Oddly, for what I wanted, it works perfectly and would be a 5 star. However, all I really wanted was a planer that was quick to grab and easy to use on the fly for very rare small projects of fixing swollen or tight joints or to minimize some sanding. For just that. I'd give it 5 stars. However, if you want a decent planer for more general use, then I have a lot of problems with this one. 1st of all, it comes with a lot of extra parts. They are listed in the "Package Includes" section, but they are not identified nor is an explanation given on how to use most of them. I'm pretty sure I have identified what is what through logical conjecture, but I'm still not sure how to use most of them. I figured out the ruler due to its unique shaped bar and the knob identified as the "ruler fixing knob." However, the plastic it slides into was not sized correctly or (more likely) wasnt trimmed when molded. I had to force the ruler into the slot on both sides of the planer with a great deal of force and wiggle it quite a bit to get it to work correctly. Finally... On page 2, it recommends a battery with a 4.0AH or more capacity. On page 5, it recommends a battery with a 3.0AH or more capacity. And the actual page showing on Amazon shows the Milwaukee 48-11-1820 battery as an option which is only 2.0AH. Fortunately, mine is 5.0. However, anyone looking at the lower end batteries may be totally confused on what will or wont work well.

While I wouldn't put this tool side by side with a real Makita and expect to see the same results, it still is a good tool. The brushless motor provides plenty of RPM and enough torque to shave through most woods without skipping or bogging down. I produced flat, even cuts across the entire width, and with the replaceable blades, you can always switch them out for something of higher quality should you need. One downside is the lack of a case, which is a real bummer because there are several tools and attachment pieces to keep track of.

Removing one star because there isn't a good way to connect a vacuum cleaner to it. Be VERY CAREFUL when using planers like this. The blades are fast, powerful, and very close to the edge of the tool. It's very easy to stick your finger into the blade if you aren't careful. Think about where your hands are while you're using the tool. Don't move your hands from that position until the blade stops spinning. If you haven't figured it out yet - I managed to injure myself with this. I don't think it's their fault. Most of the cordless planers that I've seen have similarly exposed blades. They have to, to work right.
