Wow! I feel like this is going to change my life. First of all, let me just remark on the quality. This is very very high workmanship. As a seamstress there are just things you notice about how it’s put together and the stitching is zigzag where it has stress and has crosses for extra reinforcement. The zippers are put in very well and are sealed to trap in all of the cold. All of the bindings around the edges are even and stitched well. It’s feels like a much more expensive product. If I saw this at REI, I’m sure it would be over $100. I really like the size. It would be good size for a family picnic. It’s maybe a little bit smaller than a regular grocery bag which is fine because anymore would feel pretty heavy. We are picking up groceries on foot for a little walks a lot more often and this makes it really nice instead of trying to balance a bag in one hand unevenly for a mile. Plus, my hot back isn't warming the food due to the insulation and things aren't poking my back. I also see keeping it in the back of my car because when I get groceries, I usually have three bags full and that means two trips so this would just get us from the car to the house in one trip. I love that there is a separate insulated upper section. That’s a good size so you could put something hot in there while keeping the lower section cold. I was able to fit a small frozen pizza in the lower section. My only complaint is that the upper straps rubbed against my neck uncomfortably so I did wear a sweatshirt and then it was no problem. I wonder if overtime it will soften up a little bit. Also, I think that this would fit a taller person well. I am very short and it was just a wee bit long, but I think it would fit most adults well. The other feature I really really love is the chest strap because you can snap it and then be truly hands-free, not worrying about the straps, slipping off. The outer fabric is really nice because it’s kind of sealed so you can wipe it down, but it’s also kind of like a coated fabric. All in all super happy with this product and I expect to use it for a special occasions like camping, but also for daily and weekly grocery shopping. I don't see using it for traditional camping multiple days or even a day because I have more intense coolers for that already - also much much more expensive like add a 0. Nice bottle opener too it’s smooth and lightweight. Comfortable zipper pulls too. Lots of small detail details that make this a very nice product. update: I'm still in love with this backpack cooler. It makes picking up groceries by foot fun! It's lightweight when not packed and comfortable when I put in groceries and I don't hesitate buying cold things for the walk back even on hot days.

The bag has a good deal of capacity to hold cold items (the can in the picture is a 16oz can for reference). It’s got a molle grid on the front that makes it easy to strap additional items or pouches on it if you want. The zippers are certainly not waterproof, at least not from the inside. If your ice melts and you lay the bag down water will definitely leak from the zipper at the top, but for the most part it shouldn’t be a big issue. This might even be a good thing as you can drain off excess water/weight as ice melts. The insulation on the bag is not very thick, so it will probably not stay very cold inside without ice, and your ice will likely melt relatively quickly on a hot day. The inside is lined with “lunch box” style material though which does make for easy cleaning. The straps aren’t super padded so the bag will get uncomfortable on your shoulders if the bag is full and you carry it for a long time, but the construction is pretty solid so will probably stay together for a good many uses. I also like the little top pouch to keep a small item or two cold and isolated from the rest of the bag. I like the overall design of the bag too, pretty much looks like a cool backpack.

I just used this cooler on a 6-hour kayaking trip and I'm impressed with the results. It's a good size, holding plenty of drinks and ice for 4 people, it has a quality zipper and several accessory pockets to zip away other items like sunscreen and insect repellent. I would not consider those pockets waterproof enough for delicate items on the water and you should proceed with caution (I'm not saying your phone or your tissues will be safe), but things should be fine in most any rain. Most impressive to me, on the trip, the cooler got fully submerged in water twice. This is because I'm a better cooler buyer than kayaker. Neither time was more than a few seconds before I got it flipped back out of the water, but there was no leaking at all, and in that water, we would have known. The stitching, straps, and webbed pockets are all sturdy and apparently good quality. We packed it with about 3 lbs of "grocery store" ice and no freezer packs, and probably 12 (already cold) drinks. Cold retention was what I consider very good. It was about 86F out, sunny, and very humid. We had ice-cold drinks the entire 6-hour trip down the river (counting a bit of drive time to the drop in point and back to the campsite). The cooler was opened 4-5 times during the trip, and we still had ice at the end. In fact, 10 hours later there was still some ice remaining, so I would say the ice retention is on par with any cooler of this type and better than many. The value is outstanding at under $40.

Admittedly, the cooler backpack does make me feel like going to a picnic but in reality I find myself going to the grocery store instead for which this is immensely useful. Since I live in a state with yearlong high temperatures, I combine the use of the cooler backpack to store cold/frozen food items along with a collapable storage container to carry dry foods. This arrangement works well enough to ensure that my cold/frozen (be careful not to cross contaminate raw meat, poultry, seafood, etc.) food items are not melted by the time I arrive home. With that being said, although I very much appreciate the cooler's other features such as the molle webbing, mesh pockets and bottle opener, it is the ability to keep my cold/frozen groceries safe inbetween the grocery store to home that is of the greatest value to me.
