  • some good, some not so good
Color: Black
I was looking for an inexpensive, 61-key, full size keys keyboard with the smallest footprint. This meets all those requirements. It's strictly for practicing exercises (Hanon), arpeggios, and various rhythms. All are possible with this keyboard. But to actually perform with it would be a disaster. All the extra tones and functions are, at least to me, worthless and I think most other serious pianists would agree. The biggest downside, as some other reviewers have noted, is the volume levels. There are seven or eight levels, depending on if you include totally silent. There's very little difference between most of the louder ones, and the lowest audible volume is just too loud for truly quiet practicing. I'll have to resort to headphones, or an external speaker that I can set at minimal volume. It would be so easy, and useful, to have one truly quiet volume setting. It'll do for now... ... show more

  • Excellent Keyboard for the Money
Color: Black
Yes this is not a keyboard that rivals multi-thousand dollar keyboards but for the money, I paid $120, I am very impressed. I was looking at a Roland Go 61 key piano for around $300 and although it has a couple of features that I would like to have, this keyboard does just about everything else in a better form factor for a lot less money. I looked at a lot of keyboards when deciding on this one, and I own two other keyboards already so I had a good idea of what I was looking for. I played piano as a kid, I would say intermediate level, then got back into it in my early adult hood and am now picking it up again as my kids are starting to learn. Bottom line: If you are a beginner, BUY THIS. If you are an intermediate piano player looking to practice on the road, BUY THIS. If you are a picky advanced player, maybe you should look at spending some more money, but if budget is a concern then I think you too would be happy with this, especially if you're also considering portability. If you are intermediate/advanced looking to compose music at home, spend the money on a better quality instrument that supports midi velocity. First the cons, which you will find upfront from all the other reviews on here: 1) Non-weighted keys. They have a spring in them, which has a better feel than some keyboards, on par with another entry level Yamaha I have, but it's definitely not like the weighted Casio I own, which feels much more like a real piano. For a beginner, I don't think it is an issue what so ever. 2) No sheet music stand. It's not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have. You will have to purchase something else to hold up your music, or maybe you are using a tablet and it has a stand on it. Whatever you do you will need something. 3) MIDI does not pass through velocity. As another reviewer mentioned, I can confirm this keyboard does not pass through velocity, so no matter how hard you hit the notes, they will sound the same on the computer. On the piano itself, it does change the volume of the key based on how hard you hit the note, but the sensitivity is mediocre. 4) Transpose only moves up a bit, not a full octave. Now the pros: 1) The polyphony is fairly good - It can sound out a good number of keys if you press down on them... more than I could tell with my terrible ears anyway, and at least 10 that show up on MIDI. 2) The form factor is awesome - basically all you have is the keys which are full sized like a regular piano, and a small inch an a half bar across the top, and then 3/4 on each side of the keyboard. It takes up so little space it can go in so many places and it's easy to transport. I bought it so I could take it with me to practice while I'm away from home. It's great for this. 3) It has all the other bonuses for a piano in this price range - USB Midi, sustain pedal included, Lithium battery built in, carry bag, etc. So many others do not have these. 4) Sound quality is OK. It is not the best. It doesn't sound "real" but it sounds just fine for what it is and the class that it's in. I like the piano at instrument two better than the default piano sound. If this piano had better sensitivity in the keys and passed them through midi, I would rate this piano 5 stars. Hope this review helps you! ... show more

  • It Works
Color: Black
I find the Costzon keyboard to be usable for the amatuer pianist. I found that the keys are touch sensitive. The touch sensitivity can be adjusted using the transpose button which I find necessary as the default setting not ideal. Some reviews are not too good due to the owner not bothering to read the owners manual. Reading the manual will prevent confusion regarding how to adjust settings on the keyboard. The sound quality is not too good, but find I can use a DAW as the keyboard can work as a midi controler. The function buttons are very hard to read. I'm going to get some white stickers to label the buttons with. The width of the black keys are narrower than a standard piano and open up more room for fingers in between the black keys that are playing the white keys. So far, nothing has broken or stopped working on it. If you can afford it, go for a name brand keyboard instead of this one. If the budget only allows for this one, this is an acceptable keyboard to use. I just discovered that the manufacturing date is 2 1/2 years ago! I assumed that I was buying a new one! I can't believe that this has been sitting around for that long and not been sold. ... show more

  • Great for the price, but only for beginners.
Color: White
I bought this piano for my 9-year-old who is just starting. (Mainly because I didn't want per grubby peanut fingers on my nice keyboard). She is absolutely thrilled with it. For the price it is great. The keys are large and it looks like the real thing. It has a battery and a travel case so you can practice on the go. Obviously, this is not a high-end keyboard. The keys are springy and the sound isn't amazing, but it does the job. If you want something cheap for a beginner than look no further. If you are a more serious musician, then I suggest looking at a Yamaha or a Casio. ... show more

  • Good, with one flaw
Color: Black
She loves it, it's small enough to be able to pull it out when wanted, without being so small that we can't cover the necessary range. Having grown up playing piano, she had as a requirement that the keys be full-size, and these keys are. It's nice that it has built-in speakers, so it's completely self-contained, without any need for external equipment. But, it has one problem: the default volume, when played through the built-in speakers, is too loud (starts at volume level 14 out of 17?? how does that make any sense?). And it's too difficult to lower the volume to an acceptable level: ("the volume control does nothing", as she puts it) the device gives zero feedback, the volume doesn't keep going when the volume control is held, the buttons are stiff and awkward to press, and the control doesn't seem to always register button presses. This would be workable if it weren't for the fact that the volume resets itself whenever you turn it back on after it's been turned off. Overall I think it was still a worthwhile purchase, but unfortunately it's not perfect. ... show more
