  • Sounds very nice! Easy on fingers.
Size: Full Size
I bought this Cordoba Protege C1M guitar for my daughter by her teacher's recommendation. It is laminated but it's very pretty and it has a very nice sound, very warm and sweet. The action is also very comfortable, so the strings don't hurt her fingers even though it hasn't been set up yet. She is very petite, at just 5 feet tall, and it fits her just right even though it is a full size (teacher helped with proper posture). We tried many other brands, including other top brands, and this was the most comfortable for her fingers and size, plus it had the best sound for price range. Comfortable and a good sound means her motivation won't suffer because of equipment. The one which is worth twice as much doesn't feel or sound twice as good, only about 1/4 better. Teacher says that later, when she has to do recitals in a year or two, then we might want a solid wood one with a bigger sound from a way bigger budget ($$$$). I recommend you have yours checked for defects upon arrival. Ours was in good shape with no real defects. It does have a buzz on the 12th fret but she won't be there soon. It came with a tool to adjust the action to make it lower or higher. We are very happy with our purchase. Good price and delivered in two and a half days. ... show more

  • A Great Surprise!
Size: 1/2
I am exceptionally pleased with this guitar! I have been played and moved on a great many Martin, & Gibson , Eastman, searching for the one guitar that is honest and has a true sound. I am very surprised when I decided to try a Willie Nelson approach to guitars and get a nylon string classical. Because, I prefer parlor size guitars, I went with an inexpensive Cordoba 1/2 size, and I must say the voice of it is both loud and the set up was perfect out of the box with perfect intonation throughout the fret board. I am very pleased with this guitar build, voice and strings. ... show more

  • Fair instrument as my little boy’s first guitar
Size: 1/2
The media could not be loaded. Comes with some nice strings, no case/bag. Guitar: Pretty good sustain, the tone is better than I expected, some colors, response to attack and articulation is okay. Response to vibrato is poor. Trebles are a bit harder to play, which I believe is a good thing-builds good technique on ima fingers. In general, far exceeded my expectations for a beginner guitar at this price. Taking one star off because of some minor intonation issues on higher frets. Intonation, in my opinion is the most important thing to a guitar for kids. I am hoping to retire this guitar by the time my little boy works on repertoire that goes up there. ... show more

  • Adequate
Size: 1/4
I bought this guitar for my 4 year old son. The C1M 1/4 fits him perfectly. The construction is really good, and the matte finish is also perfect for the expected handling by a child. The tuning holds pretty well. The first day or two, expect to have to re-tune often as whenever changing out strings until they stretch and settle in, (this is absolutely normal for any guitar any price). The guitar plays well, the action out-of-the box was good too, comfortably low but no buzz anywhere down the neck either, it is really nice to have the truss adjust bar in case the action ever needs adjusting. Sound: Don't expect to be blown away by the sound of the guitar. The sound is exactly what you would expect for a guitar of this size and robust construction of the sound box. Meaning, expect it to sound a little "muffled". To get a livelier sound, you would need a lighter sound box which would make the instrument too delicate for the handling of a child. Though a little "muffled", the sound is still pleasant and balanced. I'm certain a different set of strings could liven the instrument some, but I haven't done that yet. It is still most adequate for what I needed, a pleasant sounding, small well built entry-level instrument for my young child. ... show more

  • Extremely disappointed in quality. Shame on Cordoba!
Size: 1/4
I've enjoyed owning several Cordoba guitars, so I didn't mind spending a few more dollars over comparable 1/4 size guitars because my experience has been generally good with this brand. Unfortunately this guitar is sorely lacking in the quality and craftsmanship I've come to expect from Cordoba. First and foremost, the intonation is abysmal, even considering that instruments of this size often fall short in this area. Every string runs at least a half-step sharp at the 12th fret and chords are unbearably out of tune anywhere on the fingerboard, even in first position! Additionally, there are multiple problems with the fit and finish, such as divots and gouges in the fingerboard, protruding and sharp fret ends, and rough and ragged spots from sloppy cutting and sanding at the bridge, nut, and head stock. This is the type of instrument that will discourage rather than inspire a young player. As a professional musician and teacher, I have recommended Cordoba in the past, but now I'm going to have to reconsider. I would recommend Kremona or Yamaha for quality beginner and/or fractional instruments. If you're on a tight budget, I doubt you could do worse with one of the instruments around or even below the 100 dollar mark, such as the Amigo or Lucida. ... show more
