Thanks to Try Before You Buy, I tried six hiking shoes/boots that I didn't have to purchase and return separately. Most of the Columbias fit lengthwise at a size 8 with enough toe room, but they were either too narrow or uncomfortable in the ankle. I ordered these in an 8.5, half size larger than regular shoes, and they are perfect! They felt great right away with little or no break in time. I bought these for two reasons, mainly because I live in a small town in euro,lots of slippery cobble walks. And because we went to Iceland for Easter break. After reading the reviews I was hoping these would do better than my last pair of Merrils. Zero grip on the cobbles, I even slipped, fell and still dealing with injury to my shoulder. These are amazing, the grip is fantastic. I'm walking all over town and not even worried about falling. They were great in Iceland as well, it rained all week. My feet stayed dry ( I did spray an extra protected layer on them) Walked across the rocky terrain, sand, no snow though. Never slipped once even though the ground, pavement was wet the whole time. Love the color and style. I usually wear 6.5, but I bought size 7 and 7.5 and both were too tight, and I bought size 8, the instep is comfortable but too long. Fortunately, Amazon returns are very good, and I am considering returning it.

I bought this pair but there was some problem with the shipping, so they refunded me very quickly. I bought again and really love it. I used them to hike Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon and Sedona, really really sturdy and convenient. They are also water proof.
