I've had these boots for 3 years and so far they are the only boots I've ever hiked in. I do plan to upgrade to other boots soon but these are great entry level boots. They are water resistant in my experience, not waterproof. Stepping in one big puddle of water will be fine. Slogging through several puddles will eventually cause your socks to get damp. I think the grip or traction is ok for dry weather. Wet rocks and vertical scrambles on wet rocks is fine. However tree roots or slick logs - traction is poor for me. Icy trails will win against the boots. I fell down several times trying to walk on ice in these. Not the boots fault, I wasn't wearing ice spikes. Just don't wear them in winter weather. There are no signs of the boot peeling open or falling apart which is great. One negative is that the upper tongue portion becomes floppy and loose during hiking. Lacing up the boots tighter doesn't help because the tie sort of slides down under the label leaving an inch or so closest to your ankle free to move and loosen, causing the boot to not feel secure on the foot. ... show more

I needed some new waterproof boots for walking the dogs, camping etc. And didn't want to risk $200 bucks on expensive hikers that I can't justify. These boots look great, and my feet stayed dry walking the dogs this week in wet grass and muddy areas. I did apply mink oil and let it soak in for 24 hours so that that probably helped. I'll continue to use the mink oil occasionally so I don't get the cracking leather some have complained about. I ordered my usual size 8.5 in wide so I could wear warm socks and they fit perfectly. I plan to put a softer insole in them since it does seem a tad hard. My toes got a little cold walking this week so I'm glad I have room for thicker socks. My one complaint is I can see the white tag inside the tongue when looking down, if not ties super tight. Not a big deal but I'm a bit anal so I will probably just color it with a black permanent marker. Overall, this is an excellent pair of boots for the price. If quality doesn't pan out in the long term, I will edit this review. ... show more

They fit like a glove! I have owned a similar pair in a different colour and after three years of moderate use, I had to purchase another! The only thing is that after years of usage, it becomes less waterproof and a little bit of water could get inside, only after stepping in a deep puddle though, not during rain. I suppose resealing them would fix the problem but why not own another pair right? I still highly recommend them. (Better get half a size bigger if you plan to use thick socks like I do) ... show more

Update...10/16/22 tested them on my first ever hike in Acadia National Park...they were comfortable the entire day (8+ hrs) and even helped me keep traction during a small tumble. Definitely recommend....will update if needed as I've only had them for about a month Found these shoes at Dick's Sporting goods for $25.00 more; tried on there first for fit. I purchased size 6.5 wearing with some hiking socks. I've been wearing for a few days now to break them in before a hiking trip and it's going well. These shoes have been a really good purchase for me. They fit and they are comfortable. They are a bit stiff when I first put them on, then once they warm up they are pliable and very comfortable. The soles are stiff enough to handle rocky trails but are not too stiff to walk on the sidewalk. Great purchase. I'd buy them again if needed. ... show more

These boots fit comfortably. I did not have to break them in. I did "light" hiking in them over several days and they worked fine. I did not wade through water but did hike in rain and my feet stay cozy and dry. I found them to be a low cost option for the nonserious hiker or tourist.
