  • So Far So Good -- Make Sure You Receive The Revised Model
Color: 850
I like the idea of having an 850-watt PSU in SFX form factor for my ITX builds. However, I did not pull the trigger for a long time due to complaints of the semi-fanless 15% fan curve issue which resulted in wild fluctuations and noise (for example the fan would suddenly ramp up form 0% to 100% even during very light loads). Fortunately after hearing that Cooler Master revised their SFX PSU line to fix this erratic behavior, I finally purchased the V850. I still was still a bit worried that I would get a pre-revision unit. Thanks to Machines & More on Youtube (check out the video called "A Revised Fan? Cooler Master SFX Power Supply Revision 2021"), I knew that I got the revised model. This is how to tell if you got the new version: 1) On the box, it should state "100% Japanese Capacitors" (instead of "15% Fanless). 2) On the box, the picture should show a smooth fan curve (instead of a 15% drop-off curve). 3) The removable sticky note on the unit should state "Fan will not spin until a specific core temperature is reached" (instead of "Fan will not spin when load is under 15%"). Overall, this is still not the quietest SFX PSU when under load (well, at least compared to SFX-L PSUs with larger 120mm fans). But for $145, I think it's a very good price for an 850-watt Gold SFX PSU, hence 5 stars. Let's just hope it lasts for a long time. ... show more

  • Horrible fan curve
Color: 850
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. After it's been warmed up, the fan will ramp up from 0 to 100 above 15% utilization. Completely unusable at this noise level in a quiet SFFPC. UPDATE: They got back to me 1 month after I submitted my RMA, and they're making me pay for shipping it back to them. Keep that in mind when comparing this vs the SF750. At this point, I would have rather gotten the SF750. UPDATE 2: For those of you who are stuck with this PSU: I removed the fan, installed a noctua 92x14mm, and routed the cable outside to a motherboard header. It was cheaper than sending it for an RMA. NB: please unplug and let your PSU discharge for half an hour before disassembling it. One of the screws is under a "Warranty Void if Removed" sticker. ... show more

  • Defective Fan curve on the current revision 0-100% like every single person has experienced
Color: 850
It's well known that these current revisions of this line of PSUs have defective fan curves. They go from 0-100% while just browsing the web. CM isn't being very clear on when this issue will be fixed or on how they're going to handle returns/exchanges to customers who decide to keep the PSU. I would highly recommend staying away until they fix the defective fan curve issue. And even after they "fix" it.. I would wait for reviewers or others to confirm that the rev2 of these PSUs are 'okay.' I was sooo excited to see some more SFF PSUs on the market, but this launch was a complete let down. ... show more

  • Horrible fan noise. 0-100 in a sec.
Color: 850
Everything is great about the psu except one big thing. The loud vacuum sounding fan. It ramps ups every time i do anything. Open a webpage, the fan gets loud. Scroll through email, the fan gets loud. Even when I leave the computer to idle. The fan ramps up every 30-60 seconds. It’s driving me crazy. ... show more

  • I think the fan curve is fixed?
Color: 850
JUST received my item on 1/29 and I THINK the fan curve issue is not present on mine. I have a 3090 and a 5900x and it took pushing BOTH my cpu and gpu to actually get the fan to spin, which wasn't even audible. Then, after I took the load off, the fan immediately stopped again, which is supposedly NOT what others are experiencing. Hopefully others can chime in on this most recent batch and confirm my findings are true. EDIT 2/1/21 - Curve not fixed. Ironically, pushing my cpu and gpu didn't even get the fan to do much, but just sitting here doing NOTHING, it ramps up then down, up then down, etc. etc. It is annoying. EDIT 2/18/21 - Whelp, I guess the constant changes to RPM caused the fan to die and the bearings are crunching, whirling, yelling now. I can't even use it. RMA! 5 Star > 3 Star > 1 Star ... show more

  • Ridiculous fan curve (1/18/21 dated unit)
Color: 850
I believe I have a fairly recent model of the V850 and this fan curve is ridiculously annoying. Whoever at Cooler Master thought it was a good idea to go from fan off to 100% at a certain (low) threshold has NO business in developing a fan curve. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PSU UNTIL COOLER MASTER HAS CONFIRMED THE ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED IN ALL PRODUCTION MODELS! Don't be like me - spending hours to route cables and make everything nice, only to have to replace the PSU and undo all my work. ... show more

  • 850w SFX Unit keep turning the fan off and on at idle (Web browsing)
Color: 850
Very annoying fan ramp up for like .5 seconds then turns off. Then repeats frequently over the course of a minute. I was looking forward to this unit and it's very annoying. While at load, the fan is audible but not bad. It's the initial ramp up that is sharp/irritating to hear. I would NOT recommend buying this. ... show more
