Description

"Corsair goes far beyond battle, survival tactics, and discovery (all of which are features in a strong plot with delightful blends of personality, tension, and unexpected twists and turns) to enter into realms of choice and consequence. The plot reveals how each character must grow beyond programming and purpose if they are to survive both individually and collectively." (Midwest Book Review) "Simultaneously brutal and beautiful." (Amazon Review) "You'll pick it up (and not be able to put it down) for the space opera/science fiction thrill ride. You'll think about it long after you've finished because of the questions about human nature, identity, and religion." (Goodreads Review) "Brimming with satisfying action, memorable characters and profound thematic depth, Corsair is easily one of the most exciting debut novels I've read." (Goodreads Review) "It moves at a propulsive pace, ramping up in intensity throughout and reaching for ambitious reveals that pay off impressively well by the book's concluding moments." (Goodreads Review)Under the blood-red skies of Calx, survival is a fleeting hope...Welcome to a world where the sun never rises, a planet torn between burning wastelands and frozen voids, where life clings to the thin Terminator strip, and death is an ever- present shadow. In this hostile environment, biological automaton T-β 63177 awakens from its cold slumber to perform its relentless tasks in a landscape of ice and fire, driven by duty and devoid of emotion—until something changes. When a fellow automaton is crushed by the treacherous ice, 63177 begins to experience something new: a flicker of life beyond its programmed existence. As strange memories stir and the ice-bound world reveals its darkest secrets, 63177’s fate spirals into chaos.Meanwhile, in the far reaches of space, Kalaiapi, an elite Corsair of the Confederation, finds herself locked in a deadly pursuit across the nebulae. On the trail of a mysterious Primus dreme, Kalaiapi is a deadly predator, relentless and cunning, until her prey escapes to a backwater planet. But this is no ordinary chase. As Kalaiapi closes in, she discovers the dark purpose behind the Primus ship's mission and the terrifying forces at play that could unravel the very fabric of the Confederation. What she finds will shake her to her core, testing her sanity, her loyalty, and her understanding of reality itself.Corsair is a gripping tale of survival, rebellion, and discovery set against the backdrop of brutal planetary landscapes and star-spanning wars. The novel's gripping and colorful narrative is complemented by patient world-building that trusts the audience to immerse themselves fully in its universe. • Gripping sci-fi with everything you'd want from a space opera
Format: Paperback
I went into "Corsair" with little notion of what to expect and found myself engrossed in a rich sci-fi world that left me unable to put the book down any free moment of the day. Corsair made me chuckle out loud at times, and made my heart ache at others. In corsair you'll find all the underpinnings of a great space opera; interstellar powers, honor and duty, cosmic horrors, and beneath it all the question of the meaning and value of our experience of the universe. Sorensen's writing paints a vivid picture of his world while posing philosophical questions beyond it. I'd fully recommend Corsair to anyone wanting a good science fiction novel, and eagerly await its sequel. ... show more

  • New Novel from Fledging Author
Format: Paperback
I often wonder when reading this type of fiction what type of childhood the author had. Was it one of stability, or chaos? Are there siblings involved that are characters in the story? Just how my mind works when reading works of fiction, wondering how much truth lurks behind the story. Good show, a worthy read. ... show more

  • Reminded me of the Expanse in a few ways
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed Corsair. It reminded me of The Expanse series. It’s tight - not too long, good quick pace, but great world-building. Like The Expanse, there is a depth to the future world, its tech, politics, and culture without going overboard with exposition. It’s hinted at and revealed over time in a way that makes it feel well-grounded and real. ... show more

Gripping and gritty. I loved the descriptions of the crazy planet it starts on. This is a fast-moving, yet thoughtful science fiction work. Sure to become one of your favorites! Check out his short stories in his new offering, A Thin Black Veil. Some creepy, funny, thought-provoking tales.

  • Rich and Colorful Worldbuilding
Format: Kindle
This is not a genre I usually read, but the rich and colorful worldbuilding in this novel was gripping. The author trusts the audience, and doesn't give in to unnecessary exposition that would disrupt the flow of the story. Corsair is a very imaginative and fun piece of space fiction that leaves me excited for more. ... show more
