  • Professional grade metric combination wrench set
The made in Taiwan Craftsman Overdrive 6 point box end/metric long panel combination wrench set can be favorably compared to any tool truck wrenches at a fraction of the price. They're that good.

  • Quality Wrenches with Good Leverage—Craftsman Still Delivers
TL;DR: The Craftsman Overdrive 11-Piece Metric Wrench Set lives up to the Craftsman legacy of reliability and affordability. While I can't confirm the "tight torque" tech, the wrenches are comfortable to use, have a good length for leverage, and include common metric sizes. A solid, budget-friendly choice for anyone needing a dependable metric set. Full Review: Growing up, Craftsman was the brand. My dad had many Craftsman sets, and I’m pretty sure I contributed to their slow disappearance. Let’s just say some tools were used for things they weren’t designed for—and some never made it back. They’re still AWOL to this day. But my dad was a cool dude. When he found the broken or bent ones, we’d take them to Sears, and they’d swap them for new ones—no questions asked. No digging through paperwork or trying to find a receipt from decades past. ** It’s worth mentioning that the warranty applies only to Craftsman hand tool models starting with “CMMT,” as well as the older hand tools with model numbers beginning with “9.” My stepfather, on the other hand, was a pro: a heavy diesel mechanic. He worked on massive machines like the Cat 994 wheel loader and the Cat 793 250-ton haul truck. His tool collection was downright intimidating—Snap-On, Proto, Mac—the whole lineup. And yet, even he kept a Craftsman set that he reached for regularly, especially when he wasn’t donned in his coveralls in full mechanic mode snuggled in the engine bay of a 16-cylinder diesel engine. Those moments left an impression. To me, Craftsman became synonymous with reliability, affordability, and being there when you needed it. Which brings me to my newest Craftsman Overdrive 11-Piece Metric Wrench Set. It definitely lives up to that legacy. I already had a similar set of four Craftsman wrenches—no idea how I got them. They might even be among the aforementioned AWOL tools. But I’ve always liked them. If the size I needed was in that set, that’s the one I grabbed. I was never sure if they were part of a specialty or limited production run, because I couldn’t find another set like them—until now. While these aren’t exactly the same (my originals are still a bit longer and open-ended on both ends), this set shares the beam style & thin profile—just in the form of combination wrenches. It includes all the standard metric sizes from 6mm to 19mm and features the “tight torque” technology from the Overdrive line. Now, I can’t definitively say whether that tight torque feature works. Rounding off fastener heads is a rare issue for me. If I suspect a bolt might be stubborn, I hit it with penetrating oil hours—or even days—in advance. That’s been my go-to for over a decade. Before that? Sure, I rounded plenty of heads. But tight torque technology didn’t exist then; it was only introduced in 2023. I get the theory, and I can see how it might help—especially with box-end wrenches and sockets—but I haven’t personally witnessed a clear benefit yet. It seems like it could be useful, though. What I can say is that these perform better than my standard wrenches, mostly thanks to the longer beams. The beam sides strike a perfect balance—not too square, not too round—so even with the thinner design, they don’t dig into your hand. For comparison, my Snap-On wrenches can get uncomfortable under high torque because of their shape. The moderately angled box ends provide just the right offset to keep your knuckles clear of your workpiece. The included carrier is reusable if you like to keep your wrenches organized that way, but I plan to store them in my toolbox wrench drawers. It’s a solid set, covering all the common metric sizes, which makes it perfect these days when it’s rare to encounter a fastener that takes SAE. The price is more than fair—especially compared to what I’ve paid for my Snap-On and Proto sets. For what it is—a quality, affordable metric wrench set—it hits the mark. If you’re looking for dependable tools that won’t break the bank, this Craftsman Overdrive set is worth a look. These wrenches are built to last a lifetime. --- Product: CRAFTSMAN OVERDRIVE 11-Piece Metric Wrench Set (CMMT87811) ASIN: B0CZ9H52T5 ... show more

  • Well made, well finished, and well used by me
One of my earlier jobs in life was at SEARS and a friend of mine worked the tools section. Thanks to him, I collected quite a bit of Craftsman tools and had pretty keen memories using them over the years. When these popped up, I thought I'd give them a go, and have not been disappointed. The "Overdrive" feature is something that most of us working on older vehicles probably subject our tools to on a daily basis. These have a basic carrying case of sorts that lumps them all together in an organized fashion. The finish on them are sort of a shadow-chrome which I'm a fan of. This kit comes with the "usual suspect" sizes, and so far, even on some "DSPO-level" rounded fixtures, they've performed admirably. Most of us don't do the tool truck bankruptcy thing (though I have), but Craftsman still proves that even the everyday mechanic can have some pretty affordable and useful tools to get the job done. ... show more

  • 4.0-stars--Nice finish; handles a bit thinner than other wrenches I've owned
SUMMARY 4.0-stars--Nice finish; handles a bit thinner than other wrenches I've owned BACKGROUND Although I have a couple of Craftsman wrenches, I mostly have an assortment of various other cheaper brands because I'm not a professional mechanic and for my needs, they seemed good enough. Besides, when I originally bought them, I was less financially secure than I am currently. Still, they lasted for my occassional use. So, when Vine gave me this as a suggestion one day and since the ad implied higher tolerances plus they had 6-sided box ends (thus making them potentially stronger than 12-sided), I decided to give them a try. INITIAL OBSERVATIONS The sizes are (in mm) 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, and 6. So, why no 11, 9, and 7? The box ends are 6 sided instead of 12, so that should make for a more secure fit. This finish is a "gun metal chrome" finish and it looks good. COMPLAINTS / ISSUES When Sears went belly-up, Craftsman just became a name that could be sold and there is no guarantee that they are the same quality that they were back then. This particular one is made in China. My experience has been that tools made in Taiwan were better than those made in China, but it really depends upon whether the company that is subcontracting the work to China is diligent in their quality control and are constantly checking to ensure that the Chinese are not cutting corners and using substandard materials or reduced tolerances. From reading the Wiki page on Craftsman, it appears that the name is currently owned by Black & Decker. IMPRESSIONS My first test of the wrenches was on a new Schwinn e-bike that I bought from Academy. Whoever was responsible for assembling the bike had done a rather poor job and a lot of the nuts and bolts were loose -- enough so that even something as obvious as a fender scraping a tire was allowed to go out the door. On every nut and bolt that I tested it on, the fit was acceptable with noticeably less slop than the 12-point cheap wrenches that I've been using for probably over 30 years... The actual size (measured by a digital caliper) of the open end portion of the wrenches are: 19=19.15, 18=18.19, 17=17.07, 16=16,13, 15=15.14, 14=14.15, 13=13.15, 12=12.12, 10=10.09, 8=8.05, and 6=6.02 CONCLUSION Even though made in China, at this point, the product seems acceptable and the tolerances are acceptable. I will revisit this review if I encounter any issues with these wrenches over the years. For now though, I'm going to rate them "above average" (i.e. 4.0-stars).
