a lot to like about the Creative Live! Audio A3 USB Audio Interface device. It is compact, has phantom power, direct monitoring, supports two input devices plus a smart phone each with it's own input level controls, and allows for output to a pair of powered speakers and two pairs of headphones each with dedicated volume control. As my review headline indicates, use of the device disables the Windows 11 Screen Saver and Screen Sleep functionality. Since the device does not have a power switch, the only fix is to disconnect the USB connection either at the device or at the computer. Creative Labs Support reviewed the issue after uploading diagnostic files from my computer and subsequently stated: "After further checking, we regret to inform you that this is an expected behaviour of the Creative Live! Audio A3. Unfortunately, there's no further firmware update for the Creative Live! Audio A3." If you can live with these conditions (as I've decided I will), it's a terrific audio interface. However, I am disappointed and expected more from Creative Labs. ... show more

  • A hidden gem
I was unaware Creative made anything other than sound blaster cards and haven't seen anyone mention or review this Creative Live A3 audio interface. I only discovered its existence when browsing many pages deep into the audio interfaces available here on Amazon. I bought it without hesitation because it ticked all the boxes for me and it's reasonably priced. I was a bit nervous since this is a virtually unknown interface, but the audio quality is fine and I never had any issues with the drivers or any software. The inputs on the back make it so much cleaner than having them on the front and I'm surprised more interfaces don't do it this way. Putting the phantom power button on the back is another great idea. If you never use it or have a ribbon mic that could be damaged by it, then you don't have to worry about accidentally activating it. There aren't many interfaces with 2 headphone outputs and definitely not many with a mute button. It's perfect for podcasting and streaming, which I'm pretty sure is what this interface is primarily intended for. I also like the gain indicators and spacious layout with knobs in a comfortable, easily accessible position. The separate 3.5mm input and volume is another unique and potentially very useful feature, though I haven't used it myself. It's honestly a really nice and unique interface that will suit musicians just as well as streamers. I'm surprised by the price considering all the features it has, which are lacking from the vast majority of other interfaces. I have some cons but the pros far outweigh them. The knobs feel cheap and fragile, particularly the large input level knobs. They never gave me problems but I feel they could break off or malfunction if you get too rough with them. The mute button is almost flush with the top and takes a bit of force to push. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's very tactile and clicky. This is probably intentional so it won't get pressed by accident, but there were times when I failed to activate it on the first press. I also wish each input had an independent mute button, which is the biggest drawback of this interface for me. Another reviewer stated that this interface prevents their PC from going to screensaver and sleep. I've had the same issue since I got it and never considered it was the interface to blame. It gets very annoying and could even be a potential security risk. At least I finally found out what was causing it. Oh, that reminds me of another annoyance: no power switch. Yeah, you can unplug it but that can be a hassle to do constantly and you can damage the USB plug if not careful. Power switches seem to be absent from most interfaces for some odd reason. ... show more
