  • Decent router plane
This is a decent router plane for the cost. It has a good weight to it and feels solid in your hands. I used it to cut a channel into poplar. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add a gauge onto the blade so that the user can go back to a specific depth easily. I am happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • A sweet deal in a little plane
Very nicely machined tool. A bit of hysteresis in blade depth adjustment but deal with it and you have a real nice little router plane in your kit! Order the extra blades for the larger plane and the versatility goes way up.

  • Handheld Router Plane
I was very pleased to see that the quality was an A+. Extremely sharp cutter blade and the overall finish was beautiful. The sole is polished to a high shine.

  • Good for a first time user!
This is the first router plane I've ever owned (or used), and I love it!!! It came out of the box super sharp and ready to go! Even without any experience using a routing plane, I was able to figure it out- it's a pretty simple device. I recommend using the "alternative" tightening screw provided- it gives a more ergonomic feel to tightening the blade. I only have a few small complaints: First, the depth screw has no markings on it- it's hard to tell how deep you are cutting. This seems to be common in router planes, though. I just got around this by marking the blade with a marker! Second, the hole around the blade is a little larger that I'd like- it makes it easy to accidentally get the plane out of flatness near the edges of the board. (i.e., I was frequently attacking the board at an upward angle, and exiting the board at a downward angle, until I realized what was happening). But seriously, the complaints are minor- I really like this tool! I look forward to cutting some quick and consistent rabbets and dados with it! See pictures of my first "messing around" cuts with the router. ... show more

  • Decent router plane for the price but has a hidden problem!
I am not enough of a woodworker to spend over $150 on a premium brand router plane and this tool gets the job done... for the most part. It is rather small, so if you are routing out an area more than a couple of inches wide in any direction you will have trouble keeping the sole registered firmly on the work. But MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, the sole is not stainless steel... I believe it is aluminum. This is a problem because it leaves dark smudges on the surfaces around the cutting area. I suspect that even if you polish the sole it would still be an issue, since aluminum will oxidize so quickly. The best solution (apart from fabricating a replacement sole from iron or steel) would probably be to attach a thin hardwood sole to the existing base. There are countersunk holes on the bottom of the base to attach the handles which could be used for this, or you could drill new ones. This would also allow for a wider sole, making the plane easier to use for routing out larger areas. One last thing: The thumbscrew to lock the blade in place is not great, very difficult to get it as tight as it needs to be. Luckily the manufacturer is aware of this issue and now ships a replacement screw with a locking lever. The lever has a button on it so once it is tight it can be swung around to whatever angle you like. ... show more

  • Useful
A well-made tool. With the straight blade it can get into smaller recesses than the router planes with L shaped blades.

  • It works!
Ordered it Friday, came today on Sunday night via Amazon delivery. Opened it up and swapped out the wing nut for the locking bar screw (you can get more leverage on it) since I read people had issues with this design and the blade slipping due to the wing nut. Secondly, looking at the adjustment screw and the gap between the screw's adjustment knob and the top of the blade's bar itself, another way to make sure that IF it slips still, the nut is resting against the bottom of the blade bar's opening gap so that the blade has nowhere to go -- it'll be pressed against the nut anyways. I did that and immediately went to the garage where my dull dado blade had left really uneven cuts into some plywood. After adjusting the router plane, it easily cleaned up the dado channel. I was pretty happy with it. Yes, it's pretty small. So I actually just used it with one hand, and it worked just fine. ... show more
