I don't usually leave reviews, but considering how pleased I've been with this product and how often I use it, I'd like to give er a boost. I've been a busker for over ten years now, and until now I - like probably 90% of other buskers - used Roland/Boss products like the Cube Street and its big brother, the Cube Street EX. This amp handily beats the Cube Street in nearly all categories for $150 less and holds its own against the EX, for nearly $400 less. PROS: - Sound quality. Sounds grand for what it is. Plug in a mic and an acoustic guitar, and you'll get a sound that's surprisingly faithful to the source. Much better than the smaller (Boss) Cube. Playing back music via Bluetooth will give you a good idea of what you're working with - it's quite mid-rangey, like most smaller amps, and not particularly detailed, but with a fairly solid, only slightly muddled low-mid end, and a nice bit of "oomph". The top end isn't anything special. If an airy, modern-sounding top end on your vocals is a must, the Cube Street EX does a better job at that & might be worth the extra cash. - Loudness. I was wavering between this amp and the bigger version, the BP60D, but I'm glad I picked this one as it's a lot more portable and plenty loud. I've yet to have any need to go beyond about 12 o' clock on the master volume knob, and around 10 o' clock is where I'm usually at for outdoor settings like farmers markets where you're not trying to be overpowering. - The battery. Unlike the Roland/Boss amps, which use AA batteries, this one is actually rechargeable - and it lasts substantially longer. I used rechargeable AAs for my Cubes, but that's an extra cost and it was a hassle having to pull out the batteries, charge them, and put them back in every time. - Bluetooth for playing tunes off your phone or karaoke/backing tracks. The Cubes have an aux in, but that means carrying an aux cable (and a lightning adapter if you're using an iPhone). - The USB socket is powered, meaning you can use it to charge your phone, or even better, power your guitar pedals with up to 800mA of power (if you buy a USB to 9V center negative cable). - Phantom power. Admittedly not something that's going to see a lot of use in most live settings, but fancy to have. - Output. 80W in this tiny box, compared with 50W for the EX and 10W for the Boss Cube. - Portability. It's much smaller than the EX and packs about as much punch. - Inputs. Two microphone inputs and two instrument inputs, as well as a basic line-in and the bluetooth connection makes for six channels, comparable with the Cube Street EX and far outperforming the smaller Boss option, which has only two inputs. CONS: - NO ELECTRIC GUITAR AMP MODELING! And the gain is clean, you won't get any overdriven/distorted sounds out of this. You could get around this (and get a sound much better than Roland's COSM) by using a modeling pedal like the Strymon Iridium or one of the UAFX amp pedals. But if you want electric guitar amp modeling in the box, Roland is still the way to go. - No onboard effects aside from EQ/Reverb, and the reverb sounds like arse. However, you can always get your effects thru pedals powered by the USB port or a rechargeable pedal power supply. - Default EQ balance - on acoustic guitar I've found it's actually a touch too bassy - I tend to dial it back to about 10 o' clock to keep it under control. But usually smaller amps have the opposite problem, eh? - (Possibly) Build quality. The sides aren't wood or plastic, but some sort of composite board material. It's not terribly substantial. If you remove a screw, some of the material will come out with it. And you're going to want to be careful with rain, if playing outdoors. I was careless and let mine get pretty damp a few times, and after one particularly wet session it wouldn't power on anymore. That was obv on me, and I was ready to purchase a new unit, but I figured I'd take it apart and see if I could repair it. It disassembles easily and the electronics are straightforward enough. The problem turned out to be the power switch, which went tits up for whatever reason. I was able to replace it with a cheap generic rocker switch for about $5. But obviously not everyone's gonna be able to troubleshoot that sorta thing. I couldn't say whether this component is a weak part, whether there's other weak components or whether I just got unlucky, but you might want to pay the $35 extra for a 3-year warranty if you plan to use this amp a lot. All in all, I'm betting this company will be a nice kick up the arse to Roland to start upgrading their line. It was only a matter of time before there was some more competition in this field, considering how much better both battery technology and the sound quality of portable speakers have been getting. If you were thinking about getting a Boss Cube Street and you don't need FX or amp modeling, get this one instead. And if you were thinking about getting a Roland Cube Street EX, I'd seriously consider this lil amp as a solid alternative. If you need an affordable live monitor, this'll do great. If you're very quality-focused and have $700 to spend, I'd consider the Bose S1 Pro+ as one of the only clear upgrades out there. ... show more

I'm a fairly busy musician. I play at a small wine bar EVERY Friday and Saturday night. This thing is perfect for the small venue, and I pretty much have all inputs and volume controls set mid range and it sounds great. Of course, if I said it sounded awful, then that could be a direct reflection on me, and not the amp. haha. But I loved this unit so much, I bought a second one. I also live stream, with a very minimal setup, just using a spare phone. So the record output works perfect, running straight into the phone. Then I don't have so much background noise. There's plenty of inputs for me to occasionally play the guitar on some songs, then a keyboard plugged in for other songs. When the venue gets too noisy I just plug in some noise cancelling earbuds in to the headphone jack and it drowns everybody out. The battery life is really impressive. I usually play for just over 3 hours on a Friday (1 mic and electric piano). I leave everything set up and come back in the next night and play for 3 more hours, and there seems to still be about half battery left. (I've never run it down completely to see how long it lasts. Because of course everything shutting down in the middle of a gig might be embarrassing.) So then I just plug it in at home for the next week and it works great. It's super light and easy to lug around. I always put everything on a dolly for one trip, and the size of this thing is perfect. I highly recommend getting this thing. Like I said. Review of CoolMusic BP40D (Background: Electrical Engineer, Age 77, Ham Radio Op - so I know equipment) I have 2 other amps, but I wanted a fully portable amp that had two input channels - one for mic and one for guitar. I wanted an XLR input for the mic. I wanted a real amp, not a toy with a 4" speaker. I was less interested in fancy DSP processing (see Spark). The BP40D fills the bill, and at a great price. Although a bit heavy (15 lbs) and big, I was willing to sacrifice that to get the sound that I wanted. Pros: - Loud, great sound. The two 6" speakers and tweeters do the job. - Terrific battery life. I ran it for 7 hours playing via the Bluetooth input, and the battery was only 1/4 used. It charges fairly quickly. (Your results may differ) - Nice control panel layout, very logical. Good quality controls and switches. Cons: - does not have the 9v output for effects pedals that other CoolMusic amps have. This would be nice but not a serious issue for me. - Size and weight - but if you want a sweet sounding amp, you have to pay this price. Other nice features: 48v phantom power so you can use a condenser mic - a nice option. Allows external Bluetooth connection so you can use it to play music between sets. Reverb, chorus, and delay work OK - nice to have but you will probably want to use external pedals for better control if needed. Carrying handle. Hole in the side so you can mount it on a speaker stand. Line-In / Record-out could be handy. Headphone output with separate volume control. So it's a great sounding, fully-featured amp at a great price. A winner for me. (No connection to CoolMusic) ... show more

For the price, this thing is extremely good! I've been gigging with it for about a week now and it has performed well above my expectations. Battery life is great so far; it sails through 3-hour gigs with hardly any deflection in the charge lights. (If one kept the volume cranked, that'd likely be a different story. Not an issue for me.) Controls are well laid out and work well. There are multiple inputs for mics and guitars as well as a couple of different line in options. Onboard FX are pretty good, not very tweakable but still quite usable. There's a surprising amount of volume for such a small and light package. Very little hiss at normal volume levels. Build quality in my opinion is excellent for the price. All this being said, sensible expectations are in order if you're considering a purchase. It's a small enclosure- it's not going to fill a big room with a loud crowd. (But there is a line out; you could get help from a PA or slave amp.) It does, to my ears, have a somewhat "boxy" sound, but that can be offset to a great degree with an EQ pedal or preamp like a Baggs Venue. There's Bluetooth connectivity if you need it to busk with backing tracks. (Haven't used that yet but will before long.) Overall, I have no major complaints. It’s a small, quality, very portable amp with really good sound and is perfect for practice, as a personal monitor and amp in smaller, more intimate, inside gigs. It’s super easy to use and has several great features. I especially like having the 48V phantom power so both a condenser and dynamic mic scan be used. Also cool that you can live broadcast or record ideas directly into your device from an internal line. It’s small but mighty and I love the blue. This is an amazing amp with a ton of features, especially considering the price. I am somewhat of a casual player, and mostly use this to practice playing/singing for the occasional open-mic, or to jam with a couple neighbors in the garage, and it's been perfect for that. The multiple guitar AND mic inputs are perfect. The effects work very well, and you have volume controls for all line/mic inputs. The bluetooth capability is an added bonus, and allows me to practice along with tracks, or to use a prerecorded drum track. The build quality is also much better than expected - it's a solid/heavy amp for its size (while also being extremely portable), and I expect to get many years of service. Oh - final thought, I've also been using the amp with its mute-button engaged (another cool feature), to run the amp effects through my Focusrite audio interface, and stream online. ... show more

What a cute lil noisemaker. Fun lil guy. Mono. Weird power supply seems to work. Considerably smaller than the cube but weighs just as much, feels dense. Sound Quality is ok. Gets loud. I wonder how it will perform in this record heat. Only one way to tell, will report back on this later. Overall seems solid construction wise and functionally. Bluetooth worked fine. Inputs feel solid. There is a noticeable noise floor and a sub roll off like others have said. Considering the compact size & price point this is acceptable imo. I don't feel like I've lost dynamics, kicks still sound punchy to me and the overall bass response is very decent. Just don't expect massive sub lows from this amp. Running this through an audio interface using virtual amps and drums - sounds louder and tighter than the cube to my ears, less shrill in the high end too. I can face the amp directly at me which I couldn't do with the cube due to the piercing highs. While it isn't stereo I can kind of fake a stereo sweep using both inputs and playing with the eq stacks. Fun times. I'm really liking this sweet box. The gain and master volume knobs are insanely sensitive, not really a bad thing but this amp cranks up fast. I had my master output knob from my interface at noon, amp input gain knobs at 1/4 master at FIRST NOTCH and the amp was kicking. Thing has plenty of volume. Pro's: Loud, Compact, Connectivity, Decent Soundstage and punchy dynamics Con's: Subs lacking, Power supply looks janky, Not true stereo ... show more
