Features

  • MARATHON PLUS TIRE: The most puncture resistant pneumatic tire there is. The patented, 5 mm thick SmartGuard layer has a significant advantage in rolling resistance. Also in the SmartGuard, we use a proportion of recycled rubber from old latex products. It now lasts much longer before deveolping unsightly cracks when subjected to use with insufficient air pressure. Due to its great properties Marathon Plus is the best choice for E-Bikes (E-25).
  • WARRANTY: policy on all Schwalbe product purchased within North America. Our warranty term is 3 years following the original purchase date of the product, or 5 years from its production date - whichever occurs first.

  • Has prevented flats so far
Size: 700 x 35cm
I bought the Marathon Plus because last summer I had at least four flat tires during rides. Since putting the Marathon Plus tires on, I've ridden 300 miles (a few of those rides on the same trail that gave me multiple flats last year), and so far so good - not a single flat. This morning I rode in the "Tour de Belt" event around Harrisburg, PA, and when I got back to my car I discovered the pin (or whatever it is) pictured with this review embedded in my back tire. It was in there so deep that it broke into two pieces as I tried to pull it out. The pointy end of the little hooked piece was at least half-way into the tire. I got it out and, as far as I can tell, the tire's fine. The tube was undamaged. I should mention that those who say these tires are hard to get onto the rim aren't kidding. I was expecting it to be difficult, and it was even worse than I was expecting. Took quite a bit of struggling. But if I can get them onto a rim, probably anyone can. Also, these tires are noticeably thinner and harder than my previous tires, so the ride has gotten a good bit rougher and it took me a while to adjust going around curves, especially in gravel. But considering that the tire survived being stuck with that pin that would have easily flatted my previous tires, I can live with a slightly rougher ride. ... show more

  • Replacements for back two of recumbent
Size: 20 x 1.75-Inch
The old tires were just too old, too thin. Even tiny barbs were enough to get through to the inner tube. The new one are "same make and model" as the old and are working very well.

  • Best Flat Resistant Bike Tire (that I've found)
Size: 20 x 1.75-Inch
This tire replaces the exact same brand and model that I owned for eight trouble free years on my recumbent bike. If you don't like to deal with flat tires, this is the tire to buy. The only downside is the difficulty in installation.

  • Much easier to mount than expected
Size: 20 x 1.75-Inch
Update: I have been riding on these tires for 5000 miles without a single puncture. I have a recumbent tadpole trike (2 wheels in the front and one in the rear) so it's hard to do a direct comparison with a bike. Since I use 20" tires, each part of the tread hits the path about 30% more often than a 26" tire would. It's also harder to avoid potholes and debris with a trike since the wheels don't track each other. I replaced the rear tire after 3000 miles with another Marathon Plus because it was getting bald. I'm still using the front two tires after 5000 miles and expect to get another 500-1000 miles out of them. I've been very pleased with the tires. Original review: I bought a 20x1.75 Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire for my new recumbent trike. After reading all of the reviews, I was expecting a struggle to mount it. It actually only took me a few minutes with no tools, just my not-so-strong bare hands. The tire also didn't feel as heavy as I expected, although that may be due to the smallish size. The tire is rated for 50-70 PSI, I'll probably run it at 60 PSI for a mixture of pavement and stone dust riding. I'll edit my review if I have any problems with the tire in the future. Note that the tires are directional, be sure to mount them so they rotate in the direction molded into the tire. I plan to replace the other two tires with Marathon Plus (same size). I only ordered one initially because I was concerned about problems in mounting the tires. The extra cost is worth it to me if it eliminates the hassle of repairing a flat miles from home. ... show more

  • Durable for Punctures, but Cracks Develop
Size: 700 x 32cm
Have had no flats, which is nice. But was surprised that they developed cracks along the sides after only two years and doing no touring – just short local rides. I would still recommend them over regular tires though, just be aware they don't last as long as you might expect overall.

  • tough tires for almost all situations
Size: 700 x 32cm
The Bontrager tires that came with my Trek Crossrip Elite held up well riding on streets and trails around DuPage County, Illinois. After switching to Continental 5000s for a century ride I discovered how much more secure in the corners a tire with a more rounded profile can be. I ditched the Bontragers and now run Marthon Plus for everyday riding because of the better profile. Yes, they are fairly heavy but they've held up well and provide a stable ride in the turns and along the crushed limestone trails we have here. ... show more

  • Tire installation Problems ++
Size: 20 x 1.75-Inch
I hope this tire provides the desired resistance to puncture I expect. If it doesn't it sure will be a disappointment, everything else about this tire shows me that the regular Schwalbe Marathon is better in every other way. First of all it's a bitch to put on, I broke two tire tools 1 of my Pack Tl-1 & 1 Tl-4 tire tools trying to install this tire. I had to use the forged steel tire tools that came with my old Triumph motorcycle tool kit. I put a 20x1.75 Plus on the rear of my Sun EZ Rider recumbent after two flats with the Schwalbe 20x1.5 Marathons I thought I should try this more costly and hopefully tougher tire. Secondly the Marathon plus is only rated for a max.air pressure of 70 psi were the 20x1.5 marathon lets you go to 100psi. the difference in rolling resistance seems to be so much more difficult you feel like your running on a tire going flat. I've increased the pressure in the plus by 5lbs and ridden my normal distance of 25 to 30 miles for a couple of rides and then increased again to the point that I now ride with 85lbs and it's seems better. I don't know how this will effect the wear or life of the tire, I will have to wait on that but otherwise it seems to be performing better. If I had to ride @ 70lbs I would take the plus off and toss it. My last comment is, I can't imagine trying to change this tire on the side of the road, it was a pain in the ass doing it in the garage. I've put a lot of tires on my bikes and motorcycles over the last 45 yrs but my first time putting this tire on was as difficult as any motorcycle tire I ever put on. I used a little soapy water for a little lube and that did help some. Maybe the larger tire sizes are better?. I should also mention that with this bike and my weight 220lbs the tire is at it's max, I think the weight distribution on that bike, set for my height 6' is about 20 front & 80 rear so that doesn't help with the flats on the reg. Marathons. The Marathon Plus doesn't come in a 20x1.5 so to get the Plus I didn't have a choice. ... show more
