Perfect for amusement parks

I ordered these Columbia Ridge Shorts a few months ago but I live in the NE and the weather hasn’t been cooperating. Finally got to wear them to a theme park. These shorts are perfect for this type of activity. They are breathable, lightweight, fit TTS, and have pockets. They didn’t chafe, held their shape and were very comfortable. I’m sure when it gets hotter outside these will be my go to shorts for amusement parks. I washed them and hung to dry with no issues. Still look as fresh as new. The color is a basic khaki color and is bright. The quality of the fabric is vey good. These Colombia shorts are a win. Don’t hesitate buying these.

Wish I would've got the XS, but I still love them.

These shorts are very cute. I do wish I had ordered an XS instead of the small. The small technically fits, but it runs a bit big on me and almost looks slightly baggy. They’re still comfortable, but I think I would have preferred a more fitted look. I wear these mostly on the golf course, but they’re versatile enough to work for a variety of activities. We live in Texas, so anything that can survive the heat and not immediately show sweat stains is a huge plus. I like the length, fabric, and overall fit. I may actually end up buying another pair in an XS because I do really like them overall. My advice would be not to size up, and if you’re between sizes, I’d lean more toward sizing down.

Favors right handed people

This is an excellent cut and quality of shorts with pocket designs like I’ve never seen before. I love the flat front design because it does not add bulk to my hips. On the back is a curving seam across the top of the butt, and only the right side of this seam has a velcro pocket. It is perfectly sewn into the seam, so it almost doesn’t look like there is a pocket there. On the front are your usual open side pockets, but on the right side is also a second hidden zipper pocket sewn into the side seam. Both pockets are made of translucent micro mesh fabric. There is also an elastic loop hanging off the back right hip. I’m not really sure what this is for, but I guess you could hang sunglasses or anything from it. I think it is a bit weird the 3 pieces of extra functionality are only on the right side of the shorts instead of both sides for left handed people to use too! I used their size measurement chart, which had me order a size larger than my usual, and they are a bit too big on me so the elastic is not really even stretched. I wish I had ordered my usual size because then the elastic could have held them securely on me.

Looks Good, Feels Great, Material that Lasts

I ordered these Columbia Shale Ridge Shorts as a gift, but didn’t guess the correct size, so I’m keeping them for myself. Wow! These are the most comfortable pair of shorts I’ve ever worn. There are three small, soft tags inside at the waist and back. The straight, gapless stitching is what you would expect from Columbia. The 90% nylon, 10% elastane shell fabric is slightly stretchy, light and cool, and moves with me whether I’m gardening, walking my dog, or playing with my grandson on the beach. I’m no skinny lady, yet these shorts are flattering, even in mid-winter when my legs haven’t seen sun for 12 weeks. And the partial elastic waist and stretchy fabric is forgiving to minor weight gain, but stretch back nicely when scale rolls back in spring. The pockets are a big plus, especially the one with a zipper, so I won’t lose my car fob, id and ATM card. These aren’t just sportswear. They look nice when meeting friends for lunch, or for shopping in town. The 4” inseam is not too short. While they cost more initially, they’re a long term value because this material will outlast everything else in your drawer, while continuing to look and feel great. To maintain the elasticity and prevent damage to the nylon-elastane fibers, wash the shorts in cold water and air dry or tumble dry on low. These accidental shorts may be the best order I’ve made this year! If you’re looking for some look good, feel great, top quality shorts that will last, choose these Columbia Shale Ridge Shorts before word gets out and they’re all gone.

These shirts are perfect.

I am in love with these shorts. The cut is wonderfully flattering and oh, so comfortable! The inseam is short enough that you get full freedom of movement. But not so short that they feel revealing. I think the length will work for most people. The fabric is substantial and yet it is not too stiff. It gives just enough to let you move with ease. And it feels like it will stand up to just about any activity you are into. And the pockets are real pockets! The rear pocket is deep and wide enough to hold my cell and the velcro tab keeps it snug. The front pockets are deep enough to hold some basic items like lip balm or a flashlight. Maybe even a small dog leash and a few dog treats. And the forth pocket has a zipper! It will keep your keys, I.D. and money secure so you can hike or climb without worrying. Like I said, I am in love with these shorts!

Good for casual wear and outdoor activities, but seam across the back isn't flattering

I ordered the Columbia Women's Shale Ridge Shorts in size Medium in the Ancient Fossil color. I wanted something versatile for casual wear, throwing over my bathing suit bottoms while paddleboarding, and for hiking. They fit true to the size chart, so order according to the measurements listed for the hip area. The elastic section in the back waistband makes the fit forgiving around the waist, so if you’re like me and have gained some holiday weight, it’ll give you an extra inch or 2 there above the measurements listed in the size chart. With the elastic, they'll still work nicely as I ease back into shape and loose a few inches off of my waist. The lightweight material feels comfortable against my skin, doesn’t chafe in between my legs, doesn't feel hot, and dries super quickly if they get wet. What I like most is that they don't look like hiking shorts. I can pair them with a regular summer top for errands or hanging out, and they look perfectly normal. The color matches the photos exactly, a light khaki that works for both casual and outdoor stuff. Stitching looks solid and even all around. The material is mostly nylon but has a subtle texture that makes it look more like cotton than typical workout gear. There are two front pockets, plus a back one with a Velcro closure to keep things secure. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the seam across the back. It's sewn in an upside-down U shape that isn't the most flattering from behind and can make things look a bit pulled down. Luckily, it's placed pretty high, so it disappears completely if I wear my shirt untucked. Everything else about the shorts looks flattering. Overall, I think these are going to be great for a bunch of different summer activities.

These are outstanding! They're extremely comfortable. They have pockets that work well. They're very breathable. I think the length is perfect, but they are a little on the short side. So if you want more coverage, get a longer pair of shorts. I think the color is great. The stretchiness makes them even more comfortable. And they are super flattering because they fit great! Like all Columbia products I've ever had, these are top-notch.
