I’ve used more than a few come a longs in my life but this one has a VERY poor double spring release ( to release the cable) it will work if you fiddle with it but for $50.00 I don’t have the patience for a poorly designed product, other than that it has nice hooks and seems to be heavy duty.

We got this 5-ton come-along winch for stretching fences, and I must admit it might be a bit overkill for our needs. According to my scale, it weighs 10 pounds 4.5 ounces, while the listing states it's 12.57 pounds—perhaps that includes the packaging. It’s quite a hefty tool to carry around the pasture along with the other equipment. The double lock mechanism took me some time to figure out, but another reviewer has made an excellent video that explains its operation. I recommend watching that video before you try to use it; it will save you from the frustration I experienced. I do appreciate the double lock feature for safety while stretching the fence. We subject the fence to high loads, and I want to ensure it won't accidentally release and cause injury. While I wouldn’t attempt to lift 5 tons with this unit, I am confident it can safely pull that much weight. We have about 6 acres of fencing to complete using this winch, and I’ll update this review if we encounter any issues. The winch comes with two yellow nylon straps, which I assume are intended for vehicle recovery. They are slightly thicker than a typical ratchet strap, so I would probably discard them unless you have light-duty use for them. Overall, we are extremely happy with this come-along winch.

The media could not be loaded. This is a super-duty winch, with a beefy build and 11,000-lb capacity to back it up. But it is heavy, and not for casual use. But when it's needed, it should prove to be a good performer. I use come alongs like this when taking down trees that don't have a clean fall line. Once in place with taut rigging, I'll make my final cut, leaving just enough wood to keep the tree standing, but not enough to resist a few cranks of the winch. At any rate, this super-duty come along will do nicely for tree work, and so much more. Each of the components that have been selected for this winch are heavy duty, from the massive hooks to the thick nearly 10-ft in length cable. With any come along, one of the most important features is the release mechanism for the cable spool. For this model, the design calls for two spring latches on opposite sides of the spool. The rear spring latch simply lifts up to release, while the front latch uses a sliding spring that has to be lifted up to disengage the latch from the spool gear. Once lifted, the front latch is hands-free, which is obviously great. Leaving just the rear spring latch to lift, and this allows the spool to move freely. Bottom line, it's a one-handed mechanism. Although the front sliding spring is an unusual design for me, it’s actually quite effective. And it does allow one-handed control of the cable spool via the rear spring latch. This frees up the other hand to work the cable. My only concern is the wear that the spring wire will experience after many cycles of up and down movement. On a positive note, the wire gauge is 1.5mm thick. But still, metal-on-metal movement will eventually score, and given enough time and wear, eventually break. But I don’t think that will happen any time soon, if ever. Giving me plenty of years to get my use from the tool. My recommendation is to give this come along winch a serious look. But only if you need the 5 ton rating. Because as I’ve already mentioned, it is heavy and not something you’ll want to wield for small jobs. The price is right to. At the time of order, it was selling for only $48.99. That’s a great price in my book. I definitely recommend.

We have held off getting a come along and I don’t know why. This works great for fence repairs. The neighbors bull didn’t let our fence stop him from coming to visit and this tool was a necessity for fixing it. Works great!

We really needed a new come along as our previous popped the rivet for the swivel hook, rendering it useless. While this looks almost identical, the "rivet" has a more substantial base and hasn't shown any signs of pulling thru the steel plate. Operation is EASY as the latch flips between two positions to let cable out or reel it in. I really like the upgraded pulley (compared to what I had). The straps are fairly straight forward and narrow at just over 1 inch wide. They look like they'll hold up to the rating of 5 tons pulling (*not LIFTING... PULLING).
