Description

• The official Colorado Trail guide for thru-hikers, day hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians • Detailed information for the entire Colorado Trail, including five new chapters for the 80-mile Collegiate West trail addition • Updated color maps with trail and milepoint overlays The Colorado Trail is considered by many to be the most beautiful “long trail” in the world. Spanning 486 miles from the Denver suburbs to Durango, the trail passes through six national forests and six wilderness areas, traverses five major river systems, and crosses eight mountain ranges. The ninth edition of The Colorado Trail has all the information a day hiker, thru-hiker, mountain biker, or equestrian needs to plan and complete a trip on the trail. New to this edition are five chapters on the 80-mile Collegiate West trail addition. Maps and written descriptions for all twenty-eight segments of the Colorado Trail have also been updated throughout the guide. Each chapter provides essential logistical information for Colorado Trail hikers: trailhead directions; road access points; detailed trail descriptions including distance and elevation gain; color maps and elevation profiles; and information on water sources, campsite locations, and resupply towns. Additional town maps and mountain bike detour maps (around Wilderness Areas) have been included throughout the book. An extensive introduction includes information on planning, supplying, safety, equipment, navigation, mountain biking, horseback riding, regulations, and backcountry ethics―plus chapters on the heritage of The Colorado Trail, natural history, and geology. At the back of the book you will find useful contact information and an index. Read more

  • Colorado Trail info: A Great start
Planning a partial bikepack trip on the CT, fron Denver to Copper Mtn, about 150 miles or so. The Guidebook provides very good info as a starting point to learn specifics about the CT, whether hiking or biking. Quickly followed with a purchase of the Data Book, with similar info, but smaller & lighter. Shout Out to Ryan Van Duzer & Dave Bauman (via YouTube channels) for their info & expertise for bike experience on the CT. The Guide Book was an Excellent investment!!!! ... show more

  • User Friendly, perfect information for section or thru hiker!
Really great book, is a great second to the Hiker bible of AWALL for the AT in matters of user friendly-ness. Tear out maps, great descriptions concerning water, campsites, weather, possible snow conditions, gear lists, trailheads, resupply towns, road crossings, and doesn't drag on about things you don't care about! HIKERS HIKE. ... show more

  • Very useful
Very helpful and detailed! I’m planning a trip for section 6 and this gave me everything I needed from what to expect on trail to travel logistics. Plenty of information I couldn’t find online.

  • Not required but definitely a “nice to have” on the trail.
I got the kindle edition and had it on my recent CT hike. You don’t need this book. The data book gives you all the info you need. But , it was kinda a “nice to have”. It’s overly flowery language could be a little over the top but it’s little nuggets of info of the trail could be informative as you passed through. (I also got a little annoyed by its descriptions of “destructive” fires. Over the top and not super accurate.) I didn’t need it, but it’s detailed directions to trailheads is likely useful too. I would have also benefited from its various maps and charts but never could figure out how to magnify them on my kindle app so they all remained too frustratingly small to be of much use. ... show more

  • The Colorado Trail Bible!
If you plan to spend any length of time on the Colorado trail, THIS is the guide for you. A little heavy to bring this big book along for a thru-hike/bike, but great for trip planning or getting info on each section for day hikes. Having said that, get the data book and/or phone app for when you're on the trail. Happy trails! ... show more

Great guide! I bought this to plan our family bike trip for the first seven segments. Since there are kids involved, I am want to know as much as I can to avoid "surprises". I have the app as well, definetely worth the money!!

  • I'm a Colorado Trail Hiker and I love this book!
Love this book. If you plan to hike the CT, buy this book, and pick up a map, too. You'll want to know the details. Combined with the Databook, these two books are fabulous references.
