I grew tired of my granddaughter tracing pictures on top of the computer screen. I saw the Crayola Light Up Tracing Pad while searching for craft items, and I had not heard of it before but thought the concept was a good idea. I could not have found a more perfect gift for her, and it has been in continuous use ever since she received it. The pad is used by all the younger children, our teenage artist, and I have used it myself for fabric patterns. I am impressed that after a year it is still working on the original batteries (3 AA batteries) despite not always being immediately turned off after use. This pad comes with a full set (12) of good quality Crayola colored pencils, a graphite pencil, 10 blank sheets of paper and 10 pieces of tracing paper, plus tracing sheets with designs and stickers. You can download additional designs, but my child enjoys tracing figures from coloring books, illustrations from her story books, etc. The paper "locks in" so it cannot slide around. The light emitted is quite bright, and expensive tracing paper is really not needed - we have used plain copy paper after the tracing paper that came with the pad was used up, and it works so well there was no need to use anything else. This toy was a good value and is used frequently. I have given the Crayola Light Up Tracing Pad 5 stars for the following reasons: Fairly inexpensive Low cost to power (3 AA batteries, not included) Works really well Children do not tire of it, still in frequent use Can use low-cost paper with it Not complicated to use ... show more

I love this Crayola tracer. It's a great light up pad that's thin and easy for kids to carry in their backpack. Wonderful for learning to trace drawings and even just as a flat hard surface in the in the car. Only complain I had is that the light on this one burnt out in like 2 weeks. I initially got one of these tracing devices for my two grand kids to share. But in short order it was obvious they really enjoyed playing with these so I purchased a second one. The backlit board is well lit. If I had my choice, it'd be great if it were slightly brighter, but you can definitely see the underlying template picture below. Both the blue and pink device comes with usable templates and each is somewhat gender specific, meaning the pink one had things like a runway model where the blue ones had things like a boy playing soccer. But what I really like is that you can find literally thousands of traceable images online with a quick Google search. So I downloaded and printed out a hundred templates that included monster trucks, princesses, Disney characters, super heroes, etc. these will be great to take on a airplane, in the car and they just love doing them around the kitchen table too.
