  • Good For a Muddy Hike
Size: 12 Color: Alpine Tundra/Grey Green
These boots are heavy duty and built to take on the mud during a rainy hike. They are water resistant inside and out. They're comfortable for such a hike, though they wouldn't be my go-to hiking boots. Not going to lie, they're pretty ugly. Luckily, I'm not wearing them for fashion, so this isn't an issue. Others have mentioned sizing being an issue, but that was not my experience. I ordered a 12, and I got a 12 that feels exactly like a 12. Sizing was right on. ... show more

  • Lots to recommend them, with a couple iffy details
Size: 10 Color: Alpine Tundra/Grey Green
To be upfront, I don't wear very much footwear in this category. I live in a city and don't get out of it much. That said, the city does get all kinds of weather and floating muck is a big concern on rainy days. Winter can also bring some nasty patches of filthy snow. I've tended to rely on weatherproof hiking boots in the past, but having a water-impermeable, Chelsea-style slip-on option made by a brand with a decent reputation seemed like an option worth trying. Overally, I'm happy with a few things about these boots. 1. True to size: I generally wear a size 10, sometimes 10.5 depending on brand, and I found the 10 I ordered to be a great fit. There's a little room for flexibility in socks/layering, but even with thin socks, I don't feel unsteady on my feet. 2. Easy on and off: Since this is molded material, not leather that will give over time, I was glad to find out that getting in and out of these has just enough resistance to make you feel confident walking, but an overall ease that will help in the entryway. 3. Sturdy tread: I can't say how the tread will wear over time, but it balances solidity and support pretty well. I feel confident in my step, but there's some give for comfort. The knock on these? Leaving style completely out of the equation, I have a little worry about the visible adhesive around the seams, particularly where upper and sole meet. I also wonder how the left-side/right-side halves were joined. Stiching of the pull-on tabs shows a lack of precision and some loose bits around the edges. In the price range, this is normal enough. These are likely to be found in discount retail shoe sections, I'm guessing, so I shouldn't expect high-end outdoor gear finishes. But the price isn't a runaway steal, so I'm just hoping that these details turn out to be aesthetic concerns, not visions of a sole separation to come. Fingers crossed for a longish life of non-daily use! ... show more

  • Good quality but BURNING HOT and SWEATY!
Size: 8 Color: Alpine Tundra/Grey Green
I'm a boot guy. Over the last 15 years, I've worn work or hiking boots more than any other footwear. Over the years, friends have commented how they would wear boots but their feet sweat too much. I've never had that issue. So, I've thought that I must not have "sweaty feet". These boots made my feet sweat like a Finnish sauna! I've always worn socks, but nothing seems to help. They are great for like 15-20 minutes and then I've got to take them off and let my feet dry out. These could be good for running out to do chores or get the mail. Otherwise I feel their use-case is VERY narrow. They are good quality. They are comfortable enough for the above use case. They have aggressive tread that will be great in slippery conditions. I just can't recommend them based on my own testing. I love when companies try something different. ... show more

  • Seem Like Great Boots, But Had to Return Due to Sizing Issue
Size: 13 Color: Black/City Grey
I was really looking forward to getting these Mudranger boots for the upcoming hiking season. Taking them out of the box, they look and feel fantastic. The build quality seems excellent, with sturdy-looking soles and clean stitching, which is what I expect from Columbia. The Black and City Grey color scheme looks even better in person than in the photos, and the boots feel surprisingly lightweight for how robust they appear to be. On first impression, they seem like a high-quality product. Unfortunately, I have to give a neutral rating and return them because the size I received is incorrect. I'm honestly not sure if I accidentally selected the wrong size during checkout or if the wrong pair was shipped to me, but either way, they are unwearable as they are. It's a real shame because the boots themselves seem to be top-notch. I can't comment on their comfort or performance on the trail since I can't wear them, but based on the initial impression, I would have been very happy with them if they were the correct size. ... show more

  • Comfort & Support
Size: 10 Color: Alpine Tundra/Grey Green
I had originally purchased these just to wear out back in the yard with the mud. However, they are so comfortable that I want to wear them all the time. These are listed as hiking boots and I could definitely see myself hiking in them all day. They have really great, thick tread and are waterproof. They are easy to clean and at that price, they are a great deal! These would be great on a hunting or fishing trip as well. Really great quality. ... show more

  • Too big, not quite true to size but very comfortable!
Size: 12 Color: Alpine Tundra/Grey Green
Unfortunately, these run pretty big. I’d say easily a half size, possibly more larger. As a result they don’t really fit properly since I always order a half size larger as it is, simply for comfort. I have several other pair of Columbia footwear and have never had a problem with sizing before these. While I wore these on a 2 mile hike on my property to test them out, it was a bit challenging. I will continue to wear them; I’m trying to find some really thick insoles to put in them to help make them fit better. Aside from the fit, I absolutely love them. First, slipping them on and off is super easy. I hate struggling to get out of a pear of shoes once they’re mudddy; it’s impossible to not make a mess. They also appear as though they would be incredibly durable, they’re very similar to a pair of Croks. Clean up is super easy, just wipe them down with a wet cloth or hose them off. While I can’t say if they’d be warm in cooler weather (there’s no insulation inside), my pair has plenty of extra space for really thick socks. As for the price, it seems like a relatively fair price to me. All in all, I like them a lot, I just wish the sizing was more accurate. ... show more
