  • Incredible Grip and Speed with unbelievable Wet Mud performance for a XC tire
Size: 29 x 2.3 Style: Cross King
Set up Tubeless with Schwalbe Procore and Stan's. These are the 29x2.3 on a Cannondale Scalpel-Si Carbon 3 - 2017. Running 18 psi. I weight 145 lbs. With the bike, just under 170 with gear/water. Rims are Stan's Crest MK3 After riding this tire through hardpack, gravel, dirt and wet mud I can tell you that it can take anything I throw at it. I haven't crashed even in quick trail transitions from rocky downhills right into a mud lake in front of me. No wobbling riding through at full send. (see the muddy bike pic, I am not joking) The mud grip, despite not the intended design usage, was very confidence inspiring. The dry grip is unbelievable. As you know as a rider, confidence in your equipment is critical. Grip allows you to go faster, without braking, knowing you can make the turn at speed without losing control. This is what this tire accomplishes. I've gone over roots, rocks, dirt, mud and detritus. No punctures, no flats, just go-go-go. No leaks of sealant at low pressures. I don't think I can buy anything else for this XC bike ever again. ... show more

  • Super grippy trail bomber
Size: 27.5 x 2.3 Style: Mountain King
Super grippy, rolls decent, install was pretty easy if you have the right tools. Not the lightest tire but light enough for a gravity tire. This tire will bomb and eat up any trail you throw at it. It’s built so well, the protection apex carcus is thick and inspires confidence through the knarliest terrain. If your coming from lighter, XC tires than you will definitely notice the weight difference. I personally put these tires on my down country bike because I’m not a weight weeny, nor do I race, I just love sticking to the trails and bombing through the rough stuff. There actually significantly lighter than the majority of gravity tires on the market including nobby nics, maxxis minions, ect. I run the der baron 29x2.4 in the front and der Kaiser 29x2.4 out back. One of the grippiest setups I’ve ran to date. and highly recommend any of the continental lineup, protection apex, black chili tires, for there craftsmanship and affordability. ... show more

  • Very easy rolling and tough
Size: 29 x 2.2 Style: Race King
I wanted a higher volume tire for my adventure/gravel bike. I wanted something that had lower rolling resistance and all the reviews I found pointed to the Race King. The price was good so I tried them. I was not disappointed. The tubeless install was a little tougher than normal but eventually got them to "pop" with some soapy water. After riding them a few hundred miles, I really like the ride. On singletrack they have plenty of traction but on gravel they don't feel like they drag you down. I run them about 30-34 psi and they provided a nice amount of cushion on my single speed. They also seem very tough and resilient. Some tires I have tried are soft and comfy but don't have any puncture or tear resistance whatsoever. These are the Black Chili Protection version and I am very satisfied. I wish they made a tanwall :) But those probably wouldn't be a tough ... show more

  • Excellent tires that can tank!
Size: 27.5 x 2.6 Style: Der Baron Projekt
These tires are a HUGE upgrade from the Maxxis Rekon's I had on my Rocky Mountain. Those tires were light, soft, and were very quick, but just weren't right for what I was trying to use my bike for. They struggled for traction on the loose, messy trails here whenever I pushed my bike and spun hopelessly if I dropped the hammer. These, on the other hand, are grip MACHINES. I've handled steep 17% grades covered in loose leaves, gravel, and mud, with little to no slipping. In fact, the only times I've managed to make these tires break loose is whenever I roll over a loose stick or slick rotten log, and I doubt even the most agressive of tires could adress that. They're also dang near indestructible, and you can feel it. These tires are pretty stiff and feel like the pressure is much higher inside than it actually is. They're also heavy beasts, but when you're out on the trails, you really don't feel it. They are slow and have one of the highest rolling resistances among MTB tires. But man, does that grip pay off. TL;DR - If you want a beastly, near-bulletproof set of tires for mud, extremely loose soil, loam, or loose over hard conditions, and don't mins giving up weight and rolling resisitance, buy these now. ... show more

  • Very grippy and confidence inspiring, but not fast
Size: 29 x 2.4 Style: Der Kaiser Projekt
Before you read further, I've only had ONE ride on these- yet I felt compelled to write up ASAP because these are very unique tires. My ride was on a typical Friday, loopy, rutty single track that I've had multiple tires and bikes on so this might be a valuable review for you- If you want a fast tire, don't buy these. If you want a super grippy tire that inspires confidence to do more than what you might normally do, get these tires! Nutshell summary. Want more, read on- I can't believe how much tread and traction and grip these tires provided me with. The former Kenda Tomac's and the Continental Cross Kings that I've had on this bike before don't even compare to the grip of the Kaiser. How so? The deeply rutted single track that loops more than bowl of Cheerios was ridden today with no loss of traction what so ever. I didn't even need to ride up the banks as much on the hairpin turns- the traction on the side of the tires digs in so deep I remained closer to the center of the track much more than usual. The knobby sides really helped in the turns but watch the handling and unwanted contact- So grippy that when I caught the top side of a deep rut, the tires actually pulled me out of the rut and off the single track! Never before happened to me on this trail or with any other tire or bike. So basically, point the front tire and it will take you where it's pointed whether you like it or not? Not sure yet but wow. On the negative side, I felt slower today where I usually roll faster on the straights and descents. I don't race (anymore) so my slow single speed mind state could care less. Very easy to install these! Just roll them on. And my gosh they're heavy and big and wide. I'm back on monster truck status. Ride safely- ... show more
