  • Great tent! Held up well in storms
The media could not be loaded. We have used this tent for about 14 nights over 3 different trips and we have been very happy with it. There is plenty of room for our family to spread out alittle. Its quick to assemble and take down. We have been through 2 big thunderstorms with up to 30 mph winds and it held up great. ( the video shows the tent in the rain) Make sure you have it tied down well. Also if its raining make sure all 3 zippers on the front are closed completely, we left it open about a inch and got a little rain. ... show more

  • Large tent
It seems like a very well-made tent. We did a practice run for setting it up and are eager to use it.

  • Product was torn .
Upon practice set up a hole was spotted in the roof. Returning and ordering another one . Took 15 min to set up with 2 people. Color coded were off. Green goes to yellow. Review will follow upon new one arriving and practice set up . Then when product actually used.

  • Beast of a tent in mostly cool ways.
This thing is a beast. I did put it up by myself, but I did not enjoy that. I wouldn't say the instructions were easy to understand, so I figured it out by trial and error. The poles are all color-coded, so it wasn't hard to know where they go. However, you just want to do it in the right order. I suggest laying it flat, putting the long poles through there sleeves and then the grey side-to-side pole through its sleeve. Then put the corner and side bottom poles in, and then start standing it up as you can, connecting the top poles to the lower poles. I really like that it has a tub floor. I'm never interested in tents without that. I also like that this one has privacy with windows you can open. I'm not a big fan of the tents that have no privacy unless you fully enclose it with a rainfly. The ceiling is really cool. The tent is super tall and roomy. I like having the front screen room to keep shoes and keep the inside of the tent cleaner. I'm also glad Coleman has been including must sturdier tent stakes than they used to. Thankfully, somehow, I was able to roll it back up and get it into the carrying bag on the first try. The rainfly isn't full coverage, so I wouldn't depend on this for super windy, downpour rainstorms. P.S. A 12-person is probably good for 6-8 people. Tent numbers are always if you were laying side by side crammed together. ... show more

  • Big, great vestibule, a few issues
I slept in this tent last night with my family. Overall impressions are good, but I ran into a few problems. Setup was easier than expected. The directions kind of suck, and they say you should have 2 people for setup. Two people are not necessary. Here are my directions: lay out the tent, install the 3 poles for the main roof, install the 6 wall poles for the main tent area. Then install the red vestibule roof pole and the 2 vestibule wall poles. Spread out the floor, stake it all down. Easy. The rain fly is self explanatory. The main area of the tent is spacious and has 5 large mesh windows and mesh on the ceiling. The vestibule is generous too and is properly divided from the main area so that debris on the vestibule floor can't easily make its way into the main area. There is an air vent at the back that can be kept open with stakes or closed with zippers, and there's an entry for an electrical cord if that's your thing. With all the windows open there's a ton of air flow. There's a bit of included storage, a pair of somewhat small pockets with four sections each, and a corner pocket by the inner door. There are small mounting points for lights at the top center and the top corners. Having the vestibule is a real game changer. None of my older tents have one, at least not one with a floor as well. Having a convenient place to leave things like shoes, stuff sacks, and the tent bag itself is really nice. You can leave the vestibule unzipped for easy access when you're in camp, or if it's really buggy you can keep both closed and treat the vestibule like a bug airlock! It's a nice feature. The fly design, on the other hand, could be better. It doesn't overhang the windows. If there's a chance of rain, and you want to make sure your tent stays dry, you're gonna need to close all those big windows and give up most of your airflow. You could also get creative and pitch a big tarp over some or all of the tent to protect the windows from rain, but you shouldn't have to. I get it, big tents like this are for families with kids and we're usually fair weather campers, but you can't count on the weather forecast always being right. I'd prefer a real fly that protects from rain without negating all of your mesh. The only other issues I had are minor quality issues. Overall quality is very good, smooth zippers and good stitching everywhere, but I feel let down in two places: one of the short nylon straps used to hold a stake was not attached to itself properly and fell off almost immediately. I can fix that, not a big deal. The other problem is worse: some of my poles seem to have rust inside. I noticed reddish brown powder coming out of some of the poles the first time I took them out. Looking inside with a flashlight, there's not a lot but it's definitely rust. For a $500 tent, that does not impress me at all, but poles can be replaced if the rust turns out to be a real issue. Part of me thinks that giant tents like this are a waste, and you'd be better off with two six-person Coleman Evanston tents for considerably less money. I do get the appeal of being all together if you have a big family, especially with young kids. Overall, if you need a big heavy tent that packs down relatively small (for what it is), isn't hard to set up, and you avoid camping in the rain, this is a pretty nice option. ... show more
